Full List Of IMAX Theaters Carrying Star Trek + IMAX Trailer April 28, 2009

by TrekMovie.com Staff , Filed under: Star Trek (2009 film) , trackback

One of more exciting things about the new Star Trek movie is that it is also coming out in IMAX (a franchise first). However, the IMAX Experience will be a limited engagement of just two weeks, so you better hurry up. IMAX has sent us their official Star Trek trailer and the official press release with all the theaters that will be running Star Trek, see below for more details.

Star Trek IMAX Trailer
Trailer mixes elements of previously released trailers

Star Trek at 163 IMAX Theaters around the world
Star Trek will open for a special, limited two-week run in 134 IMAX® theatres domestically, concurrently with the wide release on Thursday, May 7 at 7 pm. The film will also open in 29 IMAX theatres internationally. Star Trek has been digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology.

Due to the limited two-week run and strong buzz, IMAX theatres are adding midnight shows to meet the demand during the limited run, some could even end up showing the movie ‘around the clock.’ You can buy IMAX tickets in advance at Fandango and movietickets.com. For more info visit imax.com.

This is awesome stuff!!!

2. The Governator - April 28, 2009

Hmmmm…. Well, the Jacksonville AMC Regency Theater is showing it in IMAX, but its not the best theater in the city. I was planning on seeing it at a better theater, but that theater does not show IMAX. This situation is definitely borderline on RED ALERT. If only I knew what to do.

Hmmmm….

3. MORN SPEAKS - April 28, 2009

I’ve got my ticket for Tampa!!! Can’t wait! If someone takes my seat they’re getting a Vulcan nerve pitch!

4. TyanaZai - April 28, 2009

Excellent Québec is not left out for once!

5. Starfleet06 - April 28, 2009

Yeeaaah Portage 16! Go Hoosier State!

6. DavidJ - April 28, 2009

That’s odd, our IMAX in Sacramento usually carries all the big movies. But not this one?

Oh well. To be honest I never understood the appeal of watching regular movies in this format anyway. Nature documentaries, sure. But when it comes to a fast-paced action movie like this, I’d actually like to be able to FOLLOW what’s going on.

And not walk out with a huge freakin headache afterwards. lol

7. Captain Hackett - April 28, 2009

Ontario

Gloucester – Cineplex SilverCity Gloucester IMAX Theatre!!!

It is near my home! Woooooooohoooooooo Baby!

8. Captain Christpher Pike - April 28, 2009

PFFTTT! Three Imax and one Omnimax theatre in Vancouver and no Star Trek. I’m ashamed. So ashamed…

9. WillardCanada - April 28, 2009

#8
I agree! What the hell!

10. Schtobes - April 28, 2009

Call me crazy, but did they digitally remove that role of duct tape on the helm console?

11. Fansince9 - April 28, 2009

I am MAD at you, Chattanooga! You have an IMAX theatre, but waste it documentaries worthy of the Discovery Channel–at midnight!

12. Marvin the Martian - April 28, 2009

Several days ago, I purchased my tickets to the Burbank IMAX on Friday night. There will be a whole group of us going. It will be total fun!

13. BAILY - April 28, 2009

7.

Captain Hackett I am as well VERY close to SilverCity Gloucester (just a skip and jump away) .. too bad tickets aren’t on sale yet.. I figure they’ll be on sale Friday .. man I cannot wait for this movie!!!

14. Jay El Jay - April 28, 2009

IMAX Manchester Printworks, here we come!!!

15. jonboc - April 28, 2009

IMAX is cool, but its WAY too much “in your face” for my first viewing, especially with today’s “shaky cam-you are there” style of film making. I’d be a frazzled mess by the time it was over! Maybe during the 2nd week.

16. Dr. X - April 28, 2009

Will see it at the Metreon in San Francisco at some point, Watchmen was great on the 8-story screen.

17. Shaun B. - April 28, 2009

I have tickets booked for the 3pm showing on the 7th May at the BFI Imax in London….my first time going to an Imax Cinema, what a way to get started! Can’t wait for next week!!

