Star Trek Enterprise Coming To Blu-ray – Help Choose The Box Art November 12, 2012

by Matt Wright , Filed under: DVD/Blu-ray,ENT , trackback

While CBS still hasn’t come out and issued a press release confirming that the most recent Star Trek series is on it’s way to Blu-ray, today the official Trek site confirmed  Star Trek Enterprise is on the way in 2013. Not only that, but they are asking fans to help choose box. More details below.

Help Chose Box Art For Enterprise on Blu-ray

CBS has already issued the the entire original Star Trek series on Blu-ray and next month they will release the second season of Star Trek: The Next Generation, but many fans have wondered when the most recent series was getting the Blu-ray treatment. Unlike TOS and TNG, Enterprise (which ran for four seasons between 2001 and 2005) was shot and broadcast in HD, so it didn’t need to be remastered. The first hint that Star Trek: Enterprise was headed to Blu-ray came from writer/producer Mike Sussman who in October sent out a tweet saying he recorded an interview for the special feature.

Today the official Star Trek website announced a Help Choose The Enterprise Blu-ray Cover Art Facebook page. The posting on StarTrek.com noted that Enterprise will "beam its way onto Blu-ray next year. Click below for the three possibilities on Facebook.

CBS has yet to issue an official press release announcing Enterprise on Blu-ray and so far they are not providing any more details on the upcoming sets but from Sussman’s tweet we should expect them to contain new interviews.

TrekMovie will provide an updates on this exciting project when they are avaialble.

Ready for the 22nd Century in HD?

Sound off below and in our new poll on Enterprise on Blu-ray.

I love the last episode with Riker in want to see him again in another series hopefully Titan !!!!

2. Nx01 - November 12, 2012

What no Deep Space Nine?

3. Aatrek - November 12, 2012

@ #2

‘Enterprise’ was filmed in HD, so it makes sense that it’s being released now, since there’s not much effort needed to get it to Blu-ray, and they can cross-promote it with the TNG releases. It doesn’t really have a bearing on DS9/Voyager Blu-rays since it’s basically ready to go as-is.

4. sean - November 12, 2012

#2

If TNG keeps selling well, they’ve already said DS9 is coming up.

5. MJ (The Original) - November 12, 2012

If CBS thinks ST fans are going to spend $80 per season for this weak-ass series, they have a big surprise coming. If they put the entire series (all seasons) together in one package, I might consider paying $39.95 for that, but not a penny more.

6. Commodore Adams - November 12, 2012

@ Nx01 I am sure DS9 will follow suit once TNG is finished with VOY last. Since Enterprise was filmed in HD with the last two seasons being filmed digitally as opposed to the first two on film, I was expecting Enterprise to be the first on blu-ray but due to rating I guess CBS/Paramount decided to wait. But I’ll be picking this up on launch day, its one of my fav trek series, it was so fresh and unique, can’t wait.

7. Nx01 - November 12, 2012

Thank you 3 and 4. I stand corrected. Nice to know I can learn something new from fellow fans.

8. Sean4000 - November 12, 2012

Koji Kuramuras Defiant is going to put the entire TOSR project to shame!

9. Legate Damar - November 12, 2012

1-Are you kidding? These Are the Voyages may have been the worst episode of Enterprise, if not the entire Star Trek franchise. Demons and Terra Prime made a perfect finale for Enterprise, and there was no good reason to add a TNG holodeck episode with a clearly aged Riker and Troi that pointlessly killed off Trip.

10. Legate Damar - November 12, 2012

11. CmdrR - November 12, 2012

Tripp should be on the cover art. The producers made a conscious effort to emphasize Archer/T’Pol/Tripp… though, honestly, it’s not as successful a triad at Kirk/Spock/McCoy.

I could have forgiven the finale, except for the pointlessness in Tripp’s death. Give the guy a bridge at least. Jeez.

12. Phobos - November 12, 2012

Finally! Can’t wait.

I have not bought TNG on BR yet because I am scared I will get an old box with bad audio tracks. Is there a way to know?

13. Jonboc - November 12, 2012

As long as its streaming in HD on Netflix, I wont have to buy it. But it is my favorite of the Berman-verse.

