And just when I wrote entire novels about misplaced zippers and the over-prevalence of the color blue in Discovery…. RED CAPES*!

*Do these colorful skimpy costumes and the lush tropical setting remind anyone else of Picard’s trippy android planet finale?

**Color-matched boots, even. I dig it!

You’re complaining about the outfits! They don’t look skimpy but fashionable.

Ha! Now I got ya, FAIze ;) I wasn’t complaining at all. Skimpy is a compliment coming from an old TOSer like me! ;)

mmmmmmm……biceps.

Vulcan Soul was clearly not complaining.

What, no black leather?

Trills were always too cool for school, so I’m not surprised they are living in a post-leather society ;)

Burnham is going to Trill in the next episode. I’m aware of that planet but haven’t gotten into Deep Space Nine so I don’t know a lot about Trill and Trill people.

Adira seems like an interesting character. Season 3 has lot of new character that could carry on their own.

The Mandalorian and Star Trek: Discovery will keep me busy for the rest of November so that’s good. I like both shows but The Mandalorian is something special.

Even if you don’t have time to do a full deep dive into DS9. I would recommend watching few of the earlier season episodes dealing with the Trill. “Dax” (Season 1), “Invasive Procedures”, “Playing God”, “Blood Oath” (Season 2); “Equilibrium”, “Facets” (Season 3), “Rejoined” (Season 4).

The Trill look much different and in my opinion handled much better in DS9 than in their intro, “The Host” from TNG. The Trill in TNG was heavily weighted on the symbiont taking complete control of the host, while DS9 shows more of a blending, a unique combo of the host and symbiont.

I rewatched ‘Dax’ last month, it really does a great job just exploring how Trill biology works and a good story overall! But all of those are good in general. Dax had some great story lines.

Yeah “Dax” compared to some of the other episodes is a bit rough around the edges but that’s because it was early. Still essential. Yeah, Dax was my favorite character.

Is something going on between Linus and Georgiou?

Seems like.

But I’m wondering if her interest in Line’s visual range may be motivated by something else e.g. his ability to see some abnormalities in dilithium.

Her own visual range is different due to being Terran.

They may be setting up Linus to leave ship ship with her to become part of the cast of S31, so it may be as simple as that.

I’ve been speculating on who might be going with Georgiou as well.

We’ve commented on how Discovery’s large cast doesn’t get a lot of screen time, so both from a story point of view and an actors’ career perspective, I can see them sending a few along with Georgiou into her new role.

I hadn’t considered Linus before, but they will want at least one alien. The character is popular and the actor is super, so I agree that it makes sense.

Owosekun might be another to follow, depending on the mission. First, her MU version was close to Georgiou and someone Georgiou relied on, and her background as someone from a Luddite community may be relevant.

Any other guesses?

I assume the season finale is their wedding.

Linus can do better!

I’m behind on my viewing. Considering she chowed down on Kelpians in the AU, that can’t end well.

Tastes like chicken.

Good to see Karen Robinson in a guest role.

She seems to be turning up on a lot of shows now that Schitt’s Creek has wrapped.

Schitt’s Creek is on Netflix and that’s funny.

Have you seen The Mandalorian yet?

That is the best Star Wars in years. Way better than the new trilogy.

Strange New Worlds will be the Star Trek version of that.

I really hope SNW is that good… but Akiva Goldsman is no Dave Filoni and Alex Kurtzman is no Jon Favreau :(

I’m excited for SNW, but I also remember how excited so many of us was with Picard and didn’t quite get there for a lot of us. So yes, excited, but cautious. And I can say that about every Trek show basically including this season of DIS, again based on the last two. But so far, so good at least. And LDS exceeded my expectations, probably the only Trek show I can say I loved its first season wholeheartedly. But yes Goldsman had nothing to do with it either. ;)

I definitely get where you’re coming from Tiger2.

I’m really enjoying Discovery S3 so far, but my concern that some of the really awful fan theories are true is holding me back from full-time enthusiasm.

