Spock Sighted In New Leaked Star Trek Sequel Set Photo April 16, 2012

It has happened again. Even with the Great Wall of Secrecy, another image from the Star Trek sequel production has leaked out. This time it is another image of Zachary Quinto as Spock in a very interesting outfit. Check it out below, but it is a bit spoilery.
Spock as Iron Man?
The latest image comes from On Location News (via MTV), and it features Zachary Quinto as Spock in what appears to be some kind of special suit/uniform (which is somewhat reminiscent of the Iron Man suit).
The description from On Location News (misspelling Spock’s name) notes:
After first rehearsing the scene with a Spok Stunt Double Actor Zachary Quinto was then rigged to a wire in front of a large green screen and lifted to a height of 10 stories high then dropped at a high rate of speed as if he was falling. In the scene Spok is wearing a “Volcano Suit” and carrying an unknown piece of equipment with the Starfleet Emblem. A Volcano is somehow involved in this scene. The crew had a real fire burning off camera to catch the fire reflections on Spok’s “Volcano Suit”

Hahaha memory wall scene…nice. The suit definitely has a touch of Iron Man to it, but it also reminds me a bit of the EVA suits in TMP and TWOK as well as the orbital skydiving suit from the Generations deleted scenes and VOY: Extreme Risk. I’m a bit bothered by him wearing red, though. The last movie gave each division its respective colour for suits…kinda.

These leaked photos (this and those platformy ones), on their own, are making this new movie look sorta lame.
Spock vs. the Volcano isn’t going to want to make me see this thing. But, well, set/rehearsal shots always look lame…
Why are we only seeing Zachary Quinto/Spock in “leaked” scenes? Frankly, if like last time these pictures are coming via MTV, I really think the leaking of these scenes has been engineered by the makers themselves.
To me, the suit looks a more golden brown colour and as for the lit up codpiece, well that’s to give a possible insight into just how much fun Lt Uhura could get to have. That is, of course, when Spock is not suited up and falling from great heights…
Now for a similarly “leaked” scene via MTV of the fine Pine/Kirk being THE captain of the Enterprise… Bring it on!
PS. Huh, “Looper” listed on that site (Joseph Gordon Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt — directed by the Brick guy) sound spretty good. I hadn’t heard of it before. This will be a good year for genre movies.
PS2. Can somebody please reassure me that this next Trek won’t be lame. Just make crap up if you need to. Wasn’t there a story of somebody seeing Abrams filming that skydiving scene on the Paramount parking lot and being convinced, just by that, that the movie would be terrible…
If this stuff is leaked through Paramount, as some have suggested here, are the terrible descriptions, awful photos etc. on purpose and intended for it to look/sound not officially leaked? And why are the photos so awful?

Ugh. I was hoping that there would be some kind of release of a plot or something to go along with the picture but….nothing? Just a random picture with no explaination whatsoever? As you can read from earlier comments it’s become kind of a joke.
I do empathize with JJ’s drive for privacy, but I will say this in our defense. He’s going to have to release some information pretty soon or by the time the movie comes out everyone would’ve seen it through shoddy leaked photos/videos.

Some people are taking these photos far too seriously and I suspect JJ is laughing his head off… Ease up, people. May 17, 2013 is still exactly 13 months away and filming has still not finished yet. Lots of post-production work to be done yet and possible call backs to the various actors for whatever reason.
This is just a bit o’ fun, folks – hey, the shoddier the better, I say…:)!

