Stephen Colbert and JJ Abrams Talk Trek February 15, 2007

by Rick Kelvington , Filed under: Abrams, Humor , trackback

Stephen Colbert has been put on the MasterMedia Int’l Media Leader Prayer Calendar. Each day a different figure in the media is listed for thousands to pray for. JJ Abrams was also on the list and Stephen decided to call JJ to find out how his prayer day went. They also talked about Lost and Colbert made his pitch for a part in a certain Abrams movie…

…by the way, did JJ just confirm for the first time publicly that Star Trek XI will be a prequel?

I think he did indeed! I love how great of a sense of humor he has, too!

I daresay it was confirmed for the first time publicly when Abrams created the Original Series themed advanced teaser poster concept.

That particular Delta shield and uniform colors haven’t been used since TOS.

Could anyone please post a transcript of what he says? For people whose mother-tounge isn’t English, it’s pretty hard to understand what he says.

4. DC - February 16, 2007

i def have to say this…..
he wouldnt make a BAD Dr. McCoy
but not necessarily good either, but def not a bad one

5. Trevok - February 16, 2007

He definatly confermed that it is rumored to be a TOS movie, unfortunatly he didn’t say that it is a TOS movie. Kelvington might make an ok Mc Coy but I’m not sure the picture of JJ from Good Times helped his cause.

Being Internet speed challenged, only having access to a dial up connection I wonder if it would be possible to add a trancript of these interviews as it take us slowpocks around half an hour to download these video files. Thanks.

I’m not sure if I buy him as a Doctor McCoy of any age, but I definitely think Stephen Colbert would easily fit into Star Trek in *some* capacity…

I just have that feeling. :)

Here’s a quick transcript of the JJ part of the interview –

SC: OK, Now I also understand you’re the producer of the new “Star Trek” movie, which is rumored to be a prequel to the original series.

JJ: Yea, we’re looking forward to that.

SC: Well, on my prayer day I hope the tens of thousands of people praying for me ask, that you (JJ) realize that I would make the perfect “Doctor McCoy”. Check this out.

[Holding pen like medical scanner and Colbert makes a very good scanning noise]

SC: [As McCoy] He’s Dead Jim. What do ya think?

[Audience applauds and cheers]

JJ: Yea, um… I, a… I’ll pray on it.

SC: OK

Funny stuff from Abrams….and that Colbert guy, too.

9. DEMODE - February 16, 2007

I don’t see Colbert as McCoy at all, but having him in the movie would be cool.

…And you know he would be bragging about it endlessly on his TV show. That might attract some more people to see the movie…

You guys know he was joking right????

12. Anthony Pascale - February 16, 2007

i am hoping someone will do a greenscreen challenge type of thing and put colbert into a scene replacing the original mccoy

in fact if a loyal trekmovie.com guy wants to do that i will give you the version of this without the logo…i bet that if it is done well he might even put it on the air.

13. DEMODE - February 16, 2007

#11: I think everyone knows he was joking… lol…. :)

14. Robogeek - February 16, 2007

People…

COLBERT WAS JOKING.

Like he is every single moment of every single show.

Relax.

(Though I _love_ Anthony’s idea of a Dr. McColbert Greenscreen Challenge!)
