Season 6 is arguably the best season of TNG. The writers that we associate with TNG’s better episodes were all present, the production staff had TNG down cold, the visual effects were at their peak technologically, and the episodes covered a diverse group of subjects and genres. Read on to see how the season looks re-mastered and details of the treasure trove of deleted scenes the CBS Digital team were able to find, available June 24th in North America.
The Trek world has been abuzz since the announcement that Bob Orci will officially take over the director’s seat for the next Star Trek film. TrekMovie sat down with Mike and Denise Okuda in an exclusive interview covering Trek’s past, present, and future. The Okudas have been involved with Trek in one way or another as early as The Motion Picture with Mike having worked on every live action Star Trek production since The Voyage Home, along with the current project of remastering Star Trek: The Next Generation in HD for Blu-ray. Suffice to say that this pair has a unique perspective on where Trek has been and where it is (or should be) going. Hit the jump for more.
Along with the boxed set of Season 6, the single disc release of ”Chain of Command”, the critically acclaimed two-part episode that deals with torture, prisoner’s rights, and handling the change of leadership under a new commanding officer, will also be available to purchase on June 24 in the USA. As with other single-disc releases, both parts have been edited together to make one 90-minute TV movie.
TrekCore has found the trailers for the Season 6 release of Star Trek: The Next Generation on Blu-ray and the single-disc release that accompanies it, “Chain of Command”, due out in June. Season 6 also gives us a glimpse at Deep Space 9 in HD thanks to being shown in the episode “Birthright”. Check ’em out after the break.
Season 5 continues the well oiled machine that we knew as TNG. Season 5 is one of the best seasons of TNG. Of course Season 5 includes “The Inner Light” and other excellent episodes such as “Power Play,” “I,Borg” and “Cause and Effect.” Read on to see how the season looks re-mastered and details of the generally excellent new bonus features, available November 19th in North America.
Along with the boxed set of Season 5, the single disc release of ”Unification”, the special 25th anniversary celebration of the two generations meeting, will also be available to purchase on November 19 in the USA. As with other single-disc releases, both parts have been edited together to make one 90-minute TV movie.
There are now a few more details of the Season 5 and Unification single-disc Blu-ray releases thanks to a new press release from CBS Home Entertainment today. Season 5’s special features include a new season 5 documentary titled “Requiem: A Remembrance of Star Trek: The Next Generation.” This two-part documentary explores the making of the series’ fifth season and focuses on the effect the passing of creator Gene Roddenberry on the show. Also exciting for fans of TNG’s music is the newest roundtable discussion documentary: “In Conversation: The Music of Star Trek: The Next Generation” which features TNG composers Ron Jones, Dennis McCarthy and Jay Chattaway. Both are due out in the US next month, November 19th to be exact. See the full details after the break.
While we expected Star Trek: The Next Generation Season 5 to be the next up on the Blu-ray slate, we weren’t sure if CBS would do a single-disc release this time, since the Season 5/6 cliffhanger of “Time’s Arrow” is hardly a fan favorite. The most logical choice, that many had been speculating, is the two-part 25th anniversary celebration, “Unification”, featuring the return of original Trek legend Leonard Nimoy and his character Spock. We don’t have full details yet, but there is new partial information about both releases. Both are expected to be available on November 19th for the US and Canada. UPDATE Sept. 9 – CBS has posted a video trailer for Unification
Season 4 is the start of the well oiled machine that we knew as TNG, coming off the success of Season 3 and the attention of using the cliffhanger format for “The Best of Both Worlds”, Season 4 is the first season to have all of the production staff that would be there through the series end. Season 4 contains a lot of fan favorites such as Family, Brothers, Data’s Day, The Wounded, The Drumhead, Qpid, and Redemption. Read on to see how the season looks remastered and details of the new bonus features.
Along with the boxed set of Season 4, the single disc release of the two-part cliffhanger “Redemption” is also available starting today in the US. Like The Best of Both Worlds that was released with Season 3, both parts have been edited together to make one 90-minute TV movie.
