Official Promotional Site For Star Trek Goes Live January 16, 2008
by Anthony Pascale , Filed under: Star Trek (2009 film) , trackbackThe official Paramount site for Star Trek just went online a few minutes ago.

New logo and more to come
The new site shows the new official logo for the film with a little intro animation. This is the same logo you will see in the trailer and is based on the Enterprise command emblem from The Original Series. Right now the only other thing functioning on the site is the ability to register for updates. It promises to have forums, but that part ‘coming soon’ as is a webmaster program. The new teaser trailer will likely be available on the site sometime after the opening weekend of Cloverfield. Although the site doesn’t have much now (as the ‘under construction’ notation indicates), it is expected to grow over time.
UPDATE: Site Updated
Online for just a few hours and already the site has a small update. At the bottom it now lists the credits and official synopsis. However it is the same info from Paramount’s 2008 Preview released in early December.
The official movie site located at paramount.com/startrek.
The teaser trailer showing this weekend with Cloverfield will be direct people to StarTrek.com, which will have some kind of link to this promotional site (likely to be implemented by this weekend). This is the same way it was handled with Star Trek Nemesis, except that film’s promotional site was at nemesis.startrek.com.

Yay!
Well, at least it’s got SOMETHING on the site, which is better than no site at all. Forums could be a good thing.
Well, I like the shiny insiginia — same styling, but buffed to a sheen. Maybe like the new movie?. . . Everything old is new again.
No more exact date on the promo stuff. Earlier release most likely. Looks good.
…and so it begins….
Love it!
Oh yeah, the “secret hint” is still in the logo.
Wow, that logo looks very similar to the one at the end of my fan trailer, except silver, rather than gold. Cool.
#4. It does say “Christmas 2008,” which seems pretty exact. . . much as I’d like it to be earlier. In which case it would say “Advent 2008.”
Saweeeet!
Ah,….let us see what we see.
Cool, The webmaster program looks interesting i imagine it promotional program for us webmasters that run Trek sites to help promote the film. There real question is will the site be up fast than someone sticking the teaser on youtube LOL
so who else got a slight chill when the insignia materialized?
Sweet!
#12. I did. What a tribute to Bill Theiss that the ol’ badge still gets a rise out of us after all these decades.
Chilled Sweet!
Star Trek Lives!!
yay! It’s really going to happen.
Totally stoked for this flick.
Here is what you are emailed from Paramount Pictures when you register