I know it looks lame but you never know! It might be one of the best parts of the movie! Can’t wait!!!!!!! Oh and please Mr. J.J. Abrams, at least tell us who the villain is, or give us a snip of the plot! I can’t wait for Comic-Con, I hope you release something that leaves us in real suspense without spoiling the movie!(like a poster with only the Star Trek logo on it, or a teaser trailer that shows little to none of the movie) That way, we can get a little hint of the movie, (like the title) and get even more excited without spoiling it! 395 days, 7 hours, 53 minutes, and 26 seconds to go!
47. I’m sure hoping we’re not in the releasing the plot stage yet, or, frankly, until it’s released — the movie’s still over a year away.
And, you know, Trek’s not particularly unique in protecting details — the cast of the Avengers each was assigned a press person to let them know what questions they could and couldn’t answer in recent interviews, so they wouldn’t give anything away (I’m assuming that story’s true and the actors weren’t kidding).
And, btw — I was pretty thrilled with the marketing for The Cabin in the Woods, which seems to give everything away and yet doesn’t really give anything away (and does a nice job of misleading). Get those guys to make your trailer.
Cabin was a great genre film, by the way. A little late-90s-meta, but pretty great. I’d had really, really low expectations (I thought it would be terrible Saw-style torture nonsense) and quite loved it.
I’m hating these leaks — I need to not look anymore. I was annoyed by the last film that I’d already seen most of the costumes (like those cool Kobayashi Maru outfits) and a bit too much of the bridge. Any chance of not showing the actual photo next to the story on the news page — and, say, just showing that generic Trekbusters 2 (which I love, by the way) image?
I really miss going to movies and being surprised when you suddenly see an actor or a situation that you didn’t expect — Cabin did that for me. I hope Trek does too.

I have to remind myself that the orbital skydiving filming from the first movie would have probably looked as unremarkable in a similar photo. But on screen, that sequence was riviting!
I’m confident the current creative team won’t let us down.
From the shape of the helmet, it looks like an environment suit like they used in TOS. As for the color, that could just be to set it off from the green/blue screen background for the special effects and it could appear much different on film once the effects are edited in.
Set photos always look lame. What matters is what we will see on the screen. Which will clearly be nothing like this photo.

#57 and #59. Exactly. Not sure why so many people don’t understand this basic fact.
For most of the filming of the space jump scene in 2009 Trek, the actors were just standing on a mirror in a parking lot with a fan blowing on them and a camara above them focused mostly on their face.
Most of the rest was special effects added later.
Had you seen photos of that during production you would have probably thought it looked stupid or “lame” as well.
Sitting here alone in my hotel room, so I’ll engage in a little idle, if completely silly,speculation…feel free to join in my analysis.
SO he’s falling…into a volcano. But he’s dressed in a protective suit, so the encounter with the volcano was intentional, even if it may not be going very well (he’s falling, after all).
Ok, so for some reason, he’s going into a volcano, he must be going for reason. And…he’s carrying something. Logically – it’s either something he’s taking INTO the volcano, or retrieving FROM the volcano. One way or the other, it’s something he needs, otherwise – why would he be carrying it?
Why would someone take something INTO a volcano? Probably to either destroy the thing he’s carrying (see: Lord of the Rings) or perhaps something to make the volcano either erupt or stop erupting.
He’s also looking up with his hand in the air. So, assuming that this is a camera rolling moment (a big assumption) – as opposed to a between take moment – it also seems like he’s looking up, and reaching for (or perhaps has lost his hold on) something – or someone. If I was falling into a volcano, I’d be looking down at my imminent death approaching me, but he’s not. Perhaps he’s looking at someone swooping in to grab him as he’s falling…or maybe not (they don’t want to repeat the Kirk/Sulu mid-air grab from the last movie.)
If the thing he is carrying is something that he is retrieving from the volcano – then it’s pretty important. Perhaps something Mr. Cumberbatch has taken…? Perhaps the fight we glimpsed in the previously seen set photos is the “TELL ME WHERE IT IS!!!” fight scene, in which Spock and Uhura get the info out of bad-guy Cumberbatch, leading Spock to have to undertake this dangerous mission…
Anyway, pure speculation. I’m bored. So, any takers?

I don’t know why having a volcano in the movie is automatically a bad thing.
The scene of Vulcan’s distruction, with the actors running to escape, could have been called an “Earthquake” scene just as easily during production. And likely would have been given JJ’s nack for secrecy and vague titles.
A volcano? Really? JJ, this isn’t “Star Wars Episode III,” this is suppose to be “Star Trek.” Sadly, based on the first JJ Trek, I don’t think he gets that..or cares. Down with JJ Trek!

No one can look at this pic, or the others, and have any idea of what is going on, or make any statement as to the quality of the movie or story.

Most of the photos have shown, what I completely expected to see, the same basic costumes from the 2009 movie.
We have seen, like in this photo, a couple of “new” costumes, but again, that is completely expected.
To me it doesn’t ruin anything to see these costumes. I guess because I assume that we will only see them for a few minutes on screen, and I will be much more concerned with what is happening in the scene than the cosume the actor is wearing.