18. Scott Gammans - April 28, 2009

Already have my tickets booked for 9:45 PM opening night Thursday night at the Airbus IMAX in the Smithsonian Udvar-Hazy Center near Dulles Airport in Northern Virginia… very exciting!!

19. Norm - April 28, 2009

nice…this might be the first movie i’ve seen in IMAX…

20. Enterprise - April 28, 2009

I got VIP tickets to our IMAX screening on the 7th!!

21. captblsisko - April 28, 2009

Holy carp! They’re converting the movie theater 5 minutes from my house (the one we always go to) to an IMAX one!

I’m gonna cry…

22. CarlG - April 28, 2009

The Montreal IMAX is like a 2-minute walk from my work…

Sweeeet.

23. CarlG - April 28, 2009

Just as an aside, those are cool little shuttles/fighters accompanying the Kelvin. Are there any more photos of those?

24. AE-35 - April 28, 2009

#10. Looks like it… It would be six feet in diameter in IMAX…

25. Chadwick - April 28, 2009

Sweet I just bought them cuz it was only today they became available for purchase in Canada.

26. Shadowcat - April 28, 2009

Yes! I brought two tickets on Fandango for the 7:00 pm show on May 7th at the IMAX AMC 24-Aventura Mall. We currently live in Miami Beach and Aventura is much closer than Ft. Lauderdale.

My husband is dying to see Star Trek in IMAX. We are moving to the UK in June and the closet IMAX theater to our new home is Glasgow.

I called the theater today and tickets are selling out quickly in our area I advised all of our family and friends who want to see the movie to buy tickets early.

I cannot wait until May 7th. Woo-Hoo!

27. fatman bruno - April 28, 2009

#10 my god your right!!!
no more duct tape, that must have been one pissed cgi artist who got that job!?!

28. Rusbeh - April 28, 2009

33. Generale le Martok - April 28, 2009

Huntsville??
That’s a two hour drive!
Oh well, I guess I need the practice…

34. Ampris - April 28, 2009

Awesome awesome awesome! And here I thought that there weren’t even any non-museum Imaxes here, and we have two! Heck yeah! Definitely going to watch a regular midnight showing first (or possibly earlier, or possibly both earlier *and* midnight, ha-ha!) and then do Imax, because yeah, I don’t think I would enjoy this as much the first time on a HUGE screen. (With the quick editing shots people are talking about? No ywa.) But this is so EXCITING! Imax! Never thought I’d get to see it that way. =D

35. richpit - April 28, 2009

42. Trekmatt - April 28, 2009

43. braxus - April 28, 2009

What- its not playing in Vancouver BC??! So much for seeing it in IMAX.

44. Trekmatt - April 28, 2009

Just a tv ad in the UK (on sky 3), seemed to be a mixture of the trailers, that’s the second one i’ve seen today, hopefully that means Trek will get more tv ads over here leading up to the 7th/8th.

45. Kris Morey - April 28, 2009

Wow, I’m really grateful I live close enough to Halifax to make the trip now that I see even Vancouver isn’t getting a showing! Seems like it’s going to be a pretty rare thing in Canada. 7 tickets = bought.

46. Robert H. - April 28, 2009

DAMN!!!! Not in Alberta.

I’ll be there at 7 PM next Thursday at Indianapolis – Kerasotes ShowPlace 16 & IMAX. Anyone else going to Indy?

Rob+

53. section9 - April 28, 2009

I’m going to see this either at Aventura in Miami or at the Auto Nation in Ft. Lauderdale. You either see this film in IMAX, or you ARE Reticulan.

54. section9 - April 28, 2009

#49- Can’t you go down to Seattle? Or somewhere in MI, if you’re closer to the Great Lakes?

55. Lythia - April 28, 2009

We have an IMAX here, but they only occasionally run theatrical releases and then only after the mainstream run. I guess you never know, though. They did eventually run Transformers.

