Later this month The Art Directors Guild will be honoring the designers of the final frontier at their "Star Trek: 45: Years of Designing the Future" event in Hollywood. On hand will be veterans of Trek design including Herman Zimmerman as well as Star Trek 2009’s Scott Chambliss. They will be showing clips as well as the Director’s Edition of ST: The Motion Picture. Our friend Daren Dochterman will be moderating the panel.
The big event for Star Trek books this Fall will finally delve into a major point in Federation history. The trade paperback of Michael A. Martin’s "Star Trek: Enterprise – The Romulan War: Beneath The Raptor’s Wing" comes out in October and TrekMovie has an exclusive excerpt below.
In November JJ Abrams new Star Trek movie comes out on DVD and Blu-ray, but there will also be additional special editions. A round of layoffs this week at Simon and Schuster resulted in the departure of Star Trek books editor Margaret Clark. The move was a part of a workforce reduction by the publisher, driven by lagging profits in the publishing industry. Even though this is the second layoff of a Star Trek editor in the last year, Simon & Schuster says they are committed to Star Trek going forward. This Fall continues to shape up to be huge with regards to Star Trek on home video with a ton of releases already announced and Paramount and CBS just added two new ‘Best of’ DVDs (TOS & TNG). This week the Library Computer reviews the second Deep Space Nine novel in a row from Pocket Books, Una McCormack’s “The Never Ending Sacrifice”. This isn’t the first Star Trek novel to find a genesis in an episode of one of the series, but it certainly isn’t like any Star Trek novel that has ever come before.
IDW, the publishers of Star Trek comics, are headed back the the 24th century with a new Next Generation mini-series starting in November. "Star Trek: Ghosts" will be set during the run TNG and brings a new writer and artist. We have details on that below, along with all the other details for IDW’s Star Trek plans for November.
Celebrities, including many Trek celebrities, have got involved with many causes over the years, including getting behind saving endangered species. This week Cryptic went all the way to Germany to show off their upcoming MMORPG, Star Trek Online. While there they showed off a promotional video of the game showing space and ground footage. Video shot off screen from that is now online, check it out below. Interestingly. the famed (and legally controversial) Guardian of Forever is featured in the video.
Scott and David Tipton, assisted by David Messina and Federica Manfredi, continue their probe of Spock’s past this week, in IDW’s second issue of "Star Trek: Spock – Reflections." The comic arrives in stores Wednesday and TrekMovie has an early review (below).

This Fall is going to be big for Star Trek on home video. We had announced some box art previously, but we now have art for the whole collection, including and exclusive look at the TOS Season 2 on Blu-ray set. We also have art for the new ‘even numbered’ individual movies releases on Blu-ray and DVD.
Star Trek Magazine #20 is just arriving on newstands as a focus on the Borg. STM have provided TrekMovie with excerpts of their interview with the Borg Queen (Alice Krige) and an article on the history of the Borg. In August "DS9: Never Ending Sacrifice," written by Una McCormack, tells the story of the Cardassian Empire in the post Dominion War period.
