Michael Rosenbaum returning to play Lex Luthor for Smallville series finale

After months of speculation, Michael Rosenbaum has announced that he will return for the two-hour series finale of "Smallville" to reprise his role as Lex Luthor:

“I’m delighted to return for the series finale,” Rosenbaum tells TVLine exclusively. “I’m simply doing it for all of the fans out there who made Smallville the great success it is. I appreciate all of their passion, their relentlessness, and even their threats. Ha ha.”

The actor continues, “I can’t wait to hug the old crew back in Vancouver one last time and see all of my old friends once again. Oh, and for Lex to become the bad-ass he’s destined to be.”

Executive producers Kelly Souders and Brian Peterson say of Rosenbaum’s encore, “It feels like the stars are aligning, literally. We couldn’t be more excited. And as far as the way he returns… there’ll be no doubt about how Lex becomes the great rival in Clark Kent’s life. He is the villain of the story.”

Adrianne Palicki cast as Wonder Woman in NBC pilot + Casting call leaked

Adrianne Palicki ("Friday Night Lights") has been cast as Wonder Woman / Diana in David E. Kelley’s NBC pilot "Wonder Woman", Variety reports. Here’s the official description courtesy Inside TV | EW:

The series pilot is a reinvention of the iconic DC Comics title in which Wonder Woman — a.k.a. Diana Prince — is a vigilante crime fighter in Los Angeles but also a successful corporate executive and a modern woman trying to balance all of the elements of her extraordinary life. Kelley and Bill D’Elia (Boston Legal, The Practice) are the executive producers. The pilot was written by Kelley and will be directed by Jeffrey Reiner (NBC’s The Event). Wonder Woman is from David E. Kelley Productions and Warner Bros. Television.

Adrianne Palicki – the new Wonder Woman

In other casting news, a casting sheet has been linked online and details the six series regulars (including Wonder Woman/ Diana). Here are the character descriptions [via Blastr]:

[WONDER WOMAN / DIANA THEMYSCIRA / DIANA PRINCE] Female, late 20s to 30s. A kick-ass Superhero / Powerful C.E.O. / A vulnerable woman. Long flowing black hair, blue eyes. Amazon-like, muscular, an Olympian. The charismatic stage presence of a rock star. A crime fighter. Also, a real woman who yearns to live a normal life. She is accessible and appealing to all people, men and women alike…SERIES LEAD. ASP.

[MYNDI MAYER] Female, open ethnicity, 30s. Publicist, Press Secretary and Wonder Woman’s confidant and nurturing best friend. Worldy and edgy. Sexy and persuasive, her appearance is part of her strength. She is beautiful and put together – dressed expensively in the latest fashions, plus she’s got a bit of bite, clever wit and sass. She’s the prodder of Diana’s social life…SERIES REGULAR. ASP.

[ETTA] Female, open ethnicity, 30s. Diana Themyscira’s always cheerful personal assistant. A bit charactery, but real, pretty and effervescent. She is blindly devoted to Diana. She’s her unrelenting cheerleader, with unwavering, unabated support. On the vulnerable side, she sees the humble and sympathetic sides in everyone, including Diana…SERIES REGULAR. ASP.

[CEO HENRY DEMETER] Male, open ethnicity, 40s. Acting CEO of Themyscira Industries. Grounded, intelligent and deeply devoted to Diana. He runs the day to day operations of the company and acts like an Uncle to Diana although he could be a possible love interest down the line…SERIES REGULAR. ASP.

[STEVE TREVOR] Male, open ethnicity, 30s. A leading man Diana can’t look past. Good looking but a real man. An Army vet, he now works in the Justice dept…SERIES REGULAR, ASP.

[ED INDELICATO] Male, late 30s to early 40s. Stoic and tough, he is a liaison to the police department. Devoted and loyal to Diana, he’s blue collar, a no nonsense kind of guy. A chiseled man who subscribes to the old fashion rules of relationships – men don’t talk much. His job comes first and he wouldn’t make room for the possibility that there is potential romantic relationship with Diana…SERIES REGULAR, 10/13.