56. Some Dude on the Internet - April 28, 2009

I’ll be hitting the Air & Space Museum, then visiting the real Enterprise! :^)

57. Z Remorca - April 28, 2009

YEAH! thank God for IMAX here in the Philippines! :D

58. Ricker'sDad - April 28, 2009

I’m from the middle of nowhere and have never seen an IMAX theater, let alone an IMAX movie. Everyone seems quite excited by this. Why? What’s so different about it? Is it that the screen is huge? I mean, I can sit in the front row at any theater I want.

59. Newman - April 28, 2009

I HAVE to see this in IMAX

60. Klatch - April 28, 2009

Stay away from the Imax in Huntsville, Its a planetarium converted to play Imax movies, its distorted and will give you a headache

61. Klatch - April 28, 2009

Stay away from the Imax in Huntsville AL, Its a planetarium converted to play Imax movies, its distorted and will give you a headache

62. Klatch - April 28, 2009

This is the full length version at IMAX right? not edited in any way

63. The Governator - April 28, 2009

I obviously don’t speak for everyone when I say this, but I don’t think seeing movies in IMAX is all that great. Considering the super action sequences, the use of some shaky cam, and the quick cut editing, I imagine the most IMAX will do for me is make me throw up on the person in front of me. Several years ago, I went to see the original Star Wars in the theater, and I had a massive head ache afterwards. I think IMAX is pretty awesome, but only for stuff like documentaries and stuff like that. For big sumer action movies, I think it tends to get to much up in the face. So up in the face that you can only focus on certain aspects of a frame instead of getting the whole picture. But hey, whatever floats your boat. I may just go see it in IMAX once towards the end of the run, but not for my first time.

Anyways, only 9 days to go. Almost 8. YIPEEEEE!!!!!!

64. Christine - April 28, 2009

NO!!!!!!! Omaha’s IMAX isn’t showing it! D:

Augh. That sucks. Ah well. I’ll see it in DP at one of the closer theatres, anyways.

65. Drew - April 28, 2009

I live in Huntsville and cannot wait to see it at the Space and Rocket center..

The face of the Governator officially states that being excited for this film is now law. If you are not excited for this film, The Governator will come after you, searching for you in the phone book, one name after another, going from house to house, and dealing with whoever may come in the way of you and me until you suffer the consequences.

This is now officially law.

Resistance is futile

Your Trek law enforcement,

God bless!

72. The Governator - April 28, 2009

Did I say something wrong?

Just wondering, because you deleted my post. I thought it was funny. Hmmm… I guess I should stop posting faces?

My sincere apologies for whatever I may have done.

:(

P.S. 8 days and counting!!!!!

73. The Governator - April 28, 2009

Woops. Never mind. I’m confused. I take back my previous statement. Something must be wrong with the puter.

:)

74. The Governator - April 28, 2009

71. steve

I saw Star Wars there! Cool theater.

p.s. Where do you live?

75. YOURPUPPY - April 28, 2009

imax goof balls, unless the movie was filmed with an imax format camera the movie will be shown in standard format which means half of the screen wont be used. If it is and the picture is spread out to fill the screen the resolution wont be anything as refined as going to a regular theater. This is a marketing ploy to get the money spread into theaters that would have missed out on the orgy about to be had on the public.

76. imaxme - April 28, 2009

Just purchased 3 IMAX Tickets!!! May 7, 09 @7PM

BIG BAG OF POPCORN AND COKE AWAITS, THE WAIT IS OVER.

77. pock speared - April 28, 2009

this enthusiasm is so human. whatever happened to those cool voices of reason?

just for fun, i ran through some old trekmovie quotes from six months ago. i’ll spare the shame of names, but these were not random posters, they were regular TM crewmembers…

“this crap will bomb, trust me.”
“no trek fan will buy this garbage, ever.”
“j.j. is going to kill the franchise, again.”
“casting pegg has turned this project into a farce.”
“without shatner, nimoy will stand out like a idiot in an overpriced muppett babies ripoff.”
“i predict it will be forgotten after opening weekend.”
“this film will fail. MARK MY WORDS.”
“we will be longing for nemesis on may 9th.”
“goodbye star trek.”
“trust me, this is the final nail”
“the stupid bastards are crapping all over trek. i will enjoy watching this travesty bomb.”
“who the hell is chris pine?”
“orci thinks he knows what we want. he deserves shame he’s brought upon trek.”

all cut&paste quotes my friends!
hope you all have a great time!!!