14. Aatrek - November 12, 2012

@ 12

The corrected TNG S1 Blu-ray sets have a little Starfleet emblem on the spine of the case, and the UPC code on the back is yellow (the original releases are white).

15. NX-17000 - November 12, 2012

@1. Sorry man, I hate to rain on your parade, but I agree with #10. Of all the series finales, Enterprise’s was by FAR the worst. (I’m even including TOS in this, though they didn’t really have a finale) In theory, yes it had potential, and by that I’m refering to the idea of the forming of the coalition of planet/UFP whichever it was. Enterprise as a whole was a great series, but the finale ruined it for me. I don’t get why they did that stuff, from pulling Riker and Troi in, to killing Tucker. By pulling Riker in, and centering part of the show around him, you basically turned it into a TNG episode with a short wrap up of Enterprise. All in all, the worst finale, and possibly one of the worst episodes in Star Trek as a whole

16. Melllvar - November 12, 2012

@5
Just because you don’t like it certainly doesn’t mean it won’t sell. I for one think Enterprise was awesome! Temper your certainty sir, your opinion may not be representative of the masses…

17. Bucky - November 12, 2012

“These Are the Voyages…” kinda plays better if you pause and flip back and forth between that and “The Pegasus”. It’s really just a supplementary story to that other one. (Most of the “TATV” basically takes place before the 30 minute mark of “Pegasus”)

18. switcher - November 12, 2012

I’ve got season one of ST:Enterprise on DVD… amazing they never show reruns of it. If they ever do, people will find out what they missed.

19. MJ (The Original) - November 12, 2012

@16 “@5 Just because you don’t like it certainly doesn’t mean it won’t sell. I for one think Enterprise was awesome! Temper your certainty sir, your opinion may not be representative of the masses…”

No offense, but “the masses” did not watch the show, hence the premature cancellation. And so I would argue that my opinion is much more representative of the masses than yours. And it they price it at $80, I can guarantee you that it won’t sell even 1/3 of the numbers of TNG, or 1/5 of the numbers of TOS.

20. boblablaw - November 12, 2012

I don’t really care about 99% of this series. I’d watch the TOS-themed eps (season 4, and especially the one with the Defiant), but the first 2 seasons were pure crap.

21. MJ (The Original) - November 12, 2012

@20. Well said!

22. Red Dead Ryan - November 12, 2012

I like “Enterprise”. It took awhile to get going, though. Seasons three and four are great.

Anyway, the season sets, ideally, should be no more than $45 each. They don’t need any new effects, or remastering of any kind. It should be pretty easy to transfer to Blu Ray.

And yes, I hope “Deep Space Nine” gets the same treatment.

23. sean - November 12, 2012

#18

Syfy showed Enterprise reruns for forever. I think people have had plenty of chances to figure out if they like it or not.

24. Phobos - November 12, 2012

@14 Aatrek
Thanks. I might go to FutureShop tomorrow. I will be looking for the yellow UPC.

25. Pointing Out The Obvious - November 12, 2012

I’ll buy this if its reasonably priced… which it won’t be. We’re looking at 80-100 dollars for one season, which is ridiculous.

26. Pointing Out The Obvious - November 12, 2012

@18

Not everyone has SyFy. *pops your everyone lives in the US bubble*

27. sean - November 12, 2012

#26

Oh boy. First of all, no, I don’t assume everyone lives in the US. But most people that use this site are in the US. That aside, there are numerous networks that showed Enterprise reruns in other countries.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Star_Trek:_Enterprise#Rebroadcasts

28. M.J. (Mark James Tucker) - November 12, 2012

Then dont buy it MJ, why come in with your feathers all ruffled, over something that you dont want to buy.
Wait for the price to drop to what you want.
But from your post it sounds like you are not even a fan of the show.

29. name - November 12, 2012

30. name - November 12, 2012

“But most people that use this site are in the US”

Bullshit.

31. M.J. (Mark James Tucker) - November 12, 2012

Damar likes/dislikes are all subjective.
Just cause you think its the worst episode of trek ever made doesnt mean it is. I personally enjoyed the episode, not the best episode of the series mind you , but it was far from the worst, personally Spocks Brain and Displaced were all time lows for Trek, but again thats just MY OPINON.