STAR TREK
In Theaters Christmas 2008″
#14 amen to that. it’s timeless.
… and the adventure… is to be updated. Soon. :D
Is it December yet?
one yea i remember star trek generations was one of the first movies i remember to have a site, man we have come a long way since then.
lol if even half of the people go the movie site that vist here , i bet they will get 1,000s registers people in a few days , might show paramount people still care about star trek and buzz around the movie
nice logo.
curse you #6 – now I’m looking for that hint.
That logo is not canon…. the curve of the sides is off by a few degrees and the height of the right lower point is wrong by ,005 millimeteres.
I will not see this film.
:) That’s one bad-ass logo for TOS. Little edgier, doncha think?
Peace. Live long and prosper.
The Vulcanista }:-|
Good logo. Very faithful to the original while certainly emanating a contemporary vibe.
[Gives #23 a look of abject terror.]
For the LOVE OF GOD, noooooooooo!
[runs away, screaming, from thread.]
Peace. Live long and prosper.
The Vulcanista }:-|
The page title says:
“Star Trek :: The Official Movie Site :: In Theaters December 25, 2008″
I looked at the source code (hoping for any hidden nuggets) and found the following bit of code interesting:
I find it ironic that they realize the strength of Kirk’s character to the franchise and yet opted not (officially, anyhow…) to include The Shat in any way. I guess I’m just feeling a bit jaded.
Ooh- the code got left out. Lemme try again…
“meta name=”Keywords” content=”Star Trek, Spock, Kirk, JJ Abrams”
I love it when a plans comes together.
Bookmarked!
Well of *course* the metatags include Kirk and Spock. I’m surprised that “Enterprise” isn’t in there as well.
Kirk is in the movie – has quite a big part, in fact. ;)
Would be nice if they add a rss/atom feed.
re: 24. The Vulcanista – January 16, 2008
” :) That’s one bad-ass logo for TOS. Little edgier, doncha think?”
Edgy=Bad
I hate the new website.
It needs a red bridge railing and Shatner.
Otherwise it’s NOT CANNON.
Nice so far…..
#28. No. More. Shat. Involvement. Talk. Please.
No one mentions that the “Under Construction” font is the same typeface as on the NCC-1701 primary hull.
Ok…..not much to see, thus far.
Aww, {{{Stanky}}}… What’s gonna happen when you finally see this flick on free TV and you fall in LOVE with it? ;-)
Peace. Live long and Prosper.
The Vulcanista }:-|
It’s probably not ever going to be cannon. Canon maybe.
Edgy to me = interesting. Stanky, as usual = :(
Jury is out on this site–nothing there yet. But it’s a start and I’m happy to see that.
Signed up. Let’s hope construction continues at a brisk pace!
Anthony how do you think new movie site will compare to yours for news on the movie? Anthony I know on report you said the new site will have a link to it at StarTrek.com but I wonder for how long and if the new movie site will replace StarTrek.com?
Its already better than the “Of Gods and Men” website hahaha.
Cool.
I’m curious if they will go with different insignia for different ships and have this one only for the Enterprise, like they did in TOS (assuming that we get to see people from other ships, which I think is very likely).
I hope they will have more up on the site before the teaser premieres. I’d be disappointed, if I were a regular viewer and went to the trouble of visiting it after seeing the teaser, and there was nothing there except the logo.
So by what time Friday will the pics of the ship be online? Not officially i’m sure but I figured shortly after the cloverfield starts. Nice to finally see an “official” site up but will probably find more info here first!
#38, I was just about to mention that. :D
I don’t see why some of you guys here are oooohing and aaahing about the “new logo;” it doesn’t look any different from the logo used in “The Motion Picture” and the other TOS Movies. *shrugs*
Hmmm. The logo seems to be updated, yet original. Fascinating.
Spiffy. :)
The ‘under construction’ notation does not indicate that the site is under construction. “Under Construction” is the advertising slogan for the movie, per the trailer description.
STAR TREK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
YESS!! Finally, it begins!
Oh boy, a new place to snark and gripe and flame and –
Oh Anthony, you know we all love you best.
Anyway — hope it’s got some cool stuff.
How exciting it will be to see the original E in its orignal form. You and I are much alike, Captain. Both proud of our vessels.

It’s really happening !
Star Trek Lives !

