Great Links: April Fools Day Edition April 1, 2011by Anthony Pascale , Filed under: Great Links,Humor , trackback
April Fools Day is as good a time as any to bring back The Great Links with a look at the few online Star Trek pranks today. And keeping with the funnies, we take a look at some recent Star Trek themed web comics and some funny new video mashups. So dive in below.
Trek Fools Day
As noted on our Twitter feed in our first article of the day, TrekMovie did not do a prank today (yes that planned Paramount Theme Park in Spain is real). And unlike last year, it was pretty quiet for Star Trek-themed pranks around the web. Here are links to a few
- StarTrek.com: Interview with Porthos
- Roddenberry: Email announcing remastering of all Star Trek movies with new 3D effects and new animated character "Jar Har Har" + story on Skants "rocking New York fashion" (not on their site so no link)
- JoBlo: JJ Abrams sets aside Star Trek sequel to replace Spielberg for next Indiana Jones
Note, if you saw any more Star Trek-themed gags, send in a tip!
Foolish Star Trek comics
In honor of April Fool’s Day, here is a collection of recent web comics with a Star Trek theme (click images to see full sizes).
Cracked: Best View On The Enterprise
Louder than Bombs: Teen Worf
VG Cats: Boldly Went
Shoe Box Blog: Stormtroopers and Red Shirts
Bigeyedeer: Spock’s Massage (not new, but been going around Twitter in last week)
Image of the Week: Mugatu Wookie?
This week brought a fairly foolish but fun Star Wars/Star Trek mashup image with Starfleet officer Han Solo and his Mugatu sidekick Chewbacca (via Phil Noto).
Videos of the Week: Growing Pains: TNG
For our foolish videos of the week here are a couple of new entries in the sub-genre of opening theme mashups. First up is Star Trek: The Next Generation mashed with the sitcom Growing Pains (via explevel2).
Our second theme mashup is all Shatner, with TJ Hooker opening mashed up with scenes from the TOS era movies to give you "TJ Hooker in the 23rd Century" (from ironhandz1).
