See 7 New Photos From ‘Star Trek: Picard’ Season 1, Episode 4

Ahead of the new episode which debuts on Thursday, and in addition to the previously released photos, CBS has released a handful of new photos. In this episode, Elnor (Evan Evagora) joins the crew. This is also the first of two episodes directed by Jonathan Frakes.

Title: “Absolute Candor”

Synopsis:

The crew’s journey to Freecloud takes a detour when Picard orders a stop at the planet Vashti, where Picard and Raffi relocated Romulan refugees 14 years earlier. Upon arrival, Picard reunites with Elnor (Evan Evagora), a young Romulan he befriended during the relocation. Meanwhile, Narek continues his attempts to learn more about Soji while Narissa’s impatience with his lack of progress grows.

Promotional photos

Soji and Narek have a talk over a bottle of Romulan ale.

Fans will not doubt notice the iconic Romulan ale prop in the shot of Soji and Narek above, used since The Wrath of Khan as the container of choice for Romulan ale.

Curious, how it will turn out…

I can’t believe that 1701 bridge is just sitting there in Toronto. All these Romulan have me wishing they could do a Robert April miniseries of Diane Carey’s Final Frontier (back from the days Romulan’s were mysterious had plasma weapons and the only ones with cloak)

Oh, I don’t think that set will be idle too much longer. I don’t have any secret insight into their thinking, but CBSAA is a business, and Alex Kurtzman is pretty savvy. You may not like the way he runs the franchise (I think he’s doing a great job), but you have to agree that he’s engaged with the fans. He’s acknowledged the groundswell from viewers who want to see more adventures with Pike, Una, and Spock, and CBSAA is surely aware of this as well. I will be shocked if we *don’t* hear about some sort of follow-up before year’s end.

That set is in storage.

It looks like that set may have been taken out of storage! This is a quote from Rebecca Romijn during a recent interview with fashion magazine The Daily Front Row:

”I’ve also been working on Star Trek here and there, but I can’t really talk about that.”

Rebecca’s interview was referenced in an article posted on “Trek Today” at the Trek BBS.

NICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)

More likely she will show up again on Discovery or Section 31. I never believed that Discovery wouldn’t go back to the 23rd.

If Discovery was moved into the future to keep away from cannon, why would they make a show smack dab in the center of Cannon?

She might be set to star in the Starfleet Academy show. A great way to explain what happened to her character after Enterprise.

Looks like things are really going to ramp up on Thursday… can’t wait!

Really digging this series so far. And at the risk of making a purely superficial observation, my Great Bird but this is an almost distractingly handsome/gorgeous cast. Even the background actors are noticeably noticeable.

I’m still holding out hope that the producers managed to sneak Brian Brophy onto the set and will be able to keep his appearance under wraps until he’s revealed.

I think I’m going to watch the first three in succession again and then go right into this one, maybe get that narrative ‘punch’ the weekly releases are weakening (imo).

Yes, that ale bottle is a nice callback..

Fun filled fact: “Vashti” is the name of one of the characters from the story of the Jewish holiday Purim. Chabon is Jewish and this trick (using Hebrew names/words for exotic alien languages/names) is an old trick used by writers amongst through out the franchise. Case in point, in “The Inner Light”, the planet name Katan is also the Hebrew word for “small” . Not to mention that the LLAP hand sign is actually an old orthodox hand gesture from High Holiday services. The list goes on and on….

Can I also say that Rios’s captain’s chair looks pretty comfy?

In that outfit, Picard looks like he’s about to welcome everyone to Jurassic Park

Jurassic Park? To me it has that “delicious” Antebellum Southerner / Colonialist vibe TPTB surely were NOT going for when featuring a ‘refugee planet’ ;)

I was thinking he was gonna bring Opera to the jungle like Fitzcarraldo.

My first impression was Picard’s alter-ego in the final scene with his loved ones on Kataan in “The Inner Light” when he has his revelation of what the story is all about….. only he isn’t THAT old in ST:PIC, LOL.

He’s a 1980s Doctor Who shopping at Banana Republic. Totally Fits.

He’s there to sample fruit and, possibly, say “yes”.

What is Prime Lorca (disguised as Romulan no less!) doing behind sword-fighting Elnor? ;)

Dude, get your Vulcan glasses checked–that guy doesn’t even approximately look like Jason Issacs!

I too thought Isaacs for half a second.

I like Picard’s South American pimp hat.

Nice Kamin hat on Picard.

Is anyone else tracking Narek’s triangular ear cuff with a Romulan symbol?

It’s usually on the inner portion of the outer ear. I don’t see it in this still, and while we’re mostly seen it on the right ear, I think it appeared on the left ear at one point.

It’s got to be some kind of important symbol, but none of the other Zhat Vhaj seem to be wearing one.

I just wish Picard’s civilian costumes looked more futuristic. Bring back the deep V-necks he wore in TNG or something!

Then he would be wearing something 30 years out of style. Myself, unless it’s something really over the top I don’t let the wardrobe bother me all that much.

True, I love the show despite my issues with the costumes.

If it means anything, fashion tends to go through cycles and styles that frequently draw upon the past for design. In the last decades, clothes have become more form-fitting than they have been in a half-century. I also see more young men in beards and waistcoats, something from over 100 years in the past.

Yeah because V necks are so cool.

I like that Soji has the facial bone structure of an MMA fighter.

That hat really kills me lol. For some reason I’m not looking to this one as the others (but of course excited in general). No reason why other than it’s the one I know the least about compared to the first three, so hopefully I will be surprised.

Im waiting for the big twist, how xyz is really synths and the blonde doctor is a spy for the romulan sunglasses chick.

Is this the one in which Rios plays football? I’m excited.

Lord of the Rings? Where’s Gandalf?

Yeah… He’s looking more like he’s from Rivendale rather than Romulus.

Agreed. =P

Regarding the lack of futuristic design of Picard’s wardrobe, it’s like me dressing like an 18th Century dandy in the 21st Century. Come on designers, step out of the box!

“Dandy,” that cracked me up. Nice.
