Spock Sighted In New Leaked Star Trek Sequel Set Photo April 16, 2012

by TrekMovie.com Staff , Filed under: Spoilers,Star Trek Into Darkness , trackback

It has happened again. Even with the Great Wall of Secrecy, another image from the Star Trek sequel production has leaked out. This time it is another image of Zachary Quinto as Spock in a very interesting outfit. Check it out below, but it is a bit spoilery.

Spock as Iron Man?

The latest image comes from On Location News (via MTV), and it features Zachary Quinto as Spock in what appears to be some kind of special suit/uniform (which is somewhat reminiscent of the Iron Man suit).

The description from On Location News (misspelling Spock’s name) notes:

After first rehearsing the scene with a Spok Stunt Double Actor Zachary Quinto was then rigged to a wire in front of a large green screen and lifted to a height of 10 stories high then dropped at a high rate of speed as if he was falling. In the scene Spok is wearing a “Volcano Suit” and carrying an unknown piece of equipment with the Starfleet Emblem. A Volcano is somehow involved in this scene. The crew had a real fire burning off camera to catch the fire reflections on Spok’s “Volcano Suit”

Just another day at the office for Mr. Spock.

The memory wall scene finally! :)

3. Commodore Redshirt - April 16, 2012

ah … the good ol Green Screen… that tels us a whole lot about the story..!

4. ST fan - April 16, 2012

I wonder what he’s carrying! Guess we’ll find out 5/17/13! I’m counting down the days!

5. T'Cal - April 16, 2012

It’s a stolen cloaking device!

6. Horatio - April 16, 2012

Hmmm… is he looking for the Defiant?????

7. Last Red-shirt standing - April 16, 2012

Looks a little too Vulcan esq…. Not starfleet issue?

PS: Destination Star trek London!!!! Woo Hoo!

8. Vultan - April 16, 2012

Iron Man? Looks more like the end of Disney’s “The Black Hole.”
Maximilian approved.

9. rm10019 - April 16, 2012

This looks a lot like some screen caps from the new Trek PS3 game, but i would guess they don’t need ZQ for that just his CG likeness.

10. corvette king - April 16, 2012

Doesn’t he know that V’ger has no hope

11. Commodore Mike of the Terran Empire - April 16, 2012

Hey. Maybe he is trying to mind meld with VGER!.

12. rm10019 - April 16, 2012

Why is his codpiece illuminated?

13. Jamie - April 16, 2012

Hahaha memory wall scene…nice. The suit definitely has a touch of Iron Man to it, but it also reminds me a bit of the EVA suits in TMP and TWOK as well as the orbital skydiving suit from the Generations deleted scenes and VOY: Extreme Risk. I’m a bit bothered by him wearing red, though. The last movie gave each division its respective colour for suits…kinda.

14. Anthony Thompson - April 16, 2012

Cool. But…where is our countdown clock and where is our online chat with JJ, Bob and the actors?

15. Red Dead Ryan - April 16, 2012

Uh-oh, Spock is dressed in red….

16. Anthony Thompson - April 16, 2012

15.

And?

17. The A-Man - April 16, 2012

This looks like the Kirk skydiving costume from the Star Trek Generations deleted scene…

18. Antonioerre - April 16, 2012

V’Ger flyover :P

19. Zinc Saucier - April 16, 2012

On the MTV site they said the scene involves a volcano. They also spell Spock wrong a lot:

“Zachary Quinto as Spok filming an action scene for the Untitled Star Trek 2 Sequel. The crew had a real fire burning off camera to catch the fire reflections on Spok’s “Volcano Suit”.”

20. Mikey1091 - April 16, 2012

Awesome! Don’t think I need to say this but I will anyway: JJ is gonna be pissed!

21. Allister Gourlay - April 16, 2012

helmet looks a bit like TOS space suit updated?

22. Trekman_dave - April 16, 2012

JJ I mean this in a nice way but please can we have a title for the movie

23. Red Dead Ryan - April 16, 2012

#19.

“On the MTV site they said the scene involves a volcano.”

Hmmm…..could this be the villain’s (Benedict Cumberbatch) lair?

If so, I think I might’ve figured out the sequel’s title, it’s:

“YOU ONLY LIVE LONG AND PROSPER TWICE”!

24. rm10019 - April 16, 2012

Live and Let Prosper

25. The Sky's The Limit - April 16, 2012

Someone’s got some splainin’ to do!!!

26. Jeff - April 16, 2012

#23 – Wrong. It’s:

“QUANTUM OF VULCAN”

or maybe

“THE MAN WITH THE VULCAN TOUCH”

27. AJ - April 16, 2012

Is this a joke?