As previously rumored, McG won’t be directing the pilot, with the network and studio instead settling on Jeffrey Reiner. Filming on the pilot is scheduled to begin on March 15 in Los Angeles, California. The project was recently given a pilot commitment from the network and if it makes it to series could premiere as early as this fall.

Stargate Universe returns to Syfy on March 7, 2011 + Update on future

The 10 remaining episodes of the recently canceled Syfy series "Stargate Universe" are scheduled to begin airing on Monday, March 7 at 10PM. That’s a new night for the series (it originally aired on Tuesday night’s) and ‘SGU’ will now be paired with new episodes of "Being Human". Here’s the March schedule [via GateWorld]:

March 7 – Deliverance
March 14 – Twin Destinies
March 21 – Alliances
March 28 – Hope

Including the scheduled episodes noted above, a total of 10 episodes remain to be aired. Speaking of that cancellation, the powers that be behind the series continue work towards some sort of continuation, but with each passing day it’s looking more and more unlikely. Also, a third season has pretty much been taken off the table. Here’s what executive producer Joseph Mallozzi wrote on his blog:

Still no definite word on the Stargate front. Following a flurry of promising developments, things have gone unbearably quiet. Not a bad sign just… no sign. There’s an anticipation that good news could break any day now – but the longer the wait, the greater the challenge when the time comes. To those holding out hope that this could mean a third season pick-up – alas, this isn’t one of the scenarios in play. Nevertheless, as I said in a previous entry, if and when we finally do get the green light, Brad has some wonderful surprises in store for fans of SGU (as well as fans of the Stargate franchise in general). I’ve got my fingers crossed for all involved, even though it’s looking more and more like I won’t be among them.

After promising start, Fringe is down double-digits on new night

When "Fringe" premiered in its new Friday night time slot the show surprised many by actually increasing its audience from its previous episode. However, recent weeks have seen a decline in audience: going from 4.86M viewers and a 1.9 A18-49 rating for its time slot premiere (episode 3×10 – "The Firefly") to 3.74M and a 1.4 A18-49 rating for episode 3×13 – "Immortality" (-23% / -26%). The low ratings were enough of a concern that star Joshua Jackson has taken notice telling InsideTV | EW that it might be a good time for fans to start a "Save Fringe" campaign:

“I’m a positive person in general, but we really need our Fringe fans to tune in and watch us on Fridays…We did good when we first moved, but last week we did not have a good week, ratings wise. It is going to take the people that like the show to watch the show and start the campaign and show their support if they want to see us stick around for another season.”

"Fringe" is one of the best-performing shows when it comes to DVR viewing, but DVR viewership is not very important for broadcast networks. Networks have also preferred for as many of their viewers as possile to watch their programming live. On the plus side, Friday night’s episode did manage a slight uptick in the ratings. According to preliminary numbers, "6B" drew 4.06M viewers and a 1.5 A18-49 rating which was an increase of 9% among viewers (from 3.74M) and 7% among adults 18-49 (from a 1.4 rating). Moving on, Jackson also teased what’s ahead for his character:

“Apparently I’m gonna be a dad,” he says. “And it is like the most extreme long-distance relationship, which I am pretty good at as it turns out in real life. My baby mama is in another universe. I think he has to find out, but I don’t know exactly how we’re gonna work that out yet. I have not see the finale script yet or anything. The whole other universe thing and the machine and the war of the two worlds is obviously the end of this season. But you would think they can’t just let the baby thing fall away.”

Executive producers Joel Wyman and Jeff Pinkner, meanwhile, spoke with Fringe Television and offered some details for the rest of the season:

The Fringe universe was really turned on its head with this "crisis on parallel Earths" storyline and viewers have been wondering if you were done with doppelgangers. Obviously this week’s episode "Immortality" proves you’re not. But are we just catching up with these characters, or is there a crossover between the two worlds?

