A couple of weeks ago Star Trek’s William Shatner revealed that for his The Captains documentary he chose to start off his interview with Star Trek’s Chris Pine with some arm-wrestling. Today the first image of this Kirk v Kirk moment has been revealed, check it out.

Kirk v Kirk

Today EPIXHD sent out the following preview image from The Captains via Twitter.

Its Kirk Prime v Kirk 2.0

A couple weeks ago in an interview with, Shatner described the arm-wresting moment:

He’s shy. So the way I started the interview, I put out a table and chairs outside the Paramount gates, and arm-wrestled with him. That was the beginning of my interview with him. I think it broke the ice, that’s for sure.

1. THS - June 24, 2011

It’s not like he hasn’t fought with himself before! LOL!

2. USS Enterprise B - June 24, 2011

Seeing this picture just makes me wonder the chemistry they could have had on screen if Kirk Prime was in the sequel. Oh well.

3. Sybok's Secret Brother - June 24, 2011

4. AquariusNX01 - June 24, 2011

This pic is full of win~

5. M Campbell - June 24, 2011

I think there is still a chance if they are willing to explore the option in the third film. Perhaps as a way to reset the time line and still allow the 2.0 crew to complete missions unseen on the series or in between films? There are so many possibilities.

6. Commodore Mike of the Terran Empire - June 24, 2011

My money is on Shat to win,. Go Shat go!!

7. dmduncan - June 24, 2011

Hilarious. Probably just a ploy by Shatner to work that voodoo soul switching trick he’s been working on…y’know…Pine ends up in his body while he transfers to Pine’s.

He’ll do anything to get in the sequel.

8. Vultan - June 24, 2011

Turnabout Intruder: Part Deux!

9. John Trumbull - June 24, 2011

10. Basement Blogger - June 24, 2011

Bill. Chirs. Funny stuff. Made me smile.

11. Bringbacktrekagain! - June 24, 2011

Kewl….and yes….you can read a lot into it.

12. Keachick (rose pinenut) - June 24, 2011

It’s a tie! Neither will want the other one to lose…

13. Andy Patterson - June 24, 2011

I like # 4’s comment.

And after only seeing the pic and not even reading the article….I say again…..I love Shatner.

14. dmduncan - June 24, 2011

We know how it ends. Kirk wins.

15. Keachick (rose pinenut) - June 24, 2011

That’s right, of course. Kirk does not believe in a no-win scenario!

I have to say that Shatner and Pine look great together, but then why wouldn’t the two guys who play(ed) “my captain” so well look good? Lovely sunny day as well, I see. That always helps.

16. jr - June 24, 2011

What would the Department of Temporal Investigations say?

17. Dee - lvs moon' surface - June 24, 2011

:-) :-)

18. Magic_Al - June 24, 2011

If they both c̶h̶e̶a̶t̶, I mean, change the conditions of the test, it’s a fair fight!

19. Ivory - June 24, 2011

WTF is wrong with you guys who continue to not have Shatner involved in Star Trek? Don’t get me wrong, I love what you guys did with the first film, but having Shatner in the new film is a no-brainer

Give Kirk Prime the ending he deserves before it’s too late.

20. XMind - June 24, 2011

This is Priceless!

21. moauvian waoul- aka: seymour hiney - June 24, 2011

22. Ron - June 24, 2011

I hope I am as active as The Shat at 80 as he. It’s a confirmation that you have to love what you do in life to be that active and engaging and energized to go after life’s personal pursuits.

23. Matthias from Germany - June 24, 2011

I AM CAPTAIN KIRK – no, i am captain kirk – NO I AM CAPTAIN KIRK – i am …

24. Jack - June 25, 2011

Why aren’t they shirtless?

25. - June 25, 2011

Who’s your daddy.

26. Basement Blogger - June 25, 2011

Peter Falk died yesterday. PBS did a story with a clip from Columbo. The clip features Columbo nailing the Shat. And if you watch it, William Shatner really has a real presence or as some of you Shat haters would say overbearing presence. Check out the clip from PBS below.

Columbo nails William Shatner.

27. Canon Schmanon - June 25, 2011

Fun photo! I bet Shatner even went to Admiral Nogura to regain command of the new Enterprise, but it looks like he’s finally made peace with having to hand over center seat.