The Greek God Apollo returns and tells them they must throw a virgin into a volcano to satisfy his wrath. He neglects to tell the crew that the virgin cannot be wearing a volcano proof suit, so its Spock to the rescue.
Looks like Spock gets pushed/falls into the volcano. The suit may be for reflecting heat.

Mr. Bob Orci, it seems that Spock is doing action sequences more than in Star Trek. It would be something different from what we saw in the original series. I like. For me, Spock is a diferent Vulcan because he is half-human, so, he must sometimes react according to his human nature.
My guess is that he is carrying Red Matter in the case.
Spock is trying to stop Vulcan’s demise by traveling to the past and stopping the Nero drill with abother dose of Red matter.
We did not get to see what Spock did while he was using Spock-Prime’s Time Ship in ST09.

The ship he travelled was a small, fast, very manoeuverable vessel designed for the express purpose of delivering to the supernova a red matter into its core in order to destroy it by causing it to implode. The ship was the Jellyfish, not the TARDIS!

Nevertheless, and, although I could be wrong, I think some of that secrecy might be staged…to make it ( the shooting ) more intriguing than it really is.
Such a technique, if indeed there is any, is working wonders for me.
For, before the building of a wall around a Star Trek location shoot recently, my expectations, regarding the next Star Trek, were high.
They are now “through the roof”!

We have seen photos from 2 scenes where Spock is doing some action. If you had seen a photo of Spock and Kirk fighting on the bridge, and Spock running through the caves on Vulcan trying to save his mom, then you would have seen the exact same amount of “action” photos of Spock from the 2009 film.
So, you can make the leap and say that Spock has more action scenes in this movie than the last based on 2 sets of photos.

I have to say that picture makes Quinto looks ridiculous. He looks like the suit is too big for him, and when it is suspended by wires, he is sinking down in the suit until he can hardly see out of the helmet. Hopefully the actual scene won’t make him look so silly.

#153 I’ve said that before, but no one paid attention.
The other pics were shot from angle that would make it impossible for someone to be far away using a high powered lens. If the those photos were taken from the same position and elevated I would agree, but they were taken from different positions around the set and from an angle that suggested the photographer was below the set. I find it very hard to believe that someone could have gotten those pics from a great distance without something getting inbetween them and the set, unless JJ was so stupid as to shoot in a open parking lot with no barreirs at all.
Lets do some speculation…. maybe that device is a Red Matter Quantum Reversal Enabler made by our favorite Prime Universe Vulcan and given to the the new time line Vulcan to return the planet Vulcan to its rightful place in the Galaxy…and the UFP.
Thats my guess and it sounds good to me to go with until I see the film. However, I have no doubt that there will be countless spoilers between now and May 2013.

Simon Pegg tweeted the other day that he had gotten home from work at 2 or 3 the night before, and then tin he brand new part 2 of the Alice Eve interview she referred to working really really late at night. Hey, and Jay, about the costumes. I just like to see things for the first time as they’re meant to be seen. It looks like some of the Starfleet variants have different boots (there’s a buckle I hadn’t noticed before), that sort of thing. Totally minor. I’d rather see them onscreen or in the usually pretty unrevealing promo shots/EW covers etc. It’s totally just me (I usually try to avoud them, in this case, I thought I’d just be seeing that face shot — (apparently I’ve never been to a website before), but it’s like sneaking a taste of a dish when the meat is still raw and half the ingredients haven’t been added. I know, intellectually, that it’ll be gussied up like crazy, but, yep, for now it looks lame, and that worries me (irrationally).
PS. The folks complaining about secrecy — heck, the cast of the avengers has pr flacks with them for interviews and they have to check with them first before answering questions. Having mispent my youth on rumour/spoiler sites, well, I’m just hoping to go into this thing knowing as little as possible. But I don’t have the willpower to not come here. :)

Post #95. I think you are on the correct track. It’s not a volcano. Spock has gone back in time to the moment the the drill blasted a hole in the planet Vulcan to drop in the red matter. Do’t ask why not earlier, it’s for drama. He will catch the red matter in the ant-grav box he has, and save Vulcan.