Joel: No, we are definitely going to keep it alive. That’s definitely part of our storytelling. You haven’t seen the last of those characters. It’s funny because right away, Jeff and I said, "This is cool. We’re the only show that gets to do two shows about one show." Our goal was to make a mythology over there that was so compelling people wanted to watch that too. We feel we were successful in that regard, so we aren’t in any rush to get rid of them. And it plays a huge part in our unfolding year.

Jeff: Our goal with this series is to start at the tip of the iceberg and see that these universes are much larger. We knew from the beginning Peter was from the other side. We knew we had to earn it. You can’t just dump a concept like that on people. It would just be hard to swallow all in one bite and the more you tease and let the story unfold from the characters’ point of view, the deeper the return in interest. We’ve been planting seeds from the earliest episodes and the network and the studios were initially supportive, but resistant to the idea we were going to spend a lot of time telling stories over there. Now, they’ve come full circle and when they read stories that take place over there, we sold them in the exact way we intended to. Those stories are compelling despite the fact Olivia, Peter, and Walter don’t necessarily appear in them.

For more, including some behind the scenes talk on the shows’ ratings, head on over to Fringe Television to read the rest of the interview. In other news, SpoilerTV reports that episode 3×16 will be called "Os". "Fringe" airs Friday night’s at 9PM on Fox.

Production begins on Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome

Syfy has announced that production on has begun on the two-hour pilot — and potential new series — "Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome" in Vancouver, Canada. The network has also issued a fresh synopsis:

Battlestar Galactica: Blood & Chrome takes place in the 10th year of the first Cylon war. As the battle between humans and their creation, the sentient robotic Cylons, rages across the 12 colonial worlds, a young, talented fighter pilot, William Adama (Luke Pasqualino), finds himself assigned to one of the most powerful Battlestars in the Colonial fleet: the Galactica. Full of ambition and in pursuit of the intense action that the Cylon war promises, Adama quickly find himself at odds with Coker (Ben Cotton), the battle-weary officer to whom he reports. With 47 days left in his tour of duty, Coker desires an end to battle just as much as Adama craves the start of it. Though they clash at first, the two men forge an unlikely bond when a routine mission turns dangerous and becomes a pivotal one for the desperate fleet.

In semi-related news, the MMORPG "Battlestar Galactica Online" has gone live. The game will be exclusively available on Syfy — click here for UK — for its first six weeks. Here’s a little information from the press release (which you can read in full here):

Battlestar Galactica Online is based on the acclaimed Emmy and Peabody Award-winning television series Battlestar Galactica, which aired for four seasons on Syfy. Set during the latter part of the show’s second season, the game takes the form of a previously "untold chapter," in which both the Colonial and Cylon fleets are stranded in an uncharted area of space. Heavily damaged and low on critical supplies, both fleets must fight for control of the resources in the nearby star systems as the Colonials desperately search for a way to escape before the Cylons regain enough strength to destroy them once and for all.

The Walking Dead to get writing staff for season two

A few months ago AMC and "The Walking Dead" creator/executive producer/director Frank Darabont let go the writing staff of the hit series. There were rumors at the time that Darabont was considering having no writing staff for the second season. That’s not going to happen. Deadline is reporting that Glen Mazzara has joined the show as an executive producer and No. 2 to Darabont and is currently in the process of "putting together a staff of about five writers". Mazzara penned "Wildfire", the fifth episode of "The Walking Dead’s" first season.

Really enjoying Smallville and I’m so glad that Michael Rosenbaum is coming back to play Lex Luther. I did post that on the live chat a few days ago and in another thred. Smallville really has it right now and with Clark putting on the Glasses and becoming the mild mannered reporter it is really bringing the Superman mythology home.
Looking forward to BSG Blood and chrome. Sad about fringe. Hope they can keep SGU on for another season and wonder what surprise they would have in store for us.