28. Vultan - April 16, 2012

Double-O Spock!

29. Craiger - April 16, 2012

I am still torn between wanting to know everything about the sequel and only wanting to know who the villain is. Sometimes I think we got too spoiled with news on the last movie. Maybe that is the reason JJ is being to secretive this time?

30. Zinc Saucier - April 16, 2012

“Never Say Never Vulcan”

31. Vultan - April 16, 2012

Well, a volcano suit is perfect for a Vulcan.
Vulcan being the Roman god of fire and volcanoes.

32. NCC-73515 - April 16, 2012

Vulcanball.

33. I'm Dead Jim! - April 16, 2012

Maybe Spock is returning the Ring to Mt. Doom!

34. Duncan MacLeod - April 16, 2012

12. rm10019 – April 16, 2012

Why is his codpiece illuminated?

TL;DR? There is a fire off screen that illuminates his suit, this is just a funny still that makes it look that way

35. AJ - April 16, 2012

It looks like ZQ’s head photoshopped into some crappy spacesuit on strings.

36. Lord Garth, Formerly of Izar - April 16, 2012

Enough Spock

That looks like the updated biohazard suit from Naked TIme BTW

Need to see Kirk doing a dropkick judo chop combo

37. Jack - April 16, 2012

12. Why aren’t all codpieces illuminated.

38. Andy Patterson - April 16, 2012

He’s carrying Nomad

39. Jack - April 16, 2012

These leaked photos (this and those platformy ones), on their own, are making this new movie look sorta lame.

Spock vs. the Volcano isn’t going to want to make me see this thing. But, well, set/rehearsal shots always look lame…

40. Keachick - rose pinenut (F) - April 16, 2012

Why are we only seeing Zachary Quinto/Spock in “leaked” scenes? Frankly, if like last time these pictures are coming via MTV, I really think the leaking of these scenes has been engineered by the makers themselves.

To me, the suit looks a more golden brown colour and as for the lit up codpiece, well that’s to give a possible insight into just how much fun Lt Uhura could get to have. That is, of course, when Spock is not suited up and falling from great heights…

Now for a similarly “leaked” scene via MTV of the fine Pine/Kirk being THE captain of the Enterprise… Bring it on!

41. Jack - April 16, 2012

PS. Huh, “Looper” listed on that site (Joseph Gordon Levitt, Bruce Willis, Emily Blunt — directed by the Brick guy) sound spretty good. I hadn’t heard of it before. This will be a good year for genre movies.

PS2. Can somebody please reassure me that this next Trek won’t be lame. Just make crap up if you need to. Wasn’t there a story of somebody seeing Abrams filming that skydiving scene on the Paramount parking lot and being convinced, just by that, that the movie would be terrible…

If this stuff is leaked through Paramount, as some have suggested here, are the terrible descriptions, awful photos etc. on purpose and intended for it to look/sound not officially leaked? And why are the photos so awful?

Generally, I wish I hadn’t seen this. I need to stop clicking on these stories — I thought I could just read the opening paragraph, but it was all there… :)

42. CAPT KRUNCH - April 16, 2012

Does look like a scene from TMP…Oh J.J. is pissed again…all of these leaked photos etc….. they seem to keep slipping out…I still think think these are being leaked on purpose…

43. rm10019 - April 16, 2012

34 – Thanks, I know, this still just made it look silly I’m sure. Having a bit of fun, as I’m sure JJ’s head is exploding.

44. Chris Peterson - April 16, 2012

Spock space jumps from the Enterprise onto a drilling platform that’s causing an eruption of magma?! This movie is going to be completely original, and it’s just fun to say magma. Mag…ma.

45. rm10019 - April 16, 2012

This suit looks a bit nicer.. wonder if they will cgi in the face sheild as a forcefield?

http://trekweb.com/articles/2012/04/12/New-Details-on-the-Star-Trek-Game-Based-on-the-JJ-Abrams-Trek-Timeline.shtml

46. CmdrR - April 16, 2012

My mind to your magma…

or….

Horta! I’m hoooome…

or….

oh, screw it. that codpiece is obscene.

47. LizardGirl - April 16, 2012

Ugh. I was hoping that there would be some kind of release of a plot or something to go along with the picture but….nothing? Just a random picture with no explaination whatsoever? As you can read from earlier comments it’s become kind of a joke.

