Last year Star Trek: The Next Generation’s Gates McFadden jumped into the world of podcasting with InvestiGates: Who Do You Think You Are? The first season wrapped up in late 2021 and TrekMovie can exclusively announce there will be another season. We also have details on some of the Star Trek guests she has lined up and an exclusive video from Gates herself about the news.

Today NacelleCast, The Nacelle Company’s podcasting division, announced the critically acclaimed hit podcast series Gates McFadden InvestiGates: Who Do You Think You Are? has been renewed for a second season. And the show will continue to feature frank conversations with McFadden and guests from the world of Star Trek. The second season includes interviews with William Shatner, Kate Mulgrew, Anson Mount, Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, John Billingsley, and others.
McFadden tells TrekMovie:
Just like the camping song I sang as a kid—Season Two is silver and gold—I’m making new friends, but honoring some longtime ones as well. Old friends from Voyager, Enterprise, and The Original Star Trek. And new friends from Discovery, Lower Decks, and Strange New Worlds.

It was one of my career highlights to work with Gates on the first season of InvestiGates, and so it’s safe to say I’m ecstatic about working with her on a second season.
In season one, Gates McFadden took an in-depth dive into the close personal friendships with her Next Generation castmates Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Marina Sirtis, Brent Spiner, Wil Wheaton, and friends from other Trek shows. The 15 episodes are more like intimate conversations between McFadden and her guest, each filled with stories of youth, family, and the cast’s intertwined experiences that can range from hilarious to the harrowing.

Wonderful news! I feel like Gates tipped us off that this was coming with some of her Tweets, but official news is good news! I so enjoyed the first season and learned a LOT about these actors and some BTS folks as well. It was a pleasure to listen to and I am looking forward to more with Season 2! Well done, Gates!
This is awesome news! And the second season looks great! But there is still a Patrick Stewart-sized hole in that line up. She interviewed the entire TNG cast except Patrick so far, but maybe in a third season?
Anyway, I love her podcast and am excited for more.

That’s the problem with being old, and not to terribly tech savvy…..I have no idea how to access a podcast. I’m guessing there’s an app for that, too.
Hi Phil, if you have an Android (or most likely Apple) phone the app is already there. I don’t have an iphone but have an Android and it has an app called Google podcasts that the article mentions. I assume it’s the same for Apple too. Just go to your app drawer and look it up, it should be there and basically every podcast is there. I actually listen to Trekmovie’s All Access podcast there because I can download it.

And I just started listening to podcasts regularly this year. They are especially great to listen to when you’re commuting if you don’t want to hear just music or talk radio all the time.
Even on SiriusXM, talk radio is mostly a wasteland. Alex Jones’ wannabe’s everywhere, all trying to be the next Rush Limbaugh.
I had to make a run into LA this weekend, listened to the episodes with Nana Visitor, John deLancie, and some with Michael Dorn. Without spoiling anything: I’ve been mispronouncing Ms. Visitors name for twenty-five years. It’s “Nah-Nah”, not “Nay-Nah”. I did not know Mr. deLancie sails solo. I did not know Michael Dorn is a pilot.
It’ll be interesting to see how Gates McFadden handles the upcoming Shatner podcast. I so to very contrasting styles there….stay tuned, I guess.
I don’t even have SiriusXM, too cheap to buy it. I’ll listen to talk radio here and there but not much. And yeah I only listen to the left wing ones lol. But now I been spending the last few months listening to the Delta Flyer podcast anytime I have to commute. I’ve learn so much about Voyager and just the process of film making in general; especially since Robbie Duncan McNeill is a full time director. Its fun to hear his take on how episodes are shot or little tricks of the trade he picked up making Voyager he uses on other shows.
It’s funny you are just hearing Visitor’s first name all this time. My first Star Trek convention waaaay back in 1996, I saw her on stage with several other DS9 cast members and they joked how they all had the hardest names among all the Trek shows that people got wrong all the time, especially Rene Auberjonois. So you’re definitely not alone. ;)
Didn’t know deLancie sailed either but I did know Michael Dorn was a pilot. I learned that waaaaay back in 1994 when Entertainment Tonight did a special on TNG when the show was ending. They actually did an interview with Dorn at an airplane hangar talking about how much he loves to fly planes. But he was a little upset at the time because Paramount didn’t allow him to fly since they were making Generations then. I guess when he’s just making a TV show they don’t mind he could fly into a mountain at any time; but when it’s a movie, you protect your actors like no one’s business.
But glad you are enjoying the world of podcast now! And there is tons of it for Star Trek as you’re now discovering.

Yeah, that seemed a bit of an odd phrasing to me, too, but what do I know.
It’s really great to see Gates McFadden so involved with Star Trek again. With this podcast, narrating and producing the History Channel Star Trek documentary special and of course her character being a part of Prodigy and Picard next season she’s been back in the Star Trek universe full throttle.
I haven’t listened to her podcast yet but plan to in the future. I’m currently listening to the Delta Flyers with Garret Wang and Robert Duncan McNeill reviewing every Voyager episode and it’s tons of fun. I recommend any hardcore Voyager fans to try that one as well. It’s really good.
I really enjoyed the first season of her podcast. It never came across as Gates “interviewing” anyone, it just felt like conversations between friends.
What ever happened to the Trek history show she produced? I saw the first episode (which was way too heavy on Lucille Ball) and never saw another episode.
I am pretty sure all parts have been released, although some were run on TV while others were released on streaming only.
It was a limited run, I’m sure it will turn up somewhere. Ms. McFadden likes to explore the tangents around Trek, so the first episode being heavy on Lucille Ball isn’t surprising. I rather enjoyed it.

Shatter was always so adamant that he doesn’t go on Podcasts. But I saw him on Bill Maher and now he’ll be on this one. I wonder what changed.

Both. Shatner was willing to peddle Nimoy’s friendship for a buck, and continued to do so after he died. So there’s that…..