* Who’s going to enjoy this thing even if it kills him ;-) *
YAYYYYYY!!! WOOOOHOOoOoOOoOO!! AHHHhhHHH! I think i might explode! :-D (I’m geeking out….)
“Ten years ago, a television phenomenon became a part of life, shared in 47 different languages, read in 469 publications, and seen by 1.2 billion people. A common experience remembered around the world. Now Paramount Pictures brings the memory to life.”
I always loved this voice over for a TV spot for TMP. Would love to hear an updated version for the new movie down the road.
That cuts it!
I hear that the food replicators are not built according to canon.
I will not see this film.
Uhm, ok.
I did not experience a ‘wave of geek excitement’. I did not get giddy.
Instead, I showed my 2 kids the site.
“Dad?”
Yes, I replied.
“This is cool?”
I nodded.
“How so?”
I hesitated to answer. The history of it all, growing up in the late Sixties, knowing the movies, tv series, books…. How would they understand? They looked confused for a moment, and then I said –
It’s written by the guys who did Transformers!
“Coo-oool”
Nice looking splash page!
#60: That is the most heartwarming anecdote in the history of ever :)
This website was probably constructed here on Earth which means it’s not canon. I’m off to form a suicide pact now.
*geek wank* …sigh… very cool…
Devon – Are you freaking kidding me? Are you serious? The web site was supposed to be constructed in space! Everybody knows that!
Crap!
I’m never going to that web site again! They’re just raping my childhood!
Also noticed the font is the same as that used in the original series ship hull writing. Over-all, this looks promising. It appears classy, respectful and vibrant…all the things needed for a good TOS reboot.
Up on the Trekweb BBS, they are saying that there is no Mugatu in the movie.
That is Not Canon.
Remember: Everytime the Director Violates Trek Canon, God Kills a Mugatu.
Please, think of the Mugatus.
James Jamziz – January 16, 2008
Its already better than the “Of Gods and Men” website hahaha.
Excuse me? What wrong with my site ? STOGAM is not and officialy connected to Paramount. Anywho all in good fun i take it. :)
Section9 – Are you freaking kidding me? Are you serious? There’s no mugatu in the movie!
Stupid freaks!
I’m definitely not going to this movie now. Abrams sucks! Orci sucks!
Much better than the Nemesis site that was out.
“… featuring a young, new crew venturing boldly where no man has gone before.”
Venturing? VENTURING? Why, that’s not canon at all! :)
@60 – this demands a response from Roberto!
And so it begins….
….cue thunder, lightning….
So far, so good!!
In exactly 24 hours, I will be sitting in a movie theater to see Cloverfield and the best part of the movie will be the 30 or so seconds I will get to watch of crewmen building the enterprise.
Can you feel the fiyahh, can you feel da fiyahh getting HOT HOT HOT???
I’m tempted to use a “colorful metaphor” to express my approval. Instead I’ll just agree with essentially everyone here (hilarious thread!)…. Yeah. That will do nicely.
59, 63, 65, 67(!), 69:
LOL! Y’all are fun-NEE tonight!
Peace. Live long and prosper.

Heaven help us.

Funny what it takes to get kids interested in some of our grup stuff.