I do empathize with JJ’s drive for privacy, but I will say this in our defense. He’s going to have to release some information pretty soon or by the time the movie comes out everyone would’ve seen it through shoddy leaked photos/videos.

It won’t be an action movie but a comedy.

48. Phil - April 16, 2012

A Volcano suit? The suit is orange, how do we know it’s not an “Orange Julius” suit….

49. TrekkerChick - April 16, 2012

Oh oh…

He’s wearing a suit to avoid the scenario of being crisped if he fails to successfuly Force jump during his light saber fight on Mustafar

50. spencerjayk - April 16, 2012

Is Spock the only one in this damn movie? Sometimes I wonder if these guys remember that Star Trek is also about some guy named KIRK…

51. Keachick - rose pinenut (F) - April 16, 2012

Some people are taking these photos far too seriously and I suspect JJ is laughing his head off… Ease up, people. May 17, 2013 is still exactly 13 months away and filming has still not finished yet. Lots of post-production work to be done yet and possible call backs to the various actors for whatever reason.

This is just a bit o’ fun, folks – hey, the shoddier the better, I say…:)!

52. ST fan - April 16, 2012

oooooohhhh, What is Spock doing in a volcano……..
I know it looks lame but you never know! It might be one of the best parts of the movie! Can’t wait!!!!!!! Oh and please Mr. J.J. Abrams, at least tell us who the villain is, or give us a snip of the plot! I can’t wait for Comic-Con, I hope you release something that leaves us in real suspense without spoiling the movie!(like a poster with only the Star Trek logo on it, or a teaser trailer that shows little to none of the movie) That way, we can get a little hint of the movie, (like the title) and get even more excited without spoiling it! 395 days, 7 hours, 53 minutes, and 26 seconds to go!

53. Jack - April 16, 2012

47. I’m sure hoping we’re not in the releasing the plot stage yet, or, frankly, until it’s released — the movie’s still over a year away.

And, you know, Trek’s not particularly unique in protecting details — the cast of the Avengers each was assigned a press person to let them know what questions they could and couldn’t answer in recent interviews, so they wouldn’t give anything away (I’m assuming that story’s true and the actors weren’t kidding).

And, btw — I was pretty thrilled with the marketing for The Cabin in the Woods, which seems to give everything away and yet doesn’t really give anything away (and does a nice job of misleading). Get those guys to make your trailer.

Cabin was a great genre film, by the way. A little late-90s-meta, but pretty great. I’d had really, really low expectations (I thought it would be terrible Saw-style torture nonsense) and quite loved it.

I’m hating these leaks — I need to not look anymore. I was annoyed by the last film that I’d already seen most of the costumes (like those cool Kobayashi Maru outfits) and a bit too much of the bridge. Any chance of not showing the actual photo next to the story on the news page — and, say, just showing that generic Trekbusters 2 (which I love, by the way) image?

I really miss going to movies and being surprised when you suddenly see an actor or a situation that you didn’t expect — Cabin did that for me. I hope Trek does too.

54. Oddness - April 16, 2012

a Vulcano .. haha

Looks like a reflective metallic suit for high heat scenarios to me. Just a guess though…

55. Daoud - April 16, 2012

We’re the devil in the dark.
.
He’s doing the Pulaski down the L.A.Law turbolift shaft. 85 Decks on the Enterprise, right? Just goes to show ya… proof positive that Star Trek V is canon in the JJ-verse. Explains a lot, don’cha know.

56. Daoud - April 16, 2012

Oh, and why not Spok? “ck” is illogical when just “k” would do.

57. "Check the Circuit!" - April 16, 2012

I have to remind myself that the orbital skydiving filming from the first movie would have probably looked as unremarkable in a similar photo. But on screen, that sequence was riviting!

I’m confident the current creative team won’t let us down.

58. Perry - April 16, 2012

From the shape of the helmet, it looks like an environment suit like they used in TOS. As for the color, that could just be to set it off from the green/blue screen background for the special effects and it could appear much different on film once the effects are edited in.

59. Caek - April 16, 2012

Set photos always look lame. What matters is what we will see on the screen. Which will clearly be nothing like this photo.

60. Remington Steele - April 16, 2012

Anyone else just see this online

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqF5Bs05elw&feature=g-all-u&context=G2c66716FAAAAAAAADAA

61. Kaleb - April 16, 2012

A volcano…

Really?

62. Jay - April 16, 2012

#57 and #59. Exactly. Not sure why so many people don’t understand this basic fact.

For most of the filming of the space jump scene in 2009 Trek, the actors were just standing on a mirror in a parking lot with a fan blowing on them and a camara above them focused mostly on their face.

