Today Airlock Alpha (formerly SyFyPortal) announced the nominees for their annual ‘Portal Awards’, covering all aspects of the world of genre entertainment. The new Star Trek movie received a number of nominations, as did other aspects of Star Trek (including TrekMovie.com itself). Details on that below, plus another site has a profile of TrekMovie.com.
If you want to relive the Star Trek movie again and also get some more insights into the characters and events of the film, you can ‘listen’ to the movie via the audio book of the Alan Dean Foster adaptation. Today we have a clip from the audio book to sample it, and we are also giving away free copies, including one signed by the narrator, Zachary Quinto.
The Star Trek movie has opened in most markets around the world, but there are a handful left, including Mexico this weekend. To promote the Mexican premiere JJ Abrams went down to Mexico City with Zachary Quinto, Roberto Orci and Zoe Saldana. GoAnimate.com, the site that lets you make your own animations, today announced that it has expanded its roster of official Star Trek characters to include Nurse Chapel, Gorn, Mara, and two Klingon crewmen. You knew this was coming. Following on from our previous ‘new view’ of the original Comic Con 2008 Star Trek teaser posters, TrekMovie now brings you a ‘decolorized’ version of the four new posters which were revealed at Official Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas. The Creation official Star Trek Convention at the Las Vegas Hilton kicks off this morning and TrekMovie.com is on the scene and ready to go. This week we will be bringing you wall to wall coverage of the event and beyond with multiple reporters on the scene. See below for some of the highlights we can expect to be reporting on. For this week, what happens in Vegas will definitely not be staying in Vegas.
The big Star Trek event for Comic Con 2008 was the brand new poster (or actually 4 posters) which revealed four cast images for the first time. The poster was well received, but it was also highly stylized, saturating the Trek crew with colors from the traditional TOS uniforms (gold, red and blue). So TrekMovie decided it would be interesting to ‘reverse engineer’ the actual images from the poster as they might appear in the movie.
On Thursday of this week tens of thousands will descend on San Diego California for the ultimate nerd-gasm that is Comic Con. Although there is no big panel for the new Star Trek film, TrekMovie is still going to report on all the other Trek happenings at the Paramount booth and with the other Trek licensee booths, Trek panels and with the various Trek celebrities who will be there. Today we have a full Trekkie guide to Comic Con 2008.
On August 6th Creation’s official Star Trek convention kicks off at the Las Vegas Hilton for five days of Trek craziness with 15,000 Trek fans being entertained with events and dozens of Trek stars including the Spocks, Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy. The TrekMovie.com and io9 ‘Make a Fake’ Contest is now over. We have received a number of entries, some of which were attempts at fooling Vreenak, and others were just a bit of fun foolishness. Although fakes, it is likely some of the entries could have spurred some internet rumors if they weren’t labeled as such. See below for all of the entries and the winner.
Last weekend the latest in the line of leaked Star Trek movie footage hoaxes showed up at io9, bringing out Senator Vreenak once again to pass judgment. The folks at io9 decided to turn this lemon into lemonade and due to the lack of real footage, start a contest for fake footage. They have asked TrekMovie.com to joined in as well. So are you a faker?