78. THX-1138 - April 28, 2009

The IMAX in my town, which at one time was one of the largest, is not showing Trek.

So here is a reverse shout-out to the Riverfront Park IMAX:

YOU SUCK!

79. SaphronGirl - April 28, 2009

Quinto was fab on Letterman tonight. :DD

80. JimJ - April 28, 2009

81. JimJ - April 28, 2009

Damn, forgot all about Quinto on Letterman. Any new clips?

82. The Governator - April 28, 2009

81. JimJ

No.

83. Kyle Cawley - April 28, 2009

No Calgary!? Denied!!!!

84. Jonathan - April 28, 2009

Hey guys, IMAX is awesome. Did anyone see Dark Knight in IMAX? It was breathtaking! The key is to sit in the very back row so you can take it all in. Watchmen was also good in IMAX. Star Trek is going to be the best in IMAX! Got my tickets last week here in Ontario, CA. for the May 7th 7pm show in IMAX of course. Can’t wait.

85. Cygnus-X1 - April 28, 2009

Here’s a very enjoyable interview with Pine & Quinto: http://www.hulu.com/watch/70333/access-hollywood-chris-pine-and-zachary-quinto-talk-star-trek

86. THX-1138 - April 28, 2009

Make sure to write, phone, or email your local IMAX if they are not showing Trek. I did.

And I know that I will be ignored. But what the heck, maybe they will see the light.

Stoopid Riverfront Park IMAX barstards.

87. Jenni Generation - April 28, 2009

Got my IMAX..! Can’t wait. Middle row tickets… hope I don’t get a headache.

Though I’m almost more excited for the sound system. But eh. We only have small cinemas around here, and even at the front of a normal cinema the screen isn’t really big enough to fill up your vision I find.

So close now!

88. Jim Nightshade - April 28, 2009

I have tickets for me and my bros at the seattle center imax tho lacey and southcenter are closer to me in tacoma/lakewood–Some valid points that the movie was not filmed in imax so maybe anthony can find out how big it will be onscreen and how they do that-article mentions digitally remastering the film–details please anthony how and what to expect?

[...] jednak nie jest aż tak pokrzywdzona w kwestii IMAXa jak się pierwotnie wydawało; TrekMovie opublikowało właśnie listę kin IMAX w USA (134) i na świecie (29), w których pokazywany będzie ST XI. [...]

91. ENGON - April 29, 2009

One might want to consider whether your local IMAX theater utilizes digital or film projection. The original IMAX format uses a 15-perforation-wide, 70mm-tall frame. Each frame is the equivalent of three typical 70mm frames rotated 90 degrees. However, according to Wikipedia…

“IMAX digital currently uses two 2K-resolution Christie projectors with Texas Instruments Digital Light Processing technology alongside parts of IMAX’s proprietary system. The two 2K images are projected over each other, producing an image that is potentially of a slightly higher resolution than common 2K digital cinema. Originally, IMAX had been considering using two Sony 4K projectors.”

2K projectors are now widely used to show 35mm films and some venues now employ 4K projectors (with four times the resolution of 2K). Also, as noted above, the live action portions of “Star Trek,” at least, were originated on 35mm film and not IMAX. The film is being digitally re-mastered for IMAX.

IMAX digital would certainly seem to represent a “different” resolution than either an IMAX film image or a 4K digital projection. Is it a perceptible difference? Hard to say, though part of the IMAX experience is simply the larger than normal screen size.

92. mo - April 29, 2009

no imax version for germany? :(

93. Chris Pike - April 29, 2009

Birmingham – IMAX Cinema Millennium Point

There will be a whole party of us there, and several viewings for me!

Note that the DMR upsampling used for Imax from 35mm original uses very advanced techniques to “add resolution” which (I guess) uses info from the surrounding frames to determine the high rez info “missing” from the original frame as well as interpolation algorithms to really give a ultra high rez image way sharper than the original 35mm. But, yes, you do need to see it projected on Imax 70mm horizontal film (letterboxed) rather than 2 or 4k digital projection to appreciate the effect in full.