28. AJ - June 25, 2011

“I can’t believe I kissed you…”

“Must’ve been your life-long ambition!”

29. Geekette - June 25, 2011

Love the Columbo clip!

30. captain_neill - June 25, 2011

That Columbo clip was great. Really sad to hear about Peter Falk

Its a cool photos of the Shat and Pine having an arm wrestle. Looking forward to this docu.

WIll it be available on DVD?

31. natira - June 25, 2011

I hope you’ll get the international distribution!
Thanx for your engagement and work! I love to visit your site!

32. Toonloon - June 25, 2011

I know we don’t NEED Shatner in Trek 2, but looking at that picture can’t help you wonder just how amazing it would be to see Kirk Prime and Kirk up against each other.

33. Christopher Roberts - June 25, 2011

Shatner: “Queen to Queen’s level three, Captain Kirk?”

Quinto’s Spock is waiting over in the corner to see who wins, or recommends he shoot both of them, to ensure the safety of the Enterprise.

34. Christopher Roberts - June 25, 2011

That’s right! Bill for the Garth of Izar role, in (the Star Trek sequel) To Boldly Go…

35. Christopher Roberts - June 25, 2011

…and a cameo for Scott Bakula, as grouchy old Admiral Archer.

36. Christopher Roberts - June 25, 2011

Oh Bob, Bob? You guys need a hand with that script? Heh-heh. I’ve just figured out a whole storyline and a way to make this work. :-) ;-|

37. Aussie Ian - June 25, 2011

Shatner won, but only because he closed his eyes and imagined that he was breaking george Takei’s arm!

38. Commodore Mike of the Terran Empire - June 25, 2011

Shat Kirk won only because he used a portable agoniser on Pine Kirk.

39. KHAN 2.0 - June 25, 2011

someone should photostop a TWOK style uniform onto Shatner and the yellow shirt onto Pine and change the backdrop to the bar from ST09

closest we’ll get to shat in a nuTrek film

40. Fletch Gannon - June 25, 2011

I think the universe is going to break with these two meeting….it canna handle to Jim Kirk’s battlining out in the same space time continuum!

Cue in the ‘Amok Time’ battle music!

41. Sebastian S. - June 25, 2011

Took the words right out of my keyboard! : D

42. mike - June 25, 2011

43. James - June 25, 2011

Ok, now I feel like I can finally accept Chris Pine as the new Kirk. Abrams’s biggest mistake was not letting Shatner be involved with the movie.

44. Buzz Cagney - June 25, 2011

This is making news around and abouts…..

Not bad for an 80 year old!

45. trekker 5 - June 25, 2011

Well, this is awesome news!! Thank you Anthony!! And the pic is awesome as well!! Can’t wait for this!!

46. Captain Kathryn - June 25, 2011

As the two Kirks arm wrestle each other, the Kirk Prime says,”I’m Captain Kirk!”…in response Young Kirk replies,” No, I’m Captain Kirk!”…as this verbal tug of war continues on until Captain Kirk finally wins the match…whichever one that would be. ;-)

47. Sarah - June 25, 2011

If William Shatner starred in the next movie as an older Captain Kirk, I can absolutely see his character being a father figure to his younger self.

48. Cygnus-X1 - June 25, 2011

It’s like he’s looking into a mirror.

49. MikeTen - June 25, 2011

@48, it is amazing. The shape of their noses and jaw lines are similar. He could have played his grandfather or uncle.

50. MJ - June 25, 2011

@48. Yea, they are like twins separated by age only. Their profiles, every last detail about them…it’s just so creepy how much they look alike. Their facial expression, nuances in the way they speak, eyebrow movements, etc. It is like they are a clone of the same person.

51. Keachick (rose pinenut) - June 25, 2011

I don’t see such a similarity in features, body shape etc to the extent that William Shatner could be the older version of Chris Pine. However, Shatner could easily get away with playing an older male (Kirk) relative! Then again, we can thank the Star Trek 09 casting team for this. It is also hard not to believe that Zachary Quinto is not a close relative of Leonard Nimoy.