I,m loving what they are doing with V. The thing with the Vs trying to mass Breed with us Humans is interesting. Looks like the battle for earth is really picking up. I like the new Wonder Woman. I just hope they make it good and not a corney show. Make it a little like Smallville and we are good.

I don’t watch Smallville but was that Erica Durance kissing Clark Kent? Harry… Harry…. comment?

And Harry Ballz, check out this picture… Ahhh she’s kind of beautiful? I have no idea if she can act but um.. if I were casting for Star Trek…

3.

It’s amazing the lengths Welling will ghis art!

Beautiful? BB, tell me, when do you go in for that cataract surgery?

go to for his art

friggin’ typos!

SAVE FRINGE. Look, I’ve criticized Star Trek (2009) for being shallow but “Fringe’ is not. It’s all that talky-gooey stuff that science fiction fans love. Yet it has action too. So far, its’ deep. Both Olivias in either universe are characters that you root for. Talk about shades of grey. Plus it’s emotional. It also has important things to say. Hmm… sounds like a show we all love. And speaking of Star Trek, Bob Orci, Alex Kurtzman and J.J. Abrams crreated it.

Want more? John Noble (Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King) is a one man acting class. He reminds me of Judi Dench. I can read his emotions by looking at his face.

I will say that Fringe needs more stand alone episodes outside of its mythology. And I wanted aliens but frankly I forgot the Observers are not human so maybe they’re aliens from another universe. Please, my fellow Trekkers watch Fringe.

@ 4 Harry Ballz

I’ll go for my cataract surgery as soon as I figure out a way to pay for it. :- ) Phyliss Diller is kind of hot, isn’t she? Wait, I let me put on my glasses.

@ 4 Harry Ballz

Since you’re a Canadian, got a problem with Canadians? Erica Durance – Canadian. Wiillima “Captain Kirk” Shatner-Canadian. My favorite Playboy Playmate, Shannon Tweed-… sorry, it’s hard to type with one hand- she’s a Canadian.. Oh, …. Canada….

Really sad that SGU got canceled. I just started watching it and burned through a ton of episodes really quickly because I was enjoying it so much. SGU is what BSG should have been. I hope since the crew had so much time to plan the end of the show there will be some sort of wrap-up so I don’t have to deal with yet ANOTHER great sci-fi show ending abruptly. Defying Gravity, anyone?

9. “SGU is what BSG should have been. ”

Uh no.

I like SGU but in my humble opinion it doesn’t touch BSG.

IMHO of course ;)

I really wish that when a new series is commissioned by syfy they have a story arch to it, so if it is cancelled, you get closure. Looking forward to Blood and Chrome but if it turns into a series I am beginning to question whether it is worth watching it until after first season has been aired in case it gets canned mid season.

Stargate Universe is awesome! I hope they get the green light for season three.

Don’t get me wrong I have loved both Battlestar Galactica and Caprica and look forward to Blood and Chrome, but if the ratings were so poor for these series why are they attempting a third series in the Galactica universe?

So the only way Wonder Woman comes back to TV is as a corporate hack?

Love the Supernatural animated news.

Nothing even loks remotely interesting here. Smallville was always rubbish and the endless Battlestar updating dull. At least Dr Who is coming back soon.

BSG and SGU both had the same problem in my opinion: no likeble characters. I lasted longer with BSG (two years) before I gave up and thereafter only watched sporadically. SGU I abandoned after five or six episodes.

THAT”S wonder woman?

……um, ok.

Wonder Woman could be good. Rosenbaum coming back is good news, but no matter what the show was never as good as the first 3 years no matter what they did.

Fringe is the best frakking show on TV. Hawaii Five 0 is closing in though

If my choice it between watching commercials to keep gas in Chaz McMarketing’s Ferrari and not ever getting to watch my favorite shows again, I guess I’ll read more.