Most of the rest was special effects added later.

Had you seen photos of that during production you would have probably thought it looked stupid or “lame” as well.

63. bmar - April 16, 2012

Sitting here alone in my hotel room, so I’ll engage in a little idle, if completely silly, speculation…feel free to join in my analysis.

SO he’s falling…into a volcano. But he’s dressed in a protective suit, so the encounter with the volcano was intentional, even if it may not be going very well (he’s falling, after all).

Ok, so for some reason, he’s going into a volcano, he must be going for reason. And…he’s carrying something. Logically – it’s either something he’s taking INTO the volcano, or retrieving FROM the volcano. One way or the other, it’s something he needs, otherwise – why would he be carrying it?

Why would someone take something INTO a volcano? Probably to either destroy the thing he’s carrying (see: Lord of the Rings) or perhaps something to make the volcano either erupt or stop erupting.

He’s also looking up with his hand in the air. So, assuming that this is a camera rolling moment (a big assumption) – as opposed to a between take moment – it also seems like he’s looking up, and reaching for (or perhaps has lost his hold on) something – or someone. If I was falling into a volcano, I’d be looking down at my imminent death approaching me, but he’s not. Perhaps he’s looking at someone swooping in to grab him as he’s falling…or maybe not (they don’t want to repeat the Kirk/Sulu mid-air grab from the last movie.)

If the thing he is carrying is something that he is retrieving from the volcano – then it’s pretty important. Perhaps something Mr. Cumberbatch has taken…? Perhaps the fight we glimpsed in the previously seen set photos is the “TELL ME WHERE IT IS!!!” fight scene, in which Spock and Uhura get the info out of bad-guy Cumberbatch, leading Spock to have to undertake this dangerous mission…

Anyway, pure speculation. I’m bored. So, any takers?

64. Jay - April 16, 2012

#61 Without context there is no way to understand how it fits the story.

I don’t know why having a volcano in the movie is automatically a bad thing.

The scene of Vulcan’s distruction, with the actors running to escape, could have been called an “Earthquake” scene just as easily during production. And likely would have been given JJ’s nack for secrecy and vague titles.

65. Jason - April 16, 2012

A volcano? Really? JJ, this isn’t “Star Wars Episode III,” this is suppose to be “Star Trek.” Sadly, based on the first JJ Trek, I don’t think he gets that..or cares. Down with JJ Trek!

66. Jack - April 16, 2012

62. I think most people get that, no? For me, it’s more the costumes I’ve seen. Yes, I understand that it will look completely different. I’ve seen movies before. But I’m still not a fan of seeing these things — and, I know, “so don’t look, then.”

67. Jeff O'Connor - April 16, 2012

#64

I will even out your negative comment with a positive one: keep it up, JJ. It’s a different kind of Trek but I like it for what it is. :)

68. Jay - April 16, 2012

#64 huh?

Yeah, JJ obviously doesn’t care based on a completely non-discript photo that you know nothing about.

It never ceases to amaze me how some can never be happy with anything Star Trek if it isn’t exactly as they have imagined it in their little head.

69. SuperDeanio - April 16, 2012

Was bored, made this

70. Jay - April 16, 2012

#65 I don’t know. Do they? So many people complain about these set photos looking so “lame” or that based on these photos they think the movie will suck.

It’s like reading one random sentence in a novel and proclaiming that the novel sucks.

No one can look at this pic, or the others, and have any idea of what is going on, or make any statement as to the quality of the movie or story.

71. Jay - April 16, 2012

#65 I’m wondering, what about the costumes are you concerned with?

Most of the photos have shown, what I completely expected to see, the same basic costumes from the 2009 movie.

We have seen, like in this photo, a couple of “new” costumes, but again, that is completely expected.

To me it doesn’t ruin anything to see these costumes. I guess because I assume that we will only see them for a few minutes on screen, and I will be much more concerned with what is happening in the scene than the cosume the actor is wearing.

72. Orb of the Emissary - April 16, 2012

mmmm, glowing codpiece on Zachary Quinto…

73. Bruce Banner - April 16, 2012

The Greek God Apollo returns and tells them they must throw a virgin into a volcano to satisfy his wrath. He neglects to tell the crew that the virgin cannot be wearing a volcano proof suit, so its Spock to the rescue.

74. Ryan - April 16, 2012

Looks like Spock gets pushed/falls into the volcano. The suit may be for reflecting heat.

75. draderman - April 16, 2012

@ 68 LOL

76. Remington Steele - April 16, 2012

At 39 seconds you can see the footgage of spock in this scene and how it will look in CGI…..

