Sci Fi Channel Changes Name to ‘SyFy’ — Really?

Starting in July, if you tune to the Sci Fi Channel to watch reruns of Star Trek The Next Generation or Star Trek Enterprise or Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica you will notice that the channel has a new name ‘SyFy.’ NBC Universal announced the change this morning saying that it will ‘broaden the appeal’ of the network. Really?

Harlan Ellison Sues Paramount – Alleges Unpaid Merchandising Royalties March 15, 2009

Harlan Ellison has filed a lawsuit over what he claims are unpaid residuals stemming from his classic Star Trek episode “City on the Edge of Forever”. The episode is often ranked among the top episodes in Star Trek history, and Ellison, according to a press release, “wants every penny of his long ago agreed-upon share of the revenue from Paramount’s relentless Trek exploitations.”

Kellogg’s Begins New Star Trek Movie Promotion

In another sign of what a big event the new Star Trek movie is, we can now add the name Kellogg’s to the growing list of big promotional partners Paramount has lined up. The first Kellogg’s products with Star Trek promotional imagery (and giveaways) have just started appearing in stores, with more expected in the future.