52. dmduncan - June 25, 2011

I dunno, give Pine that old 1960’s slick Kirk hairdo and I’d say it’s a decent match.

53. MJ - June 25, 2011

@51. Keachick, I was joking. :-)

54. Keachick (rose pinenut) - June 25, 2011

#52 Possibly. I have seen some pictures where someone has “morphed” an image of Chris Pine’s face with a 60’s picture of Shatner/Kirk’s face – very nice looking combination.

Anyway, please don’t do that to Chris Pine’s hair. I guess you could call that kind of “brylcreemed” hair do “slick” – (as in oil slick) – I suppose that’s one word for it. I remember my father having a similar style – so greasy and actually darkened his real hair colour…Ick. I actually thought my father had black hair but it was brown, similar to Pine’s hair colour!

You would also have to get Chris Pine to do a totally clean shave – I don’t think his skin likes too much of that.

There are some fashions that deserve the proverbial dumping…

(BTW I have seen Chris Pine’s hair a darker brown. Has he had it highlighted/coloured or is this lighter colour the result of his spending some time in the sun? He does not look so pale now and his arms look a bit tanned with those nice arm hairs much lighter in colour. I have a *thing* for his arm hairs, you see…:) – don’t ask…)

55. MJ - June 25, 2011

Keachick, it sounds like you have spent a lot time assessing Chris Pine’s looks. :-)

56. Charla - June 25, 2011

Looking forward to watching Captains!

57. Keachick (rose pinenut) - June 25, 2011

#55 Yes, well, they are not at all hard to assess…:)

58. Eclectrek - June 26, 2011

59. Weerd1 - June 26, 2011

“I’ve got to take him back… inside.. of me.”

Eww. Actually, forget I used that quote.

60. Neumann - June 26, 2011

Shatner played 20,000 Dollar Pyramid by himself, he can handle an armwrestling match…

But Chris Pine did stop an unstoppable train…

61. pissed off virgin vulcan basement nerd - June 26, 2011

My money is on Bill.

62. Keachick (rose pinenut) - June 26, 2011

As this picture goes global, I suspect the bookies will get busy…

63. Kevin - June 26, 2011

What if we’re not in the USA?

64. murt - June 26, 2011

haha they do look a bit similar in profile in this pic – Pine’s five head is the main difference.

65. Harry Ballz - June 26, 2011

Common sense tells you that Shatner would never win such a challenge and Pine would never make an old man look foolish and weak.

Not only is it a draw, but something that never should have been suggested in the first place!

Gosh, I wonder what self-absorbed thespian suggested it in the first place?

66. Paulaner - June 27, 2011

Nice to see the two having fun together.

67. CJS - June 27, 2011

What would’ve happened if the Enterprise had passed through the comet at Gamma Hydra IV after the transporter mishap on Alpha 177? It’s “The Enemy Within” meets “The Deadly Years.”

68. Lt. Bailey - June 27, 2011

Shatner has the edge, its the time honored expression of age and experience vs youth and….. well you know how it goes.

69. Keachick (rose pinenut) - June 27, 2011

Obviously some people take this arm-wrestle more seriously than others. This was play acting, pure and simple… I mean the two guys are actors, after all.

70. Katie G. - June 27, 2011

Re: #26. Basement Blogger

“Columbo nails William Shatner”… aka Ward Fowler aka Lt. Lucerne.

That’s the very episode we watched in memorium that night when we heard the news!!

It was good to see both of them.

It would have been SO GREAT to have Shatner in a cameo as Pine’s grandfather. But wishing don’t make it so. Sigh…………

Hey!! Now that there’s an alternate timeline, we can say he didn’t die in this timeline! He can have a small part near the end. Now there’s no excuse. Wink, wink, nudge, nudge…

Well, you guys (Bob and Alex) did change things just a tad, didn’t you?

71. Katie G. - June 27, 2011

Thank you for this article!!!! Well done. Love to see the two of them together finally.

72. AL - June 27, 2011

Shatner’s toup is showing it’s age

73. johnbijl - June 28, 2011

Wow. That looks like one hell of a transporter accident. Anyone been to Alfa 177 *and* Gamma Hydra IV by any chance?

74. Let Them Eat Plomeek Soup - June 29, 2011
