Michael Burnham Joins Paramount+ Expedition As Campaign Heads Toward “Mega-Stunt” [UPDATED]

We have been tracking the new Paramount+ campaign leading up to the relaunch of CBS All Access, home to the new streaming Star Trek shows. Today the campaign expanded with a new ad, and it was lead by Star Trek: Discovery’s Michael Burnham. There are also more details about what’s coming next.

Michael leads Paramount+ expedition’s latest promo

Previous TV spots for the Paramount+ campaign have featured Pike (Anson Mount) and Spock (Ethan Peck) from the upcoming series Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Tonight a new “expedition” campaign commercial arrived, and this time it featured Micheal Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) from Star Trek: Discovery leading the way with some other ViacomCBS family characters, albeit in her pre-Captain Burnham uniform. As with previous promos, “Ice Bridge” is narrated by Star Trek: Picard star Sir Patrick Stewart.

UPDATE: Michael has to deal with Beavis and Butt-head

On Tuesday Paramount released a follow-up to the same add called “Ice Bridge ‘Crack'” which adds Beavis and Butt-head to the mix.

3-phase campaign with “mega-stunt” on launch day

Today Ad Week outlined new details for the 13-week Paramount+ campaign. The “expedition” promotions are just the first of a three-phase campaign, with phase one culminating with the Super Bowl this weekend. Paramount+ will feature “prominently” during the telecast, and this will be coupled with “digital and social support, talent participation, paid efforts and even some in-game stunts and content teases.”

The second phase kicks off on Super Bowl night with a new series of ads “highlighting the depth and breadth of the service’s programming” starting during the postgame premiere of The Equalizer and the Super Bowl special edition of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. This second phase will continue through February, culminating with The Grammy Awards in March.

Ad Week reports that Paramount+ is planning a “mega-stunt” on launch day, March 4th. That will be part of the third phase of the campaign, which will highlight Paramount+ original series, including trailers for upcoming shows. The campaign will continue into March Madness and through to mid April.

Where’s Ensign Mariner or any of the Cerritos crew?? No offense, but I actually trust her to lead this pack instead of Burnham.

They seem to be rotating different actors and characters in and out.

But always a Trek character in every one.

Seems like there’s a way to go to get to the top of the mountain. Perhaps Mariner and Boimler may make an appearance yet.

Animated Janeway might show up for PRODIGY

Mariner would be bitching and moaning all the way up the mountain, and the rest of the characters would try to lose her.

I don’t know… I think I’d take any of the others over any of the SH Trek people.

Of course, you can’t climb a mountain without Burnham. The rest would never make it without her,

And everyone would be on awe of her superior intellect and they would all burst into tears and have a group hug

Bestest Evar!

Don’t quit your day job, bubbie, because the Improv is not calling you back. LOL

Sonequa as Michael is excellent. I can’t wait for season 4 of Star Trek Discovery.

Agreed!

I love her.

Cool! Hopefully we would see The Astronauts, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the Power Rangers in more Paramount Plus “Expedition” commercials. Same with Garfield. Sure, the Power Rangers are owned by Hasbro.

Garfield and Friends was delightful. CBS Saturday mornings were a great refuge for 80s and 90s kids!

I wouldn’t follow Burnham into my own driveway….

It’s dangerous to shed tears in an arctic environment! She needs to keep control. No crying!

Trailer parks have driveways now?

What a sad little individual you are.

Are you hoping Kurtzman will give you a producer credit on Discovery… actually, he does give them out like candy, so you might be on to something.

stop with the personal attacks.
final warning.

trolling. closed

Either this (or any of these) promos were filmed before the airing of the final episode of S3 of Disco to be consistent with a familiar uniform over the past 3 seasons. Or they are hinting at something to come for Burnham in the upcoming S4. My bet is on that Paramount is just using which ever costume is on hand to film these ads. A possible red herring for the Trek world to speculate on until S4 airs.

Anyone who thinks these promos have anything to do with the actual series is smoking something really incredible. Royal Gorilla, maybe? Hulkberry? Let me know, i’d love to try it!

You mentioned it yourself: The most likely reason she’s wearing the season 1-3 uniform is because that’s what people are most familiar with.

Can see Sonequa’s baby bump :)

I noticed the post, and the first thought in my head was “great, I bet some folks are b**ching about it all ready”. ……and I’m not wrong, I see.

Yea, and it’s both nasty and pathetic.

Never bitching about SMG or the cast.

But WILL bitch at poor writing every day of the week.

Which is what people *are* bitching about. The way her character is written, not the actress. People know that and just want to be a proxy victim for an issue that does not exist.

Mega Cringe!

Wrong Unifrom.

Huh, huh, huh…she said “crack”

They pull in Thomas Lennon for a Reno 911 gag… but Paramount+ doesn’t have rights to the newest seasons. Bizarre. Paramount Mountain is more like an island of misfit toys.

Did not know that. I heard Reno 911 was getting a streaming return but had no idea which one. Seeing him in this promo caused me to think it was this one. Weird.

Is Reno 911 coming back?

WTF? Why is DJ Khaled there? Does Paramount own him now?

God help me… The Beevis and Butthead thing had me laughing the entire run.

And note… It was funnier than ANYTHING they did on LDX.
