Great Links: April Fools Day Edition April 1, 2011

by Anthony Pascale , Filed under: Great Links,Humor , trackback

April Fools Day is as good a time as any to bring back The Great Links with a look at the few online Star Trek pranks today. And keeping with the funnies, we take a look at some recent Star Trek themed web comics and some funny new video mashups. So dive in below.

Trek Fools Day

As noted on our Twitter feed in our first article of the day, TrekMovie did not do a prank today (yes that planned Paramount Theme Park in Spain is real). And unlike last year, it was pretty quiet for Star Trek-themed pranks around the web. Here are links to a few

Note, if you saw any more Star Trek-themed gags, send in a tip!

Foolish Star Trek comics

In honor of April Fool’s Day, here is a collection of recent web comics with a Star Trek theme (click images to see full sizes).

Cracked: Best View On The Enterprise

Louder than Bombs: Teen Worf

VG Cats: Boldly Went

Shoe Box Blog: Stormtroopers and Red Shirts

Bigeyedeer: Spock’s Massage (not new, but been going around Twitter in last week)

Image of the Week: Mugatu Wookie?

This week brought a fairly foolish but fun Star Wars/Star Trek mashup image with Starfleet officer Han Solo and his Mugatu sidekick Chewbacca (via Phil Noto).

Videos of the Week: Growing Pains: TNG

For our foolish videos of the week here are a couple of new entries in the sub-genre of opening theme mashups. First up is Star Trek: The Next Generation mashed with the sitcom Growing Pains (via explevel2).

Our second theme mashup is all Shatner, with TJ Hooker opening mashed up with scenes from the TOS era movies to give you "TJ Hooker in the 23rd Century" (from ironhandz1).

1. Phil - April 1, 2011

Like the Star Wars/Star Trek mashup. How come we don’t see any of the Trek characters in the Star Wars universe…or have I not been paying attention?

6. Commodore Mike of the Terran Empire - April 1, 2011

Hmmm. Looks like someone is censoring on here. I wonder if Anthony censored the report from the Terran Empire.
Some funny things on here. Love Han Solo and Chewy with Star Trek Shirt and Phaser Rifle. Funny.

7. I'm Dead Jim! - April 1, 2011

I’d like to see that Star Wars/Trek artwork on a t-shirt! Get that to TeeFury!

8. Tiberius III - April 1, 2011

Captain Stiles: “I’m winning!!!”

9. boborci - April 1, 2011

Script s done!

10. sci-fi bri - April 1, 2011

“boborci – April 1, 2011 ”

April 1, 2011

nice one.

hey bob, any thought as to a KHAAN teaser at the end of this one?

11. Bill Peters - April 1, 2011

Bob are you Serious or not?

12. Justin Toney - April 2, 2011

Lol @ Bob

13. Keachick - April 2, 2011

Please, boborci, no April Fools Day joke! Seriously? The script is done and it’s a little beauty? Have you been good to my captain, as in him having some mutual good loving? How’s the casting going for that beagle puppy?

Very exciting with no doubt lots of (nail biting) action, intrigue, fun, laughs and inevitably tinged with some sadness and grief as well. Such is the bitter/sweetness of life…

14. Remington Steele - April 2, 2011

Bob….if this is an April fools joke you are in BIG trouble:-)

So you’re gonna let the loyal readers of trekmovie proof read it yeah?

15. CmdrR - April 2, 2011

9 — And it stars Erica Durrance, right??

16. Admiral Hooker - April 2, 2011

that Star Wars thing is great…someone should do Trek in the style of Wars (i.e the SW film poster –

loving TJ in the 23rd Century as well…actually when i saw Trek 09 and Kirks big jump in the Narada reminded me of Hookers opening slo mo roof jump

i wonder if they still gonna make the TJ movie?

17. Commodore Mike of the Terran Empire - April 2, 2011

Hmm. Star Trek Phase 3 Staring T.J. Hooker as Capt Harriman.

18. CmdrR - April 2, 2011

16 – Wait, let me nudge Heather and see what she knows….

19. jas_montreal - April 2, 2011

Mugatu Wookie !!!!!!!!!

Bob, what kind of creatures are in the Trek sequel ? Is there gonna be a Mugatu ? It better be kick ass like the lobster monster in trek 09′.

20. Hat Rick - April 2, 2011

Too funny! :-)

21. Hat Rick - April 2, 2011

Also, Han Solo would make a great character in the Trek universe as a civilian smuggler who helps out the Feds once in a while. Harrison Ford is a great actor. Even at his current age, he could make it work.

Han Solo Ford rocks.

22. AJ - April 2, 2011

Some have said that the white hairy beast singing “Friday” on “Late Night” with Stephen Colbert and Jimmy Fallon towards the end is a Mugatu.

23. Commodore Mike of the Terran Empire - April 2, 2011

C3p0 is now going to be playing the role of Data in the next Tng movie.

24. Commodore Mike of the Terran Empire - April 2, 2011

Worf will be played by Chebacca.

25. Lt. Daniels - April 2, 2011

Just went to see “Source Code” and it reminds me a bit of “Quantum Leap”. At the end though credits it says Scott Bakula voice of Colter’s father. Colter talks to his father on the cell phone in the movie, but you never see his father in the movie.

26. Commodore Mike of the Terran Empire - April 2, 2011

30. Anthony Pascale - April 2, 2011

Note the date of Bob’s post and subject of this article.

I expect we will do an article when Trek passes its next milestone

31. Commodore Mike of the Terran Empire - April 2, 2011

Bob. Did not buy that even for one Second. But good try.

32. Keachick - April 2, 2011

#30 Yes, I have noted date and subject title. This clearly means that it is the Agoniser booth for Mr Orci until further notice. Finalisation of the script and and will be done from the booth. That’ll teachya…;)

33. Harry Ballz - April 2, 2011

15. “And it stars Erica Durance, right??”

Hey, if you’re going to cast a HORSE in the next movie………….

………then Shatner SHOULD be in it!

Uh, you know, with him being an equestrian and all…

34. Harry Ballz - April 2, 2011

9. boborci “Script’s done”

“…..and if my grandmother had wheels, she’d be a wagon!”

35. Keachick - April 2, 2011

Edit again: “…script CAN and will done…” Just to reiterate….:)

36. Red Dead Ryan - April 2, 2011

Sorry, I don’t see the writers remaking “Generations”…..

37. Keachick - April 2, 2011

#36 Anything is possible, given the subject of this thread. Yikes.