Waiting. :)
I am SUCH a geekazoid!
I am pumped.
Though I wish it said “where no one” as opposed to “where to man” has gone before. Uhura went too, didn’t she?
Hahah. #68
Sorry about criticizing your site. I just feel it could be better you know. Take a look at my site and you’ll understand why I had high expectations for it.
#76
I’m not trying to be funny, Vulc!
If this movie doesn’t look exactly like the low-budget 60s TV series, I’m not seeing this movie! And if they don’t follow strict canon on everything, even down to the length of Spock’s eyebrows, I will speak out against this movie with every chance I get.
I WILL reclaim my childhood from Paramount, or I will unleash the rage of Gorgon, the friendly angel!
re: 74
“Can you feel the fiyahh, can you feel da fiyahh getting HOT HOT HOT???”
I never thought I would be in a position to be embarrassed for anyone on trekmovie.com. I was wrong. That’s just too much.
OMG, some of you guys are killing me . . . LOL!
#23. diabolk: If you compare the logo to page 25 in the Star Trek Bible, it is exactly .0793 skewed to the right. But if you do a CAT Scan of a real insignia on the uniform of Red Shirt Extra #3 in Episode 47, the righthand leg of the log is exactly .000021 inches too long.
I tried to go to bed an hour ago, but this obvious canon violation is keeping me awake and I just had to get up and let my frustration out. I tripped over my Enterprise-shaped footstool and put on my Mister Spock footies and ran over to my computer (which is sitting next to the furnace here in my Mother’s basement).
I think Gene Roddenberry is rolling in his grave right now, and I have a very, very bad feeling about this new movie. Even though I haven’t seen it yet, I just know THAT IT SUCKS! I just knew they were going to ruin my childhood memories.
This one is going to require a lot of therapy to resolve. I just turned 40 the other day, and I never have touched a girl (but one time, at band camp, there was this girl that was wearing tight shorts, and I looked at her), but none of that compare to this.
Hot damn! Very cool, indeed.
85 Correction: I meant “logo”, not “log.” This Deep Space Nine-shaped mouse causes a lot of typos.
#82 Ur site’s broke.
#38 – I echo that sentiment. I was going to mention it… until I scrolled down to your post. :-)
Old is new again!
Freaking WIN. I can’t wait for this weekend.
anyone else keep hitting the refresh button?
#83
So shall you do, so shall you do, so shall you do.
Peace. Live long and prosper.
The Vulcanista }:-|
#88 I accidentally added an extra w to the URL. My bad.
#83: Just re-reading your post: “reclaim my childhood.”
Spot on, dude. That does seem to be the origin of a lot of the energy here, understandably so.
Peace. Live long and prosper.
The Vulcanista }:-|
For Anthony,
You should use the new logo to freshen up your site banner a bit, we being less than a year away now and all.
Plus, a new trekmovie.com banner with a nice black and glossy finish would do wonders for your street cred!
hey # 12 i had a dorkgasm
re: 79. The Vulcanista – January 16, 2008
“#77 Stanky, even though you and I are polar opposites in our opinions on this movie, I *do* like your style!”
Wasn’t aware I had a style, but thanks!
From what I have seen around where I live, the vast majority of regular people are totally unaware there even IS a movie being made. If I bring it up, most of them have the opinion that remakes with new casts generally are undesirable and/or they have no interest in it at all.
Well, I know what I want for Christmas………….
Remember………
……every time a Mugatu screams, a redshirt gets his wings! :)
Canon Schmanon, I’m looking forward to this.
If nothing else, just to see the Enterprise in space again. I love that ship. It’s my favorite character. It was also one of the better actors in the series.
I am so not the wow film, which has a website. Is the new icon recognizable? yes, however it is not identical, and it is darker than, color. I still am excited. But the website is to be impressively and viisit, but no information about the foreign date or IDO coupon available.
–Manrum
IT’S A FAAAAAAAKEEEEE!!!!!
It is cool that they have a site up, but I will still always come here first for all my movie news. I love you guys!!!!!!
Oh no!!! It’s not radically different! Change! Change! Chaaaaaange….
#60 PRICELESS!
I still feel that a Star Trek without Shatner involved is like a day without…ah…well, it’s just not right.
And I just dont think I am gonna like all these young whippersnappers takin’ over these roles. I hope they are not dropping the f bomb every other word like they do in most new movies now.
Why can’t us old fogies just have our old ‘Trek…?Has Hollywood completely run out of fresh new ideas that they have to remake EVERY single old t.v. show and sitcom…pretty sad.
The sooner they just get the gorram ARG up and running, the better.
What? You seriously think the Abrams Five is going to launch a major movie and -not- have an ARG?
YOU THOUGHT WRONG! (Wrongly? Wrongic?)