94. mattyb_uk - April 29, 2009

I never though i would see my home town mentioned on my fav website.

I’m going to the 00.01 performance on the 07/05/2009

95. afterace - April 29, 2009

No Poland at all, for WTF I need any I MAX then ???

96. 'Jean-Luc' - April 29, 2009

#95 – Apparently Poland is not an exception here, what about Germany or France, I’d bet any money they’d have IMAX screenings but they don’t. As of now there are ONLY THIRTEEN European IMAX theaters to show Star Trek

97. ENGON - April 29, 2009

I should have made it clear that 2K projectors are widely used to show non-IMAX films as well as apparently being used in tandem for IMAX digital. I have not seen anything about 4K projectors being used for IMAX, except that they were initially considered.

The sequences of “Dark Knight” shot in IMAX made the distinction between IMAX and 35mm DRM’d to IMAX pretty apparent. At least one aspect of DMR is its ability to smooth out or remove the film grain which would otherwise be noticable from a 35mm source on a giant IMAX screen.

98. Allister gourlay - April 29, 2009

Anyone else going to Glasgow IMAX?

99. sdfsdsf - April 29, 2009

Why only 2 weeks in IMAX? :(
So now we all have to rush and put up with packed theatres.

100. turon47 - April 29, 2009

What the hell…

They do show it in Amsterdam, Kiev and Oviedo, but not in Berlin? Damn it, whatfor do we have an IMAX in the middle of downtown? PetaQpu!

101. Chris Pike - April 29, 2009

97

Wouldn’t that be something – maybe have the next Trek as the first feature length entirely shot in Imax!

102. sdfsdsf - April 29, 2009

100. turon46
PetaQpu!

I was trying to figure out what you meant, then I realized it was Klingon.
LOL

I thought it was Petak only though, what is the Pu at the end?

103. Ensign "Redshirt" Gomez - April 29, 2009

Saw an exclusive preview at the Southbank Cinema complex just the other day. It was a bloody brilliant film. We were in Cinema #5, which once upon a time was an IMAX (and still has a biiiiig screen) so it was still a very pleasant viewing experience :)

105. Spockish - April 29, 2009

IMAX was great when it came out in the 80’s, but now days there are a few places with even better screens, and there even curved to lower the eye strain to benefit peripheral vision. So when are they coming out with the Holo helmet so your eyes see the movie projected right on your retinas. This way it will be as almost as good as a holodeck. And then with 3D you’ll almost be in the movie. Can’t wait for Star Trek the Movie (2029)

By then maybe I can get a seat in Tyco crater on the moon. Only flaw is how to you do popcorn on the moon, popping it is easy but eatting it could be hard.

But I may have to go to IMAX just to see the difference for my 3rd or 4th viewing.

106. richpit - April 29, 2009

51. MORN SPEAKS

Dang! I was gonna say “see ya there”, but I guess I won’t.

Enjoy!!

107. RM10019 - April 29, 2009

Got 10 ticktes fot the AMC Empire Imax last week before it was even listed as Imax. The price, (ouch) was the tip-off that it was.

108. mindyac - April 29, 2009

Hell yes, I have my tickets

109. Andros - April 29, 2009

What is this “duct tape” everyone keeps talking about on the helm console?

110. Kathryn Janeway - April 29, 2009

It’s coming to Montreal!!! Wooohoooo! *does the happy dance* Now I just hope the first showing will be on May 7th…. *crosses fingers*

111. NL-NaeZ - April 29, 2009

Netherlands Amsterdam – Pathe Arena IMAX^

Whoeehoeeeeeeeeee!! It’s exciting!!

To bad that Belgium, Antwerp is not listed.. Although I live in The Netherlands, Antwerp is closer to my home than Amsterdam…

112. Pizza - April 29, 2009

Anthony, or anyone who knows.

Is the IMAX presentation in Wide Screen or Full Screen?

If it is a Full screen production, NO THANK YOU!!! Why would anyone want to see the movie with 20% cropped off the sides?