VS asked me on the “fan theories we hope aren’t true” thread if I’m getting cynical. Not really, but keeping a certain distance definitely.

I hope to stay balanced, but I’m also hoping that at least Kurtzman and Kadin are coming here and getting fan feedback.

Knowing that Chabon insulated himself by sticking to constructive criticism only threads on Reddit (which in my view are increasingly unbalanced) or that McMahan just looks at what’s posted to him directly on social media, does make me concerned that some of the showrunners are avoiding feedback. If they don’t want to wade through it themselves they should pay for someone to monitor boards and provide a roll-up of high interest points and views and themes in the feedback. It’s pretty standard practice to make sure you know what your stakeholders are thinking.

One thing I have been doing since DIS in season 2 is applauding the fact that the producers are clearly reading the feedback and taking the criticism well WHILE also of course not expecting them to take every little critique someone says online. But yes I think the overwhelming consensus on a lot of this stuff has definitely improved Discovery (and I really doubt we would even be in the 32nd century if it wasn’t for all the complaints about the show being a prequel but more importantly just feeling like one in name only). But of course just listening to people complain doesn’t just mean you will write better stories. I don’t think it’s that easy of course but at least visual changes and the TYPE of stories you tell can be night and day.

And yes what and where they are listening to could be different. But all I can say is I’m on Reddit a lot and usually post there more than here and it’s not that much difference in terms of the criticisms ALTHOUGH I think Reddit is much more positive with both PIC and DIS IMO overall than here. Not everyone loves them but its a much bigger site so you hear a lot more different voices in general. I been here so long now (2011) and see mostly the same handles I kind of know how they are going to feel before I even read their posts most of the time.

But I think for the most part, things seem to be improving. Even if Picard didn’t turn out to be a huge hit critic wise I do think most liked it better than Discovery in season one. I certainly did. I don’t think it was THAT bad or anything, just didn’t get close to my expectations. But LDS was great outside of a few episodes and DIS at least feels like every season is better than the last. Obviously season 3 is still early but it at least to me so far it’s a more exciting season but I really loved how season 2 started but like Picard just ended pretty badly. Still I have hope season 3 will be a different animal and I just like the era it’s in in general. It’s just more exciting even if I do miss some of the characters like Pike and even Tyler.

But hopefully SNW will be a hit out of the gate but yeah I will remain cautious about it, especially since LDS is the only show to break the mold of having a pretty good first season for me (but I always thought VOY first season was decent as well, just not amazing).

Kurtzman is DEFINITELY not up to par with Favreau. I know this isn’t the place to have this conversation, but Mandalorian is absolute magic.

I’ll admit, I got confused at first and thought you meant Jennifer Robertson and was trying to figure out how Jocelyn Schitt was going to fit into the Discovery universe!

I want to know if Adira is actually a young DAX ???

Exactly

Do symbionts change their names?

By the 25th century Trill convention, the symbiont would be named Tal.

I hope so. Not sure. According to what we know, Adira is human, and he/she can’t remember his/her previous lives. Hopefully we will find out after she takes a swim at Trill.

Love Jadzia. Would be amazing, an opportunity to see her again. =D

How about this: Plot twist..maybe it’s not Dax..the young initiate in “Playing God” eventually fully embraced the joining and was endorsed by Jadzia. The symbiont he joined with is named Tal

WOW — deep cut Jay.

Fantastic that you’ve caught that. This makes total sense – a symbiont we’ve seen before and who was influenced/mentored by a joined Trill in Starfleet, Dax in fact, but not Dax themselves.

It was actually me who suggested it but Jay and others comments got me thinking! I just think it would make more sense than Dax changing its name…but then again, that probably means my suggestion won’t happen ;)

If it was Dax, can you imagine Dax telling tales of times as Curzon and Jadzia with Kor to Michael…that might get awkward because of Kol

I’m still getting muddled sometimes with the way this lines up on mobile.

Anyways, it’s a great point David, and just the kind of thing that Kirsten Beyer would dig up. I suspect you’ve nailed it.

