The fourth revision of the Star Trek Encyclopedia written by the husband/wife duo Mike and Denise Okuda, is a massive two-volume hardcover edition. This latest revision includes information up to Star Trek: Into Darkness, and took several years to compile. Read on for our interview with the Trekspert couple.


Catching Up with Star Trek Author Paul Ruditis

Paul Ruditis is becoming a go-to name in the world of Star Trek nonfiction, with The Star Trek Book, the Star Trek Visual Dictionary, and the Star Trek: Voyager Companion to his credit. TrekMovie caught up with Ruditis at Mission: New York to talk about his previous work, what he has coming up, and the challenges of writing guide books for the 50-year old franchise.


Michael Piller’s Book Recounting Insurrection’s Production Now on Sale

Michael Piller, known to Trek for his work on The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager, authored a ‘textbook’ on screenwriting, based on the production of the feature film Star Trek: Insurrection. That book was never published and thought to be lost to time after Piller’s passing. Now for the first time ever, Piller’s Fade In is officially available in published form at michaelpiller.net.

Longtime Trek Author and Publicist Terry Erdmann Recognizes His 27-Year-Old Work in “Star Trek Beyond”

Briefly, near the end of Star Trek Beyond, there is a touching final moment that occurs in remembrance of Leonard Nimoy’s 47-year portrayal of Spock. It is a moment that was orchestrated 27 years earlier by the unit publicist on Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Terry Erdmann.





TrekMovie Interview: David Mack

Prolific would be an understatement when describing author David Mack’s contribution to the Star Trek legacy. Mack has written 26 novels, 13 novellas and four comic books set in The Final Frontier, with his latest release, Star Trek Legacies, Book 2: Best Defense, as part of Pocket Books “Special 50th Anniversary Trilogy”. While most of the author’s Star Trek work has come over the last 15 years, his writing roots inspired by Gene Roddenberry’s vision of the future stretches back much further, with writing credits on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episodes “It’s Only a Paper Moon” and “Starship Down”. Rich Schepis spoke with the author about his Star Trek fandom, his favorite novel and the franchise’s enduring legacy.

Winners Announced for ‘Star Trek: Strange New Worlds’ Writing Contest

CBS have announced the winners of the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds writing contest. The 10 Grand Prize winners, chosen from hundreds of submissions, will each receive a $1000 prize, and their stories will be included in the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds 2016 Edition Anthology, to be published in digital first format this year. The two First Prize winners will each receive a free publishing package from Archway Publishing valued at approximately $5,000 to publish a book on a subject other than Star Trek.

In celebration of Star Trek’s 50th anniversary in 2016, CBS has brought back the popular Star Trek: Strange New Worlds fan fiction writing contest, which gives amateur authors the chance to get their stories in an official Star Trek anthology book published by Simon & Schuster.