I’d love to see a study on the demographics of people that sit and watch the commercials vs those that don’t. Is it me, or is it the interesting shows which always seem to suffer from live viewers, but do real well in DVR viewership, compared to those which you seem to never hear are endangered of being canceled, like all the reality stuff and bad comedies with laugh tracks, and the 37th CSI (the original is still ok, but I do damn them for getting rid of Wendy and freeing up money for Justin Beiber, though seeing him blasted away was rather therapeutic, I’ll admit. How about a spin off? CSI: Wendy and Hodges – there you go!)?

Is this largely an American thing? How’s TV in Canada, New Zealand, England? I rather liked Torchwood and Flashpoint. TV still free there, or are you paying $200/mo cable bills as well?

And don’t even get me started on the cell phone industry.

NO further interest in the watered-down US Being Human. I just can’t take it any more. UK version is vastly superior in every way.

I am a big fan of Smallville and have stuck with it al 10 Seasons. One of the best shows on T.V. Along with N.C.I.S and and L.A and Hawaii Five O

20.

Derf, here in Canada we pay a lot for our cable channels, and what has been reported as the highest cellphone costs in the WORLD! Lucky us!

Erica Durance for the role of Janice Rand!!!

Is this “Outcast” series worth watching? If so, may have to look for the DVD’s later when they are released. The plot sounds interesting. Anyone? Anyone?

Poor Michael Rosenbaum… he barely had time to grow his hair out.

I think Harry should be the next Johnathon Kent for the new Superman Movie.

BSG online is surprisingly good. A nice homage to one of my favorite shows

Harry, did you accuse Tom Welling of having art? If you’re referring to his acting, his art is strictly paint-by-the-numbers.

The Wonder Woman news is awful. Seriously, are they turning her into a female Batman (vigilante crime fighter/successful corporate type?)

29.

I was actually talking about Tom having Art, the catering boy, behind the craft services truck. But, that’s another story! :>)

27.

Yeah, and as Superboy, he’d milk dem cows dern fast, let me tell ya!

I hope they don’t ruin Wonder Woman but it sounds like they might have already.

#25 I’ve really enjoyed Outcasts, although it’s come in for a massive amount of flak. To me, it’s very well made for what it is – okay there’s some hokey dialogue and cliched characters, but it’s good sci-fi.

I’m also loving the dark and bloody turn of V’s second season.

Can’t wait for Blood and Chrome!

Every show I like seems is canceled or close to it. I don’t know why Fringe doesn’t get better ratings. It’s a great show with intelligent writing, humor, sci-fi, action, and it’s seriously twisted at times. It reminds me very much of X Files, but I think it does a far better job than X Files with the long story arch.

unfortunately the comercials is how these corporations make money. Why bother to produce a show, if the commericals aren’t being watched, and companies do not want to connect them with the show. The money making reason for having the show is gone. So, the studios say “alright, we can’t just make this show because it’s a great show, it has to make money too, or we are out of a job.” It’s the way of life…..

@ 36

Fringe got good ratings when it started out. Then Fox moved it to Thursday where it went agains CSI, Grey’s Anatomy, and The Office. Now remember this was its second year when it was moved. (Link below) In my opinion, Fox should have never moved it to Thursday so early. They should have let the show build its audience and then move it. If Fox cancels, one can only hope it move to another network such as SyFy (ugh, hate that name) or AMC or HBO.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fringe_(TV_series)#Broadcast

Interested in any and all news on Blood & Chrome. I’m wondering if, since BSG’s reboot took a sort of modern-day aesthetic, and Caprica a very 1940s look, if Blood & Chrome will have a look that’ll fall somewhere in between… 1960s or 70s. It might end up looking like the original BSG series! The toasters will certainly look the same, as will the Cylon raiders, I would imagine. Just a thought! The look to differentiate Caprica from the BSG reboot was something I heard was very deliberate, so I’m sure the art department will be charged with a similar task to put Blood & Chrome somewhere in the middle, aesthetically.