A wild guess……could the title of the movie be:
STAR TREK UNDER CONSTRUCTION ????!!!!
Appears to be rushed in time for the trailer.
^
Boy cbs/parmt sure has alot riding on this Abhrams venture.
That they would fire the old staff and give us this shows a complete lack of forsight
THE HUMAN ADVENTURE BEGINS…
or
STAR TREK – THE SEARCH FOR KIRK ? :-)
Pretty good, so far.
Is that what the insignia will look like in the movie?
Well done! Just a drop of water for a thirsty man, but that will suffice.
… and the Shat will be in the movie… ;-)
@97 – Same here – even people who would consider themselves to be movie buffs aren’t all aware of it yet but I think the attitude of the Great Unenlightened (non-trekkies) is that it’s ‘oh, it’s another Star Trek film’ and odds are they won’t be over excited.
So #60 has it spot on, we’re here for the shivers of seeing the logo, hearing the theme and watching for the shadow of the Mugato whereas what will be getting most people excited is “From the people that brought you Transformers, Lost and MI:III*”
Maybe we’ll all meet in the middle…. :-)
(* disclaimer: this in no way is an endorsement of said movie or especially Tom Cruise)
And now, if Abrams is still Abrams, a shadowy viral campaign should be starting.
Re:98
…where did these wings come from?
I like the new logo. Like the film itself, it’s in the dark.
Is anyone else here aware of the extensive viral marketing for the new Batman movie? (I mean, someone here has to be, right?)
Wouldn’t it be BADASS if there was something like that for this new trek movie? There’s still time! Almost a year!
Think of it, Trek online scavenger hunts and hidden starfleet sites all over the web, with new photos and info as an incentive!
Back me up, somebody, please.
#117
The viral marketing for Abrams’ Cloverfield has been massive. In my opinion Abrams’ Trek will not be different.
Good point! I’m looking forward to it.
Looks very Michael Bayish.
What’s a rss/atom feed?
Saw Cloverfield! The Trailer descriptions are right! It was awesome!!!!
Someone post it!!!!
Just saw Cloverfield! The teaser for Star Trek is exactly how it’s been described, the Enterprise looks alot more metallic and shinyer, thought this may just be during construction.
And don’t they usually leave typography until *after* construction :p
Just nitpicking, it was brilliant, came out of nowhere!
TREK IS BACK!!! Yesssssssss!
SO what does the Enterprise look like!?! Is it faithful to the original?
Now please add the Trek-fanfare and I will be one sentimental wreck.
*goosebumps all over*
Simple. Classy. And when I say simple, I mean it in a complimentory “less is more” sort of way. TOS deserves no less. Good job.
Anyone with Photoshop talent come up with a widescreen (1680×1050) desktop of that? I love simple, elegant desktops, and that would make a perfect one. Not to mention stoke my geekiness everytime I boot up. LOL
#84
Really? I find myself embarassed for people on this site quite frequently.
Hmm. Not the somewhat rounded-top Cage shirt emblem, and thankfully not the revisionist Generations combadge squat delta.
Back to the most recognizable shape, for mass-market appeal…
Oh well-
May the jigsaw pieces JJ hath wrought FIT in to the big 40-year picture.
Man for me Trek never left, 4 seasons of Enterprise was upsetting, should have gone for 7, if I find the Trek fans responsible for the low TV ratings of Enterprise………..
Back in time forward in time, I don’t care its all Trek just keep giving me movies and TV series please :)
#131 DAIMYO NINTENDO
The enterprize ended early because of the fan support show, and more giving with is justwhat all the left of me wanting, but here it comes! Hope for much…

How come the Mugato is discussed more than poor Tim Russ whose article only got about 38 posts? :
Wait- that’s it- the Tuvogato! “It is logical for me administer my deadly bite.” Mr. Russ could get in this new Trek just as he has been in all the others! (On “Enterprise” he played rock #4 on the 4th season episoede set on Vulcan)
But I kid Russ… I appreciate his work on OGAM.
Saw Cloverfield last night here in New Zealand when it opened. Was ok. The Trek thing was a teaser more than a trailer. Looked cool though. Had the TOS Enterprise in various stages of construction and a dialog consisting of various historical Aeronautical moments and what I think was Spock towards the end
I would have waited until the trailer’s out, and items are available online before rolling out the web site. The logo looks sharp, and while it is impressive, I can’t see the point in having it there when all you can do is register for updates.
this is very exciting. i cant wait. star trek has come at last.

BRILLIANT!!!
That sound you’re hearing is Gene Roddenberry turning over in his grave.
Damn you, JJ Abrams! This is STAR TREK, not FIREFLY!
You’d do well to keep the two separate.
#132 Manrum,
Are you trying to convey that Enterprise left you wanting more? If so, I agree!
Peace. Live long and prosper.
