After years of waiting, the massive multiplayer game allowing you to play in a persistent universe of Trek’s 25th century is online, and according to Cryptic they have already logged in over 1 million registered accounts at the official websites. STO is also the top selling PC game Amazon. Cryptic has also added the first two purchasable in game items: playable Starfleet Klingons and Ferengi. The world is getting ready for the official release of Star Trek Online tomorrow. But Cryptic are already working on what is going to come next (and dealing with issues from their ‘head start’). Star Trek Online has its official launch on Tuesday February 2nd, however the ‘head start’ for the game went live just minutes ago. That means that anyone who pre-ordered the game can start playing today. To help get you started, we are posting a number of tutorial videos made by our friends at the STOked podcast.

The extended open beta for Star Trek Online ended Tuesday, but instead of just shutting it down, Cryptic made an event out of it. Early in the day they made an announcement of an end of beta event, then in the final moments for players found themselves facing a massive invasion of the Federation by the Klingons, and then the Borg. The open beta test for Star Trek online has proven very popular and Cryptic have now extended it one more day, so those participating can continue until tomorrow. More details below, plus a new Klingons video and a profile of a new ship: The Vigilant, a Defiant for the 25th century.

Star Trek Online launches on February 2nd. In the game you choose to play as part of Sarfleet or in the Klingon Empire, but whichever side you chose you will eventually run into some Cardassians. The official launch of Star Trek Online is less than two weeks away and to help promote the game Atari has teamed up with Del Taco who are offering collector cups, free access and an in-game bonus. Last week Star Trek Online started its expansive open beta test and according to a new report on their site the volume has ‘exceeded the wildest expectations’. In the upcoming MMORPG "Star Trek Online" players don’t go on missions or quests, they partake in ‘episodes’, each of which is designed to feel like an episode from a Trek TV show. Today Atari has released a new video preview, which shows what this episodic gameplay will feel like. Catch that below, plus some more details on Klingon gameplay in STO.

The MMORPG Star Trek Online, which is to be released on February 2nd, will allow players to play characters in one of two factions, The Federation or the Klingon Empire. Most of the information released to date has focused on the Federation gameplay, but today Atari released the first details on the Klingon experience. Atari also released a number of new Klingon images from the game.