77. CmdrR - April 16, 2012

68 — excellent. Now add in a nubile Meg Ryan.

78. mojomonkey - April 16, 2012

He’s totally mind-melding with V’ger here ;)
Or delivering space-pizza.

79. draderman - April 16, 2012

You guys are totally missing the biggest spoiler of all from this pic! If you compare this photo to the photos leaked previously, you can easily deduce the main villain of the movie.

EVIL POST-IT NOTES!

80. Mr. Pizzaman - April 16, 2012

One thing’s for sure:

85. Leen - April 16, 2012

Great, now I can’t see the movie- I have a severe phobia of volcanoes! Not even kidding, I can’t watch movies like Dante’s Peak and Volcano! without freaking out. Damn volcanos! Even the word makes me cringe…

86. Aurore - April 16, 2012

Interesting.

A… leaked photo?
I personally think that we were supposed to see that picture.

Well, at least, someone is working on that set…There’s the proof.

:)

87. jr - April 16, 2012

If ths volcano is on Vulcan, should we not refer to it as NEW Vulcan?

88. Christopher Roberts - April 16, 2012

Hmmm. Looks like a bad photoshop positioning of Quinto’s face…

89. Commodore Mike of the Terran Empire - April 16, 2012

I sense a Bob Orci lurking around here.

90. Joel1245 - April 16, 2012

I laughed when I saw this picture. Quinto looks….uncomfortable. ha ha!

91. Dr. Cheis - April 16, 2012

I think it’s worth remembering that the final outfit will have special effects and will look different and much cooler than this.

92. Paul - April 16, 2012

I hate new Star Trek !!!!

93. Azrael - April 16, 2012

@92. Then piss off troll.

94. Garak - April 16, 2012

Mr. Bob Orci, it seems that Spock is doing action sequences more than in Star Trek. It would be something different from what we saw in the original series. I like. For me, Spock is a diferent Vulcan because he is half-human, so, he must sometimes react according to his human nature.

95. TrekMadeMeWonder - April 16, 2012

My guess is that he is carrying Red Matter in the case.

Spock is trying to stop Vulcan’s demise by traveling to the past and stopping the Nero drill with abother dose of Red matter.

We did not get to see what Spock did while he was using Spock-Prime’s Time Ship in ST09.

You see. Spock has to mate on the planet OR HE WILL DIE. That’s from Bone’s own mouth.

Put yourself in his place. Would’nt you do the same?

96. John E. Kirk - April 16, 2012

Nomad’s body. That’s what it is.

97. EM - April 16, 2012

This must be the scene where Anakin gets all burnt up and the Emperor makes him into Darth Vader!

98. Dee - lvs moon' surface - April 16, 2012

;-) :-)

99. NuFan - April 16, 2012

Cool

100. Shilliam Watner - April 16, 2012

This doesn’t look like Ironman to me at all. And I won’t judge it now, because once it’s in the film, and effects have been added, it’ll probably look quite different.

101. TrekMadeMeWonder - April 16, 2012

Gotta tell ya’. Quinto must really be into his character this time. There is absolutely NO emotion in his face in that image.

102. Spockanella - April 16, 2012

I’m goin’ to the disco with my Mary Kay makeup kit.

103. Shilliam Watner - April 16, 2012

Oh, I forgot to say:

100th!

104. NCM - April 16, 2012

I think the suit looks ridiculous, but I’m confident I’ll love the scene.

Do we really think the photo snatcher only got one shot? Off in search or more Spock!

105. MJ - April 16, 2012

I’ve got admit — THIS LOOKS FREAKING COOL !!!!!

106. kc8jsf - April 16, 2012

If Spock is falling at a high rate of speed into a volcano, then Chekov can beam him out.

107. Jonboc - April 16, 2012

I’m diggin’ the nod to the spacesuits of TOS….and diggin’ even more that Spock is diving into a feaking volcano! Nice.

108. Magic_Al - April 16, 2012

“Sometimes I wonder if these guys remember that Star Trek is also about some guy named KIRK…”

Sounds like something Shatner might have thought when he saw the bags of fan mail in Nimoy’s dressing room. ;-)

109. Trekker5 - April 16, 2012

#86,Aurore,first off, long time no see my friend! :) How’s France? Anyway,I understand what you mean by knowing somebody’s at work,it feels like it’s been 3 eons since we’ve been given anything good. But,I guess it’s as they say,no news is good news. I also agree with you on the pic, looks a bit…oh,I don’t know, posed.

