TrekMovie is deeply saddened to report that Leonard Nimoy passed away this morning at home in Los Angeles.  He was 83.  His wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, said the cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.  Leonard announced last year that he had the disease, which he attributed to years of heavy smoking decades ago.

The New York Times‘ obituary can be read here.

We’ll have more later.

So very sad. My deepest sympathies to his family and to all my fellow Trek fans.

His was a life well lived, and, I strongly suspect, well examined (by him).

My interest in philosophy and logic specifically was precipitated in large part by Nimoy and his portrayal of Spock. Nimoy lives on due to the positive ripples his life has made in the world.

Thank you, Leonard, for the time you shared with all of us.

I’m sad, it is logical. RIP & thank you, we have been & always will be your fans.

Sad, sad day!

“Of my friend, I can only say this: of all the souls I have encountered in my travels, his was the most… human.”

Very sad, RIP Mr Nimoy

You know he’s really not dead … as long as we remember him.

:((((

Usually when I hear about the death of famous people, I feel sorry for the family and friends of the deceased, but don’t dwell on it.

This, however, feels different. Inexplicably, It feels as if I’ve personally lost someone I know. I suppose it comes with having grown up watching Star Trek endlessly. Plus, it seems like he was a genuinely good, decent man.

Live long and prosper, people.

My thoughts are with his family with all those who knew him.

Even a Vulcan would have a hard time with is emotions today.

For a human…

This really makes me sad and I only knew him through Spock and his interviews, documentaries and word of mouth from fellow fans. His portrayal of Spock brought a richness to this world I really love. It’s sad he’ll never be a part of it again. LLAP and so sorry for his family’s loss.

thanks buddy, for all these years…you made a great impact on my life…..farewell from germany Daniel, will miss you

Very sorry to hear this. Enjoyed his work immensely and his wonderful presence at conventions since the 1970s. What can one say? My best to his family.

Good bye, old friend.

Tonight I will celebrate your life in the most logical way I know how: With an ale and Star Trek binge watching.

“Here’s to ya, lad(s)” – Scotty

Love you Leonard.

Glad I could see you in person here in Brazil in 2003.

You´re the imaginary best friend of a whole civilization.

Rest in peace.

Such sad news… Leonard Nimoy’s Spock was my favourite character, I recall wanting to be just like him. The intelligence, self control, the list goes on.
But there was always a humanity to Spock that was apparent but subtle.
It is a testament to Mr. Nimoy’s acting skills that he gave us a character that is still so loved after almost 50 years.

LLAP

He lived long and prospered.

Meeting him in person back in 2011 at a book signing in Brentwood I was taken back by his humbleness and humility- he was amazing and I enjoyed the few moments of talking we had.

Still can’t believe it’s happened.

As a kid who grew up with Star Trek I guess I was just naive and believed
everyone would just live forever.

LLAP Leonard…….

“A life is like a garden. Perfect moments can be had, but not preserved, except in memory. LLAP” – Leonard Nimoy

Farewell, you will be deeply missed. :(

Someday, if we’re lucky, we’ll evolve to higher plane of intellect and emotional understanding. If we reach that place, we’ll look back and realize that Spock was a beacon, shining a light on the path toward the better people we always had the potential to be. What Gene Roddenberry and Leonard Nimoy have given us in Spock is the template for the best of what humanity is.

Thank you, Mr. Nimoy, for your part in showing us the way. We owe you a debt we can never repay.

RIP, Leonard Nimoy, you will be missed. My thoughts are with his family & friends.

This is a sad day for us all, yet I find comfort from the fact we’re all here to support each other. What ever differences there are, the spirit of Star Trek unites and strengthens.
