See Cadet Jean-Luc Struggle To Inspire His First Crew In Preview Of ‘Star Trek: Picard’s Academy’ #3

On Wednesday IDW continues the new series about young Jean-Luc Picard and his time at Starfleet Academy. Picard’s Academy is written by New York Times best-selling author Sam Maggs (Star Wars Jedi: Battle Scars and Marvel Action: Captain Marvel) with art by Ornella Greco and colors by Charlie Kirchoff. TrekMovie’s review of the first issue concluded the new series “offers a fresh blend of familiar and new characters with a compelling storyline and dynamic artwork.” And now we have a preview of the third issue.

Star Trek: Picard’s Academy #3

Synopsis:

It’s practice day for the most important test of Cadet Picard’s Starfleet Academy career thus far! His first test in actual space… and he is not ready. He may as well be yelling into a black hole after being put into a group with all his least favorite colleagues… and Marty, the girl he kind of, sort of likes. No one’s listening to his commands, and he doesn’t know how on Earth he’s supposed to see eye-to-eye with Resh, his bully and competition for top of the class! Picard’s course is set for failure, and if he can’t figure out a way to change things soon… there goes his future.

That art style is… quite a choice.

Yeah I’ve not been a fan of this series so far. I hope it’s a mini and not an ongoing. It’s so teen-angsty and not very Picardish. It has its moments but it’s not great.

I expect a similar vibe from the Star Fleet Academy show. Here’s hoping I’m wrong.

A dick joke? Really?

Drawing a young Picard without a cleft chin, it’s a choice I guess.

Cadet with glasses? They must be allergic to Retinax V, I guess.

Kinda reminds me of Pidge from “Voltron”

Sam Maggs…. that explains everything.