110. Sebastian S. - April 16, 2012

“Airlock four has been opened…. a thruster suit ees reported meesink!”

;-P

111. VZX - April 16, 2012

Haha. JJ’s like: “made ya look”

I smell a purposeful leak. It smells like lilac.

112. Sebastian S. - April 16, 2012

111.

Agreed. Most likely an intentional leak.
There’s no such thing as bad press… ;-)

113. CarlG - April 16, 2012

Looks like a cross between the TOS space suits and the Generations skydiving suit, interesting.

114. Keachick - rose pinenut (F) - April 16, 2012

#95 – Prime Spock did not travel in any kind of time ship. The ship he travelled was a small, fast, very manoeuverable vessel designed for the express purpose of delivering to the supernova a red matter into its core in order to destroy it by causing it to implode. The ship was the Jellyfish, not the TARDIS!

115. ST fan - April 16, 2012

Found an extra pic! People shouldn’t judge the upcoming movie just by one picture! This looks spectacular, and I’m pretty sure we can trust J.J. Abrams to make a great Star Trek sequel!

Nice video! Great catch… ;-)

119. DeShonn Steinblatt - April 16, 2012

115.

Wow, I never thought I would ever hear anyone in the media say the words “Star Trek” and “most anticipated” in the same sentence!

120. ST fan - April 16, 2012

Well Star Trek IS the most anticipated movie….For Trekkies!

121. Sebastian S. - April 16, 2012

#120 ST fan

Yes, but judging from the last movie’s box office (as well as some of my friends and my own sister) they brought a LOT of converts into the fold as well….

122. ST fan - April 16, 2012

Yep, the box office numbers will most likely be doubled from the last movie! Hoping for a midnight premier!

123. Jonathon - April 16, 2012

That is one damn ugly suit.

124. dmduncan - April 16, 2012

Photo makes me hear Shiny Toy Guns’ version of Major Tom.

125. dmduncan - April 16, 2012

Wherever he’s off to, I hope Spock makes it back okay!

126. ST fan - April 16, 2012

It’s fun to see the actors enjoy what they’re doing. lol You can tell they are putting there time and effort into this! Hoping the villans’ not going to be Kahn!

127. ST fan - April 16, 2012

125,
I know right! We already saw a shot where Uhurah rescues him from Cumberbatch….. Almost seems like he’s the main character lol. Which I wouldn’t mind! :)

128. mr. trek77 - April 16, 2012

mr. vulcan, is a vulcano-man ….hehehe….bad joke….

now we know why they called them VULCANIAN is TOS…..hehehe…another bad joke :-)

or he is VULCANIAN VULCAN FROM VULCAN…….another crazy joke….sorry, no more for today …..

129. ST fan - April 16, 2012

Mr. trek77……
Not funny, Spock is Amazing!

130. Buzz Cagney - April 16, 2012

#108 Shat did ok ;)

I’m sure PineKirk is doing something pretty darned exciting while we are getting led around by the nose over all these Spock pix.

131. It's Paramount - April 16, 2012

You people do realize what we are seeing is a scene set on a newly forming volcanic planet called Genesis.

132. Anthony Thompson - April 16, 2012

The Captain’s hhair that Pine is sitting on looks a LOT more TOS than the one in ’09! And the color scheme behind him looks less ‘white’. I like it!

133. Anthony Thompson - April 16, 2012

That’s ‘chair’. : )

134. It's Paramount - April 17, 2012

What do you all think of Spocks shoes in the pic? Should they be changed to boots to seal up the suit legs?

135. SirMartman - April 17, 2012

Spok must be looking for irk

136. mr. trek77 - April 17, 2012

nr. 129 : thanx !!!!

I admire nimoy´s spock , he is the best of startrek.

:-)

137. Aurore - April 17, 2012

109. Olivia.

Hi! It’s very nice to hear from you!
I’m fine, thank you.

I agree; “no news is good news”, or so I like to believe since I do not have a problem with the secrecy* surrounding the sequel.

Nevertheless, and, although I could be wrong, I think some of that secrecy might be staged…to make it ( the shooting ) more intriguing than it really is.

Such a technique, if indeed there is any, is working wonders for me.
For, before the building of a wall around a Star Trek location shoot recently, my expectations, regarding the next Star Trek, were high.

They are now “through the roof”!

:))

*I’ll welcome any spoilers and/or “leaked” photos anytime, though…

138. mr. trek77 - April 17, 2012

And I just could´nt resist to joke about words and sentence !!

