Happy Birthday, Karl Urban

Karl Urban is celebrating his birthday today. The kiwi actor who has become Star Trek's new Dr. Leonard 'Bones' McCoy is turning 38 years old. So today TrekMovie joins other fans in wishing the good doctor happy birthday.

The new Bones

Karl Urban has become a fan favorite of the new Star Trek crew. This is probably due to how Urban is a fan himself, and how his performance, more than any of the others, channeled the original actor. This clip of Kirk meeting McCoy shows how Urban has nailed the irascible doctor.

Comic Book Karl

Karl Urban's next two projects, both of which are in post-production, are comic book adaptations. In October Karl will be seen along side Bruce Willis, John Malkovich and Morgan Freeman in Red. And next March Urban will appear as the main villain in the post-apocalyptic film Priest. Karl has also signed on to star in Relentless, a low-budget film about extreme sports enthusiasts surviving a plan crash in the Amazon. Relentless starts shooting in the fall.

And after all that other movie-making, Karl will suit up again to play Dr. McCoy in the Star Trek sequel. Until then, we hope that Karl relaxes and enjoys his Birthday.

happy birthday karl from Dunedin.
I love your Orion bodyguards.

I only want to see more of him if he eases up on the nostril flaring. That and if we get to see him buck up a little more and hear something along the lines of, “I already have a job, I’m a Doctor…” “You wanna see how fast I can put you in a hospital?”

Happy Birthday Karl!

Happy Birthday Karl! Your awesome!

Like you needed to ask if we want more Karl in the next Trek!
Happy Birthday.

Sharing his birthday with:
Liam Neeson;
Tom Jones;
Anna Kournikova;

among others.

And me! What great company! Ha ha ha!!

Yes PLEASE! More Bones! Actually more of the Kirk/Spock/McCoy trio that we all know and love. Plus, it might give the character a chance to relax a bit.

I remember when he was first cast in the role – I all I knew him from was playing Eomer in Lord of the Rings, and I absolutely could not picture him as Dr. McCoy. I was VERY dubious. Then that clip of him meeting Pine’s Kirk was released as a teaser before the movie came out, and insantly realized how wrong I’d been about him. Perfection.

Happy B-D Karl! good job doing boins.

bones even

Looks like the ladies know their Bones.

Happy Birthday, Karl.

Still puzzled as to why no Oscar nod for Karl Urban’s performance as McCoy.

Happy Happy Birthday, dear Mister Karl Urban, Sir!!
I can not wait to see all your new movies.
You are awesome!

A great job to a wonderful actor. A true tribute to the late DeForest Kelly. Happy Birthday Karl! With may more to come

Happy Birthday!
Great casting in ST09, however the new script could also portray the other side of Bones- the southern gentleman, the wide happy grin, and the compassion. Bones was not always snarly- he was also charming.

“Bones was not always snarly- he was also charming”

Shucks…everyone in the new film was extra pissy for some reason. The new black I guess – being “bad ass” by being bitchy.

Rebecca, if you’d seen him portray “Julius Caesar” in “Xena:Warrior Princess” you would have had NO doubts much much sooner! He has an incredible inherent ability – or what Hollywood tends to overlook these days – as real honest to God talent – for becoming a character!

I thought Chris and Zachary did an awesome job, but Karl deserved an award! Hands down! =)

Happy H A P P Y B I R T H D A Y Karl!! Laugh, love, and safe journeys!
(Or you could just “Live Long & Prosper!) =)

Cheers!

Happy Birthday, Karl! Hope your day is as awesome as you are!

Looking forward to seeing more of you on the silver screen! : )

GREAT young Dr. McCoy!!!…. HAPPY NIVER!!!

Happy Birthday! Your performance was amazing!!!!! :)

His performance was so dead on that every time he channeled Deforest Kelly, the audience laughed. It took some time to get used to it and now that I’m used to it, I say go for it. More McCoy.

happy birthday Karl

Happy B-day Karl!

…Bones was probly THE best thing in ST09 (w/ Zoe close 2nd).

Happy Birthday, Karl!

Saving grace of the film, and severely underused! Can’t wait to see what he does in the next movie, happy b’day

I was one of the fortunate few who saw the secret world premiere of Star Trek in Austin in April of last year. The crowd erupted into wild applause during Bones’ introductory scene! Good God, man, you’re now a doctor, Karl!! Look forward to seeing more McCoy in XII!! :-)

No Oscar nod, because he didn’t actually get to do all that much on screen? Maybe this next go around. and besides, despite all the really talented actors that have done trek over the years (Leanord Nimoy, Patrick Stewart, Robert Picardo, Armin Shimerman, etc.) can you immagine Trek winning an emmy or an oscar in the acting catagory….. be neither. I think that the judges would choke themselves before doing that. (MInd you, I would vote all these guys in a second, on their acting chops alone.)

Happy birthday fellow Kiwi !!

Come over to Wanganui some time

:oD

Cheers Mate

I absolutely loved Urban as McCoy. He was the underrated presence in the film who’s star shined just as brightly as Chris Pine’s. Can’t wait to see him again in STAR TREK 2.

Happy Birthday, Karl!!!

Happy Birthday Karl!

You’re fantastic!

Happy Birthday Karl. It was uncanny…we knew you had Bones nailed after your first two or three lines!

Damn it Karl – have a good day – from us all in Great Britain. Beware Romulans bearing ale.