The problem with this site is to many people deal in absolutes, you dont want to allow for other people to have their own opinons on what is good or bad. Kind of makes it no fun to post on here. perhaps my days here will be numbered and I will stick to sites where people dont jump on you for having an opinon that differs.

32. M.J. (Mark James Tucker) - November 12, 2012

Bobblabla and MJ, again opinons are subjective. just cause you think something is crap doesnt mean everyone else agrees.

Try allowing for the fact that not everyone is going to think the same way.

33. MJ (The Original) - November 12, 2012

Because I am bored and this is all the news we get here — that’s why I provided “MY OPINION”here. Believe me, I would much rather be talking about a sequel news story versus the only really bad Trek series every produced (although Voyager was also pretty crappy).

34. MJ (The Original) - November 12, 2012

“Bobblabla and MJ, again opinons are subjective. just cause you think something is crap doesnt mean everyone else agrees.”

True, but it is a fact that is the only one of the new Trek series that was cancelled because it wasn’t liked by enough people…so, overall, a lot of people out there agree with Bob+ and I.

35. M.J. (Mark James Tucker) - November 12, 2012

29-Name:
Thank the maker, No JJ WARS! though I honestly dont think JJ was even sent the story treatment to pass it over.

36. Gorn Captain - November 12, 2012

How soon people forget UPN didn’t even air in some parts of the country. That had to to hurt the ratings for ENT, and ultimately did the network in as well.

I know people who were downloading episodes simply because there was no other way for them to see the show when it originally aired.

Dudes, vote for cover design 2, with just the ship on it. Its way the best one

39. saavik001 - November 13, 2012

#9 and #10… Totally agree, the Enterprise finale is the worst… At $60 a year of Trek on Blu-Ray, I’ll even get Voyager. But I already have TOS and TNG is on order. I will get Enterprise and DS9 on BluRay of course!

40. I'm a trekkie NOT a trekker TOS=The ONLY Series (worth watching) - November 13, 2012

With all the opinions flying around it’s time for the ONLY ONE THAT COUNTS – MINE!!! TATV was a crappy episode IMOO (In My Over-inflated Opinion). Seriously, tho… “Enterprise” didn’t need a TNG crossover episode to conclude the series. It could have ended very well on its own merit.

41. digginjim - November 13, 2012

TNG takes priority – and I’m going to have to wait an age for that to come down in price enough to be affordable…

42. izmunuti - November 13, 2012

Like Voyager, Enterprise got really good for the last couple seasons. Why did it take Trek series, including TNG, so many YEARS for them to get their stride? It’s too bad. Good thing TOS was great starting with the first season.

43. Mark Lynch - November 13, 2012

Well, I can’t help choose the box art as I do not have a Facebook account and am certainly not creating one just to do this…

I can’t stand FB or indeed any of these social networking sites. But then I am an anti-social bar steward!

44. Mark Lynch - November 13, 2012

@42
TOS started good and got worse…. ;-)

45. Jerry Modene - November 13, 2012

I’ve always found it, um, fascinating, that TOS’s episode quality started going downhill right about the time Desilu was bought out by Paramount. Coincidence?

46. Trekboi - November 13, 2012

MJ your not very original or informed, Enterprise was not syndicated to a wide audience like tng & ds9- UPN was dead & was never widely avalible.
Enterprise had the highest ratings on upn, on par with competitors buffy & smallville- it was canceled due to politics & the merchandise rights that were all affected by the eventual sepration of Treks rights between paramount & cbs.

47. V117 - November 13, 2012

Enterprise Blu-ray= Crap in the highest resolution.

48. Weerd1 - November 13, 2012

I love Enterprise (well, except for These are the Voyages–though the last two minutes with the combined narration is cool), but own all the DVDs. I don’t plan to upgrade to Blu-Ray, but will certainly stream them in Hi-Def.

49. James - November 13, 2012

Pretty snarky message board!

I recently went to Destination Star Trek London and felt sorry for Ron Moore when he talked about how upset highly critical fan reactions made him.

For me, I enjoyed season 1 and 4 of Enterprise – but the other seasons had their moments. As TV goes, it was pretty good – unlike a lot of the other dross out there:

http://ryesofthegeek.wordpress.com/2012/11/09/the-sins-of-ncis/

Compared to a lot of TV shows, Enterprise was cogent and well written – and I for one miss having a Star Trek show on TV.