139. Spock/Uhura Admirer ;-) - April 17, 2012

To infinity and beyond, and then back into Uhura’s arms. :-)

140. Darkowski - April 17, 2012

In you face J.J. !

No “Wall of Secrecy” is too high for us :-P

141. Trekker5 - April 17, 2012

#137,Aurore,I don’t really have a problem with the secrecy either,I just get tired of waiting some time. And I agree with your thinking that some of it may be staged;I’m glad your expectations are now through the roof. :) Mine are too,I think they always have been, ever since I saw the first movie, which I had no expectations for. And I also agree with you about the pics, spoil me rotten!! :) :)

142. Bird Of Prey - April 17, 2012

Given that they misspelled Spock’s name (who is that even POSSIBLE??), I wonder if they also thought the term “Vulcan” means “volcano”.

” A Volcano/Vulcan is somehow involved in this scene.” Well, duh! :-D

143. ST fan - April 17, 2012

this scene will look amazing once they add the special effects!

144. Loran Alan Davis - April 17, 2012

#132
Anthony, what are you talking about? Is there a leaked photo of Pine in the captain’s chair?

145. Jay - April 17, 2012

#94 I wouldn’t make that assumption.

We have seen photos from 2 scenes where Spock is doing some action. If you had seen a photo of Spock and Kirk fighting on the bridge, and Spock running through the caves on Vulcan trying to save his mom, then you would have seen the exact same amount of “action” photos of Spock from the 2009 film.

So, you can make the leap and say that Spock has more action scenes in this movie than the last based on 2 sets of photos.

146. Dr. Image - April 17, 2012

This week on Gold-Pressed Latinum Rush: Spock probes deeper than ever into the Glory Hole…

147. La Reyne d'Epee - April 17, 2012

It must be fun hanging about & getting dropped 10 storeys for about, oh, 10 minutes.

After two hours, the novelty starts to wear off.

After 16 hours, other things start wearing off and the suit chafes in all sorts of places…

148. Anthony Thompson - April 17, 2012

144. Loran Alan Davis

At the end of the YouTube video posted by 115, there is a shot of Pine in a TOS-inspired Captain’s chair.

149. It's Paramount - April 17, 2012

@ Anthony Thompson.

No, That is a pic of Kirk sitting in the Captains chair during the Kobyashi Maru test during the 09 film. Notice the uniform?

150. Frederick - April 17, 2012

I have to say that picture makes Quinto looks ridiculous. He looks like the suit is too big for him, and when it is suspended by wires, he is sinking down in the suit until he can hardly see out of the helmet. Hopefully the actual scene won’t make him look so silly.

151. Anthony Thompson - April 17, 2012

149.

OK, thanks for the info.

152. Anthony Thompson - April 17, 2012

150.

The helmet is extra tall so we can see Spock’s hairdo. : )

153. Kirk, James T. - April 17, 2012

Bet Abrams is PISSED… What I don’t understand is that these photos seem to be coming from someone inside the set…

154. Picard's Fish - April 17, 2012

In Search Of… Horta!

155. Jay - April 17, 2012

#153 I’ve said that before, but no one paid attention.

The other pics were shot from angle that would make it impossible for someone to be far away using a high powered lens. If the those photos were taken from the same position and elevated I would agree, but they were taken from different positions around the set and from an angle that suggested the photographer was below the set. I find it very hard to believe that someone could have gotten those pics from a great distance without something getting inbetween them and the set, unless JJ was so stupid as to shoot in a open parking lot with no barreirs at all.

156. Lt. Bailey - April 17, 2012

Lets do some speculation…. maybe that device is a Red Matter Quantum Reversal Enabler made by our favorite Prime Universe Vulcan and given to the the new time line Vulcan to return the planet Vulcan to its rightful place in the Galaxy…and the UFP.

Thats my guess and it sounds good to me to go with until I see the film. However, I have no doubt that there will be countless spoilers between now and May 2013.

157. TrekMadeMeWonder - April 17, 2012

114. Keachick

Agreed. My Rejeck.

For some reason I walways thought it was a time ship.

Well then just how is Spock going to get his Vulcan on?

158. Peter Loader - April 17, 2012

Here’s a theory Spock has to disarm a device Section 31 has planted inside a volcano to destroy a peace conference taking place on the Tholian home world or one another planet selected for the conference.

159. lostrod - April 17, 2012

#149:

“No, That is a pic of Kirk sitting in the Captains chair during the Kobyashi Maru test during the 09 film. Notice the uniform?”

Too bad. That chair and bridge looks better than the actual Enterprise bridge set.

Regards.

