Last week at the Epix outdoor screening of The Captains in Los Angeles I had a chance to talk briefly to William Shatner about that Star Trek 2009 scene written for (but never shown to) him. Four Star Trek captains will be at San Diego Comic Con 2011 with Patrick Stewart and Scott Bakula now confirmed for separate events (in addition to the previously announced The Captains panel with William Shatner & Avery Brooks). And in the week following SDCC William Shatner is hosting outdoor screenings of The Captains in New York and LA, and he and Epix are giving out prizes for fans who show up in costume.

It looks like The Captains may not be William Shatners "final farewell" to Star Trek. Today Star Trek’s original Kirk returned to his alma mater McGill University in Montreal, Canada to receive an honorary doctorate and to deliver the convocation address where he advised the new graduates to take risks and not be afraid of of making an ass" of themselves, noting it had worked for him.
