It has been more than two and a half years since the release of the last Star Trek video game (the lackluster ‘Star Trek Shattered Universe’ for the PS2). But Trek gamers can now rejoice, the long wait is over. Bethesda Softworks has announced the North American release dates for their first swath of Trek Games:
Ocotber 3 |
October 24 |
November 7 |
Encounters |
Tactical Assault |
Legacy |
Each of these games is totally different from the others with Legacy being the most highly anticipated. Legacy sports a story by veteran Trek writers Dorothy "D.C." Fontana and Derek Chester along with voice work by all 5 Trek captains (Shatner, Stewart, Brooks, Mulgrew and Bakula). Bethedsa also recently announced that Legacy will have over an hour of newly scored music by Jason Graves and Rod Abernathy. Bethesda still hasn’t made any announcements for future games, but Perpetual Design is hard at work on a Trek themed MMORPG ‘Star Trek Online‘ which is scheduled to go into beta test next summer.
I’m not a heavy-duty gamer…but I cannot wait to get my hands on Legacy.
Rumor has it that they will make available for download “historical battles” shortly after release. Like, say…a certain battle in/near the Mutara Nebula.
By-Tor hate to break the news but the developers have since dropped the “historic battles” expansions. Their excuse was that it was just something they whipped up to show off the game at E3. That really sucks as in addition to fighting it out in the nebula I was looking forward to obliterating a bird of prey prototype over Khitomer.
the last time i upgraded my computer was for starfleet command 3…. what a mistake that was!
but, legacy looks cool.
I can understand wanting a portable star trek game as well as a console game, but console games of this type are usually ports of pc games (or vise versa). What’s the point of creating “Encounters” when you could just port “Legacy”?
Not that I really care, I’m getting Legacy for the PC anyway. It just seems a waste of time to make a whole different game. (Although it doesn’t look THAT different).
Remember the good old adventure games with Star Trek: 25th Anniversary, Judgments Rights, and A Final Unity? Those were the best. Other than “Starfleet Academy” I haven’t played many modern STAR TREK games. But “Legacy” looks fun. At least I can play that before STAR TREK ONLINE comes out.
The Borg game was funny. Is “Hidden Evil” or “The Fallen” any good?
I am betting that Encounters was just something left over from before the Activision lawsuit. The new deal with Bethesda was only announced 8 months ago, it doesnt make sense that they would have started (and finished) a game for the PS2.
The only game of the bunch I am interested in playing is Legacy, but I am still hoping that there is a real starship combat simulator like Bridge Commander in the future.
It’s only going to be nice if the damn games are going to be good, and Encounters looks like an arcade game with Star Trek stuff plastered in, Legacy looks better, but it still looks like a typical Trek ship combat game.
that other one, Tactical assault looks fairly plausible to me. I’ll buy it.
If you’re looking for decent ST games, Star Trek Elite Force is decent.
i pissed legacy only on xbox 360 and pc game but why cant play on ps2 how come?