#6 Word. Too bad about FRINGE — it’s really been interesting lately! And it’s never NOT been interesting.

And John Noble is fantastic–anyone who can give a bad guy so much complexity and depth, as he did in LOTR. I’m absolutely delighted he’s been given the complex, comic/tragic character Walter (and Walternate).

At least CHUCK is hanging in. Why are the best sci-fi shows doomed, though, to early cancellation through lack of network support and getting jerked around with the time slots?

I really hope that Fringe stays on the air, it is such a wonderful and brilliant show. And this season just keeps getting better and better with each episode.

Question about how the Superman mythology remains intact after the series finale of Smallville – do Lex and Lois suddenly suffer from short- and long-term memory loss? Until Lois and Clark become an item, she doesn’t know he’s really Superman, and Lex (to my knowledge) never knows. So how does having the world’s greatest supervillain knowing your secret identity actually help you fight crime? Just wondering how big the reset button is going to be in this instance.

#42 I doubt they’ll erase Lois’ memory. She and Clark end up together in the comics; so what if it happens a little sooner in this continuity? That rapidly aging Alexander clone was starting to forget things the last time we saw him, so I assumed that was their convenient way of removing his knowledge about Clark’s secret identity. But now it’s looking like he might not even grow up to become the new Lex, so I’m really not sure how they’re going to handle the character’s return.

40
Check out Justified. All of the characters are complex in that regard…especially the villains.

SAVE FRINGE!!!!!!!

Hoping the suggestion that Nimoy will be back on FRINGE is true (and Walter’s story about Bell’s belief in coming back after death is a clue), and if it IS, hoping they promote the HELL out of it and keep the ratings up so we don’t lose this cool show.

How long does it have to go again before it’s eligible for syndication?

Well, the rest of us will be buying the DVD’s anyway.

There are six free-to-air channels in NZ at the moment. They are all commercial channels. By law, there are three and a half days that are commercial free – Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Christmas Day and ANZAC Day. The channels can advertise themselves and upcoming programmes, but I think that is also limited. So kiwis do get a blessed, though small, reprieve from the bloody marketers and advertisers during those days.

Fringe is on at 10.30pm Thursday. I am enjoying it. I agree – John Noble is just so good. It is also packed with advertisements, unfortunately. It seems that the channel has realised that the programme has a reasonable sized niche market (many people has written asking what’s happened to Fringe…). The ads are unbearable, especially then, as I am tired and just want to watch the programme. My patience for annoying distractions is not high at the best of times. I am sure that the constant bombardment of bloody advertisements is driving viewers away; in fact, I am certain of it.

Unfortunately, I have not seen the third episode of Hawaii Five-O yet because of the earthquake that hit Christchurch yesterday. TV3 did an extended news broadcast covering the disaster last night, which meant that its scheduled programmes, Hawaii Five-O and NCIS – LA, did not screen…:(

The amount of advertising is unbearable here as well. It is making even good programmes barely watchable, constantly interrupting continuity. I’m sure it must be driving away viewers.

Fringe is on at 10.30pm on Thursdays. I am not sure what series it is, but it is good. Unfortunately there is a fair bit of advertising (I guess the channel must think Fringe has a good niche market – people have written to the local TV Guide asking what’s happened to Fringe…), which I find more than frustrating, since I am tired when I am watching anyway, so my patience for annoying distractions is not high.

Sorry for the repeat post. The first post here is the one that I mean to have on this board.

Just watching Hawaii Five-O. TV3 has moved its Tuesday night’s schedule to Wednesday night. Cool. Hopefully, after Hawaii, they will screen NCIS:LA. Gotta go. *Blessed* ads coming to an end.

SAVE FRINGE!

And jeezus, get rid of The Cape. It’s the worst show on TV. It feels like it was written by a special ed class with ADD.