Can anyone answer for sure? And not an “I Think it will be” answer.

boborci, are you lurking out there? maybe you know?

113. Pat - April 29, 2009

LOL @ 77

114. Michael - April 29, 2009

With IMAX…you do NOT want to be in the front row!!!!!!!!! Sit as FAR BACK as you can! So you can experience as much peripheral eye sight as possible to experience ALL the action going on above/sides of you! GET there early and run into the theater as soon as staff allows you to!

115. TyanaZai - April 29, 2009

Just bought my tickets for the 7:00 PM for the Montreal showing!
Can’t wait!!! One week to go!

If anyone else is going there too mention it here! :D

116. Captain Dunsel - April 29, 2009

102 – “I thought it was Petak only though, what is the Pu at the end?”

Pluralization. (proper orthography would have been petaQpu’ BTW)

117. Captain Dunsel - April 29, 2009

114 – “With IMAX…you do NOT want to be in the front row!!!!!!!!! ”

Man, will I second that! My biggest problem with IMAX has always been that my night vision isn’t the greatest. As a result, I have a huge problem finding a SEAT anywhere where the image is decent, and often end up too close to the front (where no one with half a brain sits).

Saw “Watchmen” at an IMAX and had a sore neck for three hours!

118. captblsisko - April 29, 2009

Did I mention my Woodland Hills, CA theater is getting an IMAX screen?!?!??! I’m sooooo Happy!!!!!!111!!!!!!one!!!!!!!! OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG!!!

*Breathe breathe*

Just got my ticket! May 7th at 7pm at the IMAX in White Marsh MD.

123. tribble farmer - April 29, 2009

The closest IMAX to me is in Denver. 250 miles and seven hours away on treacherous mountain highways. It would be so worth it but I have nobody to take me. >.>

124. canucktrekker - April 29, 2009

Calgary AB nor Edmonton AB get IMAX trek, this is ridonculous.

125. Allister gourlay - April 29, 2009

128. Todd F - April 29, 2009

5/7 7pm IMAX showing in San Diego (Edwards Mira Mesa) is now sold out

129. Spock Grokker - April 29, 2009

Anyone going to the Regal IMAX at Pointe Orlando? I have tickets for the 7:00 Thursday the 7th show! Then the next couple of days over to Fashion Square in downtown Orlando. The theater has gotten with a local area klingon group to come out and set the mood!
Less than 10 days! I can hardly wait!!!

130. Jacques - April 29, 2009

RE: 115. TyanaZai – April 29, 2009

I also am in Montreal. I will definitely go see it in IMAX. I might even go a few times.

Hey by the way, since your are Canadian, know that Futureshop.ca has TOS on Blu for 79$. I canceled my order on Amazon (109$) and reordered. They are out of stock right now but Im confident it won’t be long before it is shipped.

131. snoopytrek - April 29, 2009

OMG!! I can’t believe this!! As a twenty (ok…thirty) plus years Trekker, I can’t believe the irony…for lack of a better word. Been waitin’ for a real IMAX Trek film and one of the ONLY IMAX theaters in Georgia is literally walking distance from my house…

Thanks Trekmovie for the list.

132. Michael - April 29, 2009

In Seattle, WASH, I just bought 10 Kellogg’s/Keebler food products from our grocery store chain QFC. Once I hit the cashier, and paid, their coupon printer printed me out a voucher for 2 FREE Star Trek addmissions to participating theaters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You go online and enter a code that that MUST be entered by 6/30, and tickets MUST be used by 8/31! I spent around 25.00.
Any combination of Keebler cookies/crackers, Nutrigrain bars, Rice Krispies Treats, Cereal, Pop Tarts & YoGos. I did not find the new TREK cereal, even though it was in their store ad. There is signage about an end cap in their stores. I now am seeing Trek 3 times! Twice in reg. theater and once in IMAX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

133. Pete Tong - April 29, 2009

I’m dissapointed in the Hungarian IMAX theatre… they only play 15 years old documentaries….

It was opened more than two years ago…nothing interesting so far.

