Next week Star Trek fans in and around Ontario, Canada will have a chance to hear the music of Star Trek performed live by the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony. And hosting the show will be veteran Trek actors John de Lancie and Robert Picardo. You can even go to an after-party with Q and The Doctor. Details below.
Star Trek Concert in Ontario + party with Picardo & de Lancie
The Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony will perform Star Trek: The Music on June 2nd and 3rd. Joined by Star Trek actors John de Lancie (Q from The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Voyager) and Robert Picardo (the holographic doctor from Voyager), the KWS will perform selections of the most famous music from the franchise (see below for program details).
To enhance the Trek experience, they will also have a photo booth where you can get your picture taken with costumed Trek characters. A post-concert ticketed After Party will feature a meet-and-greet with the actors and include an autographed memento.

Following on from Calgary in January, Kitchener-Waterloo is the second symphony to perform "Star Trek The Music" this year. In 2007 and 2008 the show was performed in Dallas, Toronto, Cincinnati, and Denver. There are no announcements for future shows at this time.

After seeing “The Asteroid Field” performed live at the Star Wars concert last year, the next item on the old bucket list is seeing “Stealing the Enterprise” performed live.
as noted in the article, there are no known future dates. This is only a couple hours from Buffalo, NY. It is also a couple hours from Detroit. Performances of this are pretty rare, this may be as close as it will get

I just saw Star Wars in Concert a couple weeks ago and it was incredible. First time seeing a symphony, would certainly love to see this.
“the music” is cool. I appreciate especially the suite from the Menagerie. Let’s get some Steiner and Fried in on there too. That would start to encompass more of “the music’ to me.

A shame Ron Jones was driven off TNG. I liked his music for that show the best!
I saw this in Toronto and since I live in Kitchener-Waterloo I’ll be seeing it again…the great thing about KW is that Centre in the Square was built specifically with the orchestra in mind and has the best acoustics in North America…so it’s going to be a treat!
Just saw it in Calgary this past winter. It was an AWESOME show.
At the end of the second set, they did an encore which consisted of the theme from the new movie. Hopefully they’ll do it again.
Worth every penny… I’d gladly go again.
I’d see this in a heartbeat if it came anywhere in the midwest. It wasn’t until January that I began watching BSG on DVD finishing it by March. Of course, last year Bear McCreary toured playing the music from that show, which is awesome. If he came to the midwest, I’d see him even before a Trek concert if I had to choose. McCreay’s music is that powerful.
#15 – Powerful = buncha drums and female solos. Dull. Sonic wallpaper as they called it on TNG when Berman had composers scale back the music. Same thing with THE X-FILES. Carter wanted music only for background.
#17 The X-Files was minimalist, but hugely effective for that sort of show. Listening to The Truth and the Light album proves it actually works well outside of the show, too.
And I’d scarcely call BSG’s music sonic wallpaper. In amidst some very strong leitmotifs, there was a huge variety of music. You could dismiss the title music as drums and female solos, I suppose, but you can’t have much knowledge of the show itself if you think it was all like that.
TNG certainly became sonic wallpaper as Berman banned musical creativity (who could tell the difference between a McCarthy score and a Chattaway score most of the time?) Who can forget Ron Jones’s great cues in Conspiracy and The Best of Both Worlds 1?
Is it just me or does that set list sound as if they are playing essentially the same few themes over and over again? For example:

#17 – I watched the show from pilot film to extended conclusion and I can tell you the score was one of my least favorite elements of the show. “Emo” sonic wallpaper. Been heavily into music soundtracks since the mid 1970s and can tell a good score from a bland one.
Sadly, not living in Canada these days…
They should tour with this!

But where’s the GOOD Star Trek music? The themes from “First Contact “and “Insurrection”, namely, and that end credits piece from the “Nemesis” soundtrack that I can’t find a name for.

Then your definition of ‘bland’ and ‘dull’ is a strange one. And for someone into soundtracks since the 1970s, isn’t ’emo’ a rather modern word for someone your age to use to describe music. I mean, I’m 35 and can honestly say that neither I nor anyone I know of my age group or older would ever use that word!
That said, if you hate TNG’s milksop scores and you hate BSG’s flamboyant scores, what have you liked?
#23 – I’ve been around the block a few times and I know what Emo is. Goth, etc. They’re good for the laughs (or is it “teh lulz” these days?)
TNG had decent scoring while Rodenberry was in charge. Ron Jones took advantage of it, and kept it up until he was canned in the late 4th season after great scores to shows like “Data’s Day” and “Final Mission”.
Flamboyant…hm. Throw some shoes and pocket change into a clothes dryer and you’ll get similar sounding scoring to Bear’s “action” music. And yes, the somber music is perfect for the Emo teen cutting himself because “no one understands me”. :-)

Bear used percussion as the heart of BSG and nothing could of sounded better. I have every soundtrack by him and have listened to his tracks many a time over and I can assure you that you have no idea what you’re talking about! BSG music equivalent to Emo cutting himself? Hahahaha that makes me laugh!

Same question I ask when I ponder “What was Berman thinking with Voyager” or “What was Berman thinking with Enterprise”, or just simply “What was Berman thinking”.

But as a small note to editors – Ontario is the second largest province in Canada. Saying this concert is for “fans in and around Ontario” is the equivalent of saying a show in San Diego is for all fans in California – if California was 2.5 times the size it actually is.
But again, appreciate the listing. This fan in Ontario would attend if I wasn’t still 500 km away.
