Mariner’s reaction that Barb must be a holodeck character or a malevolent alien-in-disguise is such a classic Trek twist on the colleague/friend’s mistrust of someone’s romantic interest.

Plus we know that relationships with off-ship characters rarely go well.

Let’s see how many tropes can be upended in one episode.

I’m looking forward to this.

Boimler’s new girlfriend feels fake and suspicious. Maybe she’s a telepathic shape shifting alien or something. That will end badly.

Boimler’s new girlfriend looks suspicious alright. Mariner is up to something…

Too bad I can’t watch the episode. My CBS All Access subscription expired over the weekend.

I will watch Lower Decks again right around when Star Trek: Discovery season 3 comes out in October.

By then I will need to watch two Star Trek shows. Discovery season 3 and Lower Decks. Can’t wait to do that.

Mariner is definitely suspicious. My guess is that the joke will be that there is nothing unusual or nefarious about Boimler’s girlfriend, despite a bunch of evidence that leads us to believe that there is.

There will only be 6 Lower Decks episodes left which you can binge in one evening.

im pacing myself a bit but i just finished episode two… loving it so far.

Pacing tom riker? We’ve got one new Trek episode a week through the end of the year…why wait?

(Plus there’s a lot of fantastic Trek-lit to keep one going. If you haven’t tried the Vanguard series or Destiny trilogy, indulge.)

pacing as in waiting for a good day to watch not hording… though when it comes to discovery i hate doing one at a shot but i will be there for the preem for sure…

Makes sense.

My spouse takes the same approach : it gives the an excuse to rewatch.

I feel like that Geordi bear with the VISOR was a real thing, but my Google-fu is failing me. Does anybody else remember seeing a teddy bear like that before?

That teddy bear does sound familiar, but unfortunately my Google-fu is failing me as well. And some of those stuffed Trek toys that I saw in my search will give me nightmares for a while…

I can’t prove it, but I’m 100% certain someone has made this before. I mean, c’mon, Teddy LaForge? Someone has to have done it already.

I’m enjoying this show but my nit picky beef with this series is it’s Captain. While Ransome redeemed himself a few episodes ago, LDS is relying on making Captain’s other than Kirk or Picard weak to make Kirk and Picard seem stronger. (Captain Harriman?) Yes, this is a comedy and Freeman doesn’t have to be the best Captain in the fleet but she should at least be competent. We can still have comedy without having a lame Captain. I hope Freeman gets a chance to redeem herself this season

This show, little by little, is giving me (so much needed) joy about Star Trek. After watching the previous 4 episodes, I think I am accepting this show way much better than before. I enjoy the characters very much. Also, the silly jokes and the easter eggs…not to mention, this show is more STNG than Picard, something that I really like.

Picard was never supposed to be TNG in the first place.

I agree. I’m not really interested in Picard or Discovery after what I’ve seen of them, but Lower Decks is just FUN and I get the vibe the writers actually like Trek.

I just love the fact practically every episode we not only get various aliens but new aliens as well which it look like we are getting here. What makes animation great, they can make as many as they want.

It’s not just the aliens, it’s a diversity of different ships and planets.

I’ve been really surprised by how few different new ship designs we’ve had in Discovery and Picard given the budgets for vfx. We really haven’t seen the diversity of design and behind-the-scenes creativity in some of the live-action series that Kurtzman has been promising strategically. Meanwhile, it sounds like both Lower Decks and Prodigy have the freedom to push the envelope.

It makes me wonder if Eaves was given some kind of exclusive right or right of first refusal for all Starfleet ships when Fuller was the initial showrunner.

(Likewise, I’m wondering why they went back to Todd Cherniawski for production design on Picard after the negative reaction and the need for walkback/adaptation by Tamara Deverell on Discovery.).

By contrast, the animated series and shorts have engaged different animation houses and talent. This return to the same design people for live-action, despite a strategy of having different looks and feels for different series, has the air of renegotiating contractual understandings, not just of unconsciously being stuck in a bubble of comfortable relationships.

So agreed! I think that’s another reason why I been disappointed in Discovery and definitely Picard, its a lack of diversity as you said. And yes in terms of the design of the universe, not people. ;)

And I don’t pretend to know the behind the scenes stuff the way you do. For example I don’t know most of those people you just mentioned lol. I do know who Eaves is though. But its obvious McMahan really seems to be more independent and not tied to the same people as the live action shows. Maybe its because of the medium itself, just giving him the freedom to what he wants since it was his idea, etc but its the first show since Enterprise that feels a lot more lived in in the prime universe. And yes also a plethora of aliens again; which neither DIS or PIC had a lot of when compared to the classic shows at least. I mean on PIC they were literally bragging about the alien who could smell everything on Free Cloud since he was the first new alien presented on the show. And that was already episode 5. Did we even get anymore new aliens after him? I literally can’t remember.

Even on the ship, everyone is human minus Elnor. The last time we’ve only had one alien in the main cast was TOS. It’s definitely not the days of DS9 and VOY where aliens made up half the cast.

There’s an android, 2 if you count Picard ;-) The crew of La Sirena is smaller than the main cast of previous shows. If you count Narek and his sister as series regulars the balance is probably closer to what we’re used to. I’m guessing the Romulan siblings will be gone in season 2 so let’s see what they add in terms of new characters to the show.

Getting new Aliens each week is easy when all you have to do is draw them.

Seriously, I asked you multiple times now. I don’t care about your opinion at all about anything. You know I don’t want to talk to you but you keep responding. Why? Give me a real adult answer and not just a troll one. IF you can do that, then maybe I can take you seriously and rethink my position since its obviously bothering you I don’t interact with you. The funny thing is I know I WON’T get a real response from you and exactly WHY I ignore you now. But prove me wrong for a change, huh? So here is your chance. Really. This should be interesting.

But if you can’t do that, just give me a real response instead of more trolling, then just ignore me man because I’m this close to asking the moderators to intervene now.

So Mariner’s conspiracy wall is about Boimler’s girlfriend. Looks like she’s one of those blonde twins at the bottom too.

Wow, Mariner’s really worked up about it, huh? You know, not because she’s not jealous of her or anything though. >_>

Yeah it is funny, she is acting like a jealous person. Many people seem to think this relationship will be more of a brother-sister one but it does make you wonder?