“I’m dissapointed in the Hungarian IMAX theatre… they only play 15 years old documentaries….

my friend, i totally understand your frustration. but here in the plastic, useless media culture of the USA, i would LOVE an IMAX theater that devoted itself to 15-year old documentaries. the art house is dead here, and too much great work is ignored because of it.

135. RoobyDoo - April 30, 2009

Ottawa, Canada tickets are now available online. I’m in for 7PM Thurs at SilverCity IMAX with my 2 kids. The wait is (almost) over…

136. mattyb_uk - April 30, 2009

Is anyone going to the Bradford midnight at the photography museum

137. TyanaZai - April 30, 2009

RE: 130. Jacques – April 29, 2009

Tempting, but i’m not high-def yet :) Don’t have the means, but I still have my Remastered Season 2 DVD set :)

138. JL - April 30, 2009

Did you guys see this? Trek Hollywood premiere tonight, they also have live webcams set up…..

http://fasinfun.blogspot.com/2009/04/star-trek-hollywood-premiere-tonight-at.html

139. sparks brain - April 30, 2009

I’m in! 2 for Colossus!!

140. andrew - May 2, 2009

no calgary?? that is unbelivable… how stupid is that

141. Leah - May 5, 2009

So disappointed! We have 2 IMAX’S in Edmonton and neither one is playing Star Trek.. Not even in Calgary!! What the hell is this?!??! Big mistake on the promoters part, Alberta is a very rich province and have a lot of people that would gladly shell out good $ to see this movie in IMAX format. For shame!
:(

142. andrew - May 5, 2009

I for one will be boycotting the theater brands that have imax in alberta and going to some other theater to see it on principle alone. I will not shell out my dollers to a company that has IMAX in the provice and is is not playing a movie like this in it.

143. Optimus prime is my homeboy - May 6, 2009

So very disappointed that star trek is not playing In Vancouver. I was so set on it…. Didn’t want to watch it on regular screens….. But oh well. So upsetting…my favorite movies were seen on the IMAX screen…dark knight, watchmen, 300… Transformers 2 better be in a Vancouver IMAX or I’ll kill someone…

144. Darren - May 6, 2009

I agree – this is crazy that it’s not in Vancouver (or Alberta for that matter).
Fyi…I saw the movie last Saturday at an advance showing..it is good, but the ending was kind of ..meh. I wanted something clever, not just “oh we’ll flex our muscles and the problem is solved.” Oh well. I also didn’t like Scotty – Simon was too much of a clown. But Kirk, Spock and McCoy were all good. Thumbs up overall.

145. Michael - May 7, 2009

I wish there was some way that us Star Trek Fan’s? In all those Countries/ States/Provinces/Cities. That for what ever reason were passed up on for the Star Trek Imax Experience??? Could send messages to the higher ups asking them WTF is the reasoning we have all these Imax screens? My Partner and i are huge Trek Fan’s so much so that we have the entire cast of Voyager with guests in original screen used costumes & props. When we heard Trek was going to be on Imax we thought for sure we could see it. The higher ups whom ever they are passed on all of us here in Alberta with 4 screens,” WHY”????

146. KSTJ - May 8, 2009

NOT EVEN ONE THEATER IN CONNECTICUT?! What the hell is up with that?!

*infuriated*

147. CK - May 9, 2009

I guess the 2 weeks time frame is due to Terminator Salvation coming out in 2 weeks?

148. Just Passing By - May 13, 2009

WARNING – Some web research reveals that IMAX may not mean the huge screen that you expect. IMAX has recently entered into a deal with AMC to market its name as IMAX Digital, which has little to do with the super-high-res image and huge screens you expect when you think IMAX. You may go into the theater and encounter a pretty ordinary sized screen.

149. apuesto - May 24, 2009

it’s a SHAME, a damn shame that IMAX theatres are now not true IMAX screen size AND you have to pay extra to see something listed as IMAX when in reality it is not true IMAX sized.
It’s like being told you are posted to the Defiant as a Federation starship only to find out it’s part of the Federation but it’s a little ship.

150. anon - July 24, 2009

to comment 146: ST is now playing at Norwalk Aquarium: see http://www.maritimeaquarium.org/imax.html