160. Adolescent Nightmare - April 17, 2012

If you look closely you can see that he is shouting

Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!

as he falls.

161. Jenna - April 17, 2012

I wonder if they are solving some of their secrecy problems by filming at night (or they just need darkness)? Simon Pegg tweeted the other day that he had gotten home from work at 2 or 3 the night before, and then tin he brand new part 2 of the Alice Eve interview she referred to working really really late at night. Hmmm.

162. Gary Makin - April 17, 2012

49 – Apparently Star Wars has a copyright on volcanic planets as well as ice planets, desert planets, etc.

163. Khan was Framed! - April 17, 2012

He is assesing the geolocial conditions of Ceti Alpha before marooning Khan there.

PS- that’s the fakest photo I’ve ever seen.

164. Phil - April 17, 2012

Star Trek/Avengers crossover. About as plausible as Khan at this point.

165. Phil - April 17, 2012

The box looks like a dog carrier. Star Trek: Portho’s Voyage Home.

Also as plausible as Khan…..

166. Phil - April 17, 2012

Maybe a cat box, sent by Data from the future? Star Trek: See Spot Time Travel.

Also as likely as Khan….

167. Jim Nightshade - April 18, 2012

Vulcanraker?

168. Hodge Podge - April 18, 2012

Looks like the space suit from Sunshine. http://weirdonlineauctions.blogspot.co.uk/2007/04/sunshine-space-suit-prop.html

If you haven’t seen that film, it’s a obviously a massive influence to JJ Abrams when he was making the first one- lots of shininess in space. I wonder if anyone has asked him that…

169. Aurore - April 18, 2012

141. Olivia.

“…I’m glad your expectations are now through the roof. :)”
_______________

Yes.

I like that ; my position as a fan is, in my opinion, far more enviable than “theirs” .

After all the secrecy, the wall building, not to mention the occasional photo leaking, if the movie ended up being average, it would be a shame…

:)

170. Jack - April 18, 2012

168. I was super-looking-forward to Sunshine, and then it kind of turned into standard horror movie in space fare. Looked good though.

Hey, and Jay, about the costumes. I just like to see things for the first time as they’re meant to be seen. It looks like some of the Starfleet variants have different boots (there’s a buckle I hadn’t noticed before), that sort of thing. Totally minor. I’d rather see them onscreen or in the usually pretty unrevealing promo shots/EW covers etc. It’s totally just me (I usually try to avoud them, in this case, I thought I’d just be seeing that face shot — (apparently I’ve never been to a website before), but it’s like sneaking a taste of a dish when the meat is still raw and half the ingredients haven’t been added. I know, intellectually, that it’ll be gussied up like crazy, but, yep, for now it looks lame, and that worries me (irrationally).

171. Jack - April 18, 2012

PS. The folks complaining about secrecy — heck, the cast of the avengers has pr flacks with them for interviews and they have to check with them first before answering questions. Having mispent my youth on rumour/spoiler sites, well, I’m just hoping to go into this thing knowing as little as possible. But I don’t have the willpower to not come here. :)

172. Jack - April 18, 2012

Oops. I said that already (sorry, I lost a few comments lately and don’t know what’s made it up… I suck).

173. Dunsel Report - April 18, 2012

“I’ve got some stuff that could tranquilize an active volcano.” — Dr. McCoy

174. VZX - April 19, 2012

Heh: “Great Wall of Secrecy” Nice.

Not for nothing, but can we get at least an announcement of when there will be a teaser and/or trailer?

175. Brock's Spain - April 19, 2012

Volcano. . . is it possible the Horta may make an appearance?

176. DiscoSpock - April 19, 2012

#102 – Right on! We’re thinking in the same groove, man. As soon as I saw this photo, I thought, “It’s Disco Spock!”

hehehe…I’m inspired.

177. Norbert - April 19, 2012

Yes. Memory Wall was my first thought also.

178. MJ - April 22, 2012

@168 “Looks like the space suit from Sunshine.”

Dude, perhaps it may be time to update that eyeglasses prescription? ;-)

179. DS9 IN PRIME TIME - April 23, 2012

Bob Orci leaked it!

180. Mark - April 24, 2012

Post #95. I think you are on the correct track. It’s not a volcano. Spock has gone back in time to the moment the the drill blasted a hole in the planet Vulcan to drop in the red matter. Do’t ask why not earlier, it’s for drama. He will catch the red matter in the ant-grav box he has, and save Vulcan.

181. Gord - April 28, 2012

Can you say “Tholins”.., think thats how it spelled