50. Emperor Mike of the Empire - November 13, 2012

I hope they Re do Star Trek The Animated Series and remake it and put it on Blu-Rey

51. Silvereyes - November 13, 2012

#34 MJ (The Original)

You don’t really need to affix (The Original) to your name mon ami. There’s no ambiguity with M.J. If he wanted to sockpuppet you he would have used your exact name, with no periods. Although your paranoia is understandable with all the sockpuppeting bullshit going on on this runaway train they call a website, your posts are usually quite recognizable as being from you since, well, you are inimitable! (no sarcasm intended)

52. George Zip - November 13, 2012

FWIW, I picked the shield style. The first two (The Cast, and then the “burning ENTERPRISE” one) look like every other box cover I come across. I truthfully only want Season 4, when IMO the series finally got some legs as it were, but will be happy to see it available in Blu.

(Hearing impaired, so streaming isn’t an option; I know the BDs will have subtitles so that’s the way I need to go.)

53. Lens Flares Suck - November 13, 2012

Well, I’ll be darned. I guess you can polish a turd.

54. Captain John C Baron - November 13, 2012

I bought every season of each series on DVD about four years ago. Previous to that I had every episode of every series on VHS tape (you know, when you used to buy a couple of eps for the same price you can now get an entire season on DVD).

I’m afraid this cow has been well and truly milked – I simply don’t have the cash to buy again and again and again (much as I might like to).

55. Star Trek - November 13, 2012

The worst show.

56. Efren - November 13, 2012

What does bob orci think about enterprise?

57. Efren - November 13, 2012

Bob question for you hope you can answer it. Did you feel pressure to maintain a flow with all the movies you done? Especially with star trek and the rest on your plate? How do you feel about enterprise?

58. Toonloon - November 13, 2012

I really, really wanted to like ENT. I thought the characters and cast were much more interesting than VOY. But the scripts still felt like the same old same old, except with a change of terminology.

I actually started to like/love ENT in it’s last season and almost wished they got cancelled after season 3 because in season 4 we saw what the show should have been about from the start.

59. AJ - November 13, 2012

One problem with ENT is the character of Archer. He was kind of this Clark Kentish “golly!” wuss-bag with a dog who enjoyed volleyball. Then, after season two, they wrote they were going to re-boot him as more aggressive and ‘darker.’ He kinda went back to being a wussy mid-way through the Xindi arc, but seemed fine when the great season 4 (TATV excluded) found a way to bring it all together.

60. Lens Flares Suck - November 13, 2012

Agree on Archer. Way too much of a SNAG (sensitive new-age guy).

61. Rose (as in Keachick) - November 13, 2012

#29 – How do you know that most of the people who visit and maybe post on this site are not from North America, mainly the US?

We only have any idea of who comes here by who posts comments here and if they say where they come from. I can think of one or two from Brazil, one from NZ, a couple from the UK, one from France but the rest and, also the most frequent posters, come from North America.

62. Christopher Roberts - November 13, 2012

57. I believe Bob Orci once expressed the thought “Rocket Man” would’ve made a better theme tune, than “Faith of the Heart”.

63. Christopher Roberts - November 13, 2012

I went with the shield (Enterprise patch design actually). Very iconic with lensflares, like the 2009 film.

Although they ought to vary the crew member on the left. Have Phlox, T’Pol and Trip for the other seasons. If not pair them off per cover a bit like this…

(apologies for my lack of photoshop blending skills)

The ship one is my second favourite… even though it looks more like it’s crashing and burning! ;)

Seems to be in the lead at the mo, that.

Not a fan of this one. Seems the least inspired, floating head & should shots against planets, and the colours wash everything out.

64. Lt. Bailey - November 13, 2012

We like the ENT series and have no problem with purchasing it on Blu-ray. If others do not like ENT for what ever reason, thats fine with me. I do not care for VOY (except for 7 of 9) but I do not go trashing other people who do like it. Our circle of friends talk about all aspects of Trek and what we like, so what if it is a different opinon, thats the beauty of Trek.

65. steve - November 13, 2012

TOS remastered on blu-ray: bought it, love it.
DS9 on blu-ray: will buy on day 1.
Voyager on blu-ray: definitely would buy
Enterprise on blu-ray: would buy the Xindi season only
TNG on blu-ray: you couldn’t pay me to own it.