I know the formatting at least on mobile is hard to read! It would be a nice nod to canon and the possible positive impact Dax would have had, without them beating people over the head with it.

This episode comes out on my 40th birthday! (yikes..)

New Discovery AND election results (maybe) on the same day? That could be a double whammy of a sh!t show indeed ;)

Popcorn? That’s popcorn!

I am glad we are finally going to see Saru and MU Georgiou having a conversation. Does he knows all the details? She likes Kelpien Soup!!!

Saru already knew that. She mentioned it right in front of him in season 1.

You’d think he might have put a bit more security around her in case she is just biding her time.

That would be far too logical. Too bad they couldn’t have a Vulcan undergoing pon Farr and uses aggression to take out MU Georgiou and toss her out of the nearest airlock.

“… in case she is just biding her time.”

In Saru’s place I’d be less concerned about Space Hitler biding and more concerned about her biting ;)

Saru knew about Terrans eating Kelpiens, but after Georgiou’s comments, no follow up.

Saru understands exactly what Georgiou is and how she’s developing.

His comment to Tilly that Georgiou was worried about Michael, but lacks the self-awareness to recognize that was spot-on.

Michael isn’t the Michael she fostered, but she’s the Michael that brought her to the Prime Universe, and Georgiou is trying to rewrite the ending to victory by success with Prime Michael after betrayal and failure in her relationship with MU Michael.

More Georgiou has some kind of competitive mother thing going on over Michael — we saw that in her interaction with Mama Burnham.

I am holding to my own fan theory that Georgiou and Mama Burnham are related, perhaps half-sisters. We’ve never been told how the two of them new of one another in the MU, and it’s interesting that Mama Burnham was tracking Georgiou in the MU timeline.

I need to catch up on my viewing….tomorrow might be a good time if the election results run long.

Yeah election night tomorrow. Biden will win… I might get to watching it even though I think it’s terrible lol

Discovery season 3 is climbing steadily in Parrot Analytics demand rankings for digital originals.

The premiere 301 placed 6th in the top 10 in the United States, and 302 moved up to 5th (behind Cobra Kai).

Election day is going to be insane tomorrow so I will catch up and get up to speed. The election results will take all night.

From what I’ve heard there’s a very good chance election results will take more than all night.

There’s a chance one of them has a solid claim on 270 fairly quickly though, even if we don’t know the final results for a while. Hopefully Biden wins and by too big a margin for Trump to try and lawyer his way around it.

There may be some widespread agreement about that at last! I just hope none of you actually expects any of the real issues to disappear just because the clown who co-opted them did ;) That’ll take some real work!

I don’t know what election you’re talking about, but you can bet on Trump in the area of 320 tomorrow night. Biden is cannon fodder for the left. Gonna be a shitshow for sure, but it won’t be Trump bitching and whining about recounts etc…….

Disappointed the Trill spots seem to be missing 😞

The spots are definitely there, but they are more pronounced on some characters than others.

Once would expect some variation, or even a mixing of the bumpy forehead Trills and the spotted, especially after a millennia.

Can I just say how cool it is to be going to the Trill homeworld?

There are a number of major planets that we’ve rarely seen across the series. If being in another era makes them “new” again so we can explore them with Discovery, I’m all for it.

Agreed. And I got more excited when Doug Jones said in the other article thread we will see a lot of other familiar planets and how much they have changed as well. I’m so happy they are not shying away from any of that like I originally thought they might and we will probably see a lot of different known places. I’m really hoping we get to other places like Vulcan, Qo’noS, Anodoria and even Cardassia (but yes not really holding my breath on that one).

We might learn the Federation headquarters is now Turkana IV lol. It’s been a loooong time, a lot could change. ;)

From the image alone, Guardian Xi looks a lot like Matt Frewer lol (Max Headroom, TNG’s own Berlinghoff Rasmussen)

I thought he was “The Swede” from episode 3’s reveal. [Hell on Wheels viewers will know who I mean]

“The Swede” was played by the actor who played Wen in last week’s episode 303.