66. Chris Roberts - November 13, 2012

Sorry. For some reason #64 is back again now. Both 63 and 64 can be deleted if there’s a mod, or anyone other than spam filter reading this.

67. Ensign RedShirt - November 13, 2012

In a franchise as long-running and varied as Trek, it’s clear we’re all going to have our favorites. Personally, I Ioved Trek up to and including DS9, and then drifted away, only occasionally checking in on VOY or ENT(although I did enjoy the final year). Everything began to feel the same.

For those who really want DS9 on Blu Ray – hope that the TNG sets sell really well. I think VOY is a longshot to ever see the conversion treatment.

68. Ben - November 13, 2012

Yay! I’m gonna buy all ENT BluRays for sure!
Fingers crossed for lots of extras and bonus material.
Too bad there’s no Romulan War Season 5 or mini series though.

70. Riker's Mailbox - November 13, 2012

During season’s 1 and 2, I was hoping the ship got destroyed. I could not stand watching Captain Archer’s ignorance and ineptitude on a weekly basis. Seriously, the man was an idiot and often came off as an adolescent child. This was the best Captain Earth could provide? I don’t blame Scott Bakula of course. He was just so poorly written for.

Thank goodness Manny Coto stepped in and gave Archer’s character some dignity and self-respect.

71. Craiger - November 13, 2012

Enterprise should have been about the Romulan War and the how the Federation got formed. I think Berman and Bragga were to afraid to write the RW because of maybe screwing up and letting a Human see a Romulan. I wonder if that was a mistake in Balance of Terror and maybe the Romulans shouldn’t have looked like the Vulcan’s. I know they did it for dramatic effect and and Stiles not liking the Vulcan’s when he found out they looked the same and his relative was lost during the RW.

72. Craiger - November 13, 2012

I forgot to add the dates for Enterprise should have been 2154 to 2161.

73. Rose (as in Keachick) - November 13, 2012

My post has disappeared – the second one today…LOL

To all posters here – Aurore (forgive me if it was not her) mentioned that it is not so easy to trace imposters etc because people can change pseudonyms and email/ISP addresses when they post. Is that an actual or is it an assumption? We know that people can use different (pseudo) names but can anyone post a comment here using any email address they care to make up etc? Has anyone tried it?

Guess what – I, Rose/Keachick CANNOT. I am able to use only one email address and am not able to post here using my NZ ISP email account address since 12 August 2012. I can use the NZ address anywhere else on the internet, only a US gmail address; no other. I am pretty pissed off about it actually.

Let’s see how long this post stays on the board…:)

74. Rose (as in Keachick) - November 13, 2012

Edit: meant to write – “Is that an actual FACT…”

79. Dom - November 13, 2012

I might pick up season four. When ENT seasons three and four were running, Battlestar Galactica was going full throttle, showing up Berman’s Treks as safe, pedestrian and old-fashioned, so I just can’t get all that excited about it!!

Possibly the last two seasons

84. Rose (as in Keachick) - November 13, 2012

Oh dear, the Red Dead RYANNE can’t read a concise, well constructed post, otherwise his Royal Numbskull would know that I have not been able to post comments here using my NZ email address since 12 AUGUST 2012 – as in THIS YEAR, not last year.

Initially voted for Option 3 (the metal shield) as the cleanest and consistent with TOS & TNG Blu ray art.

But added another tactical vote to Option 2 (crashing & burning starship).

Anything to deny Option 1 (sheeayte photoshop) from winning!

There damn-well isn’t much in this race though…

im a trekkie who loves the build around the ship enterprise. so i will only get tes, tos, and tng on blu ray. all shows if watched in a row combine their stories. if watch the jj abrams new franchise, it actually started with the old franchise. remember why spock was on romulas? tng will answer that. so yall talk about voyager and deepspace nine, what about the tos cartoon series on blu ray? it fits in the whole trek universe. where do u think kirks middle name came from or if yall are trekkers, after captain archer and before captain pike, remember captain robert april? throw the animated series on blu ray. it explains alot more than what people think and gets overlooked. so do call urselfs trek fans if u dont care about the cartoon.
