The alternate Starfleet, “the end of the road not taken,” and the Bajoran Reckoning artifact in the first teaser keep bringing me back to a trilogy of novels written by Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens in the late 90s (the “Millennium” books), where the DS9 crew are thrown into the year 2400 and work with an elderly Admiral Picard to prevent the wormhole beings from ending existence with their conflict.
It’s almost certainly a coincidence, but they did a very loose adaptation of “Control” for Discovery season 2, so it makes me wonder.
The moment you mentioned them coming dangerously close to WWIII, I had an inkling what this could be about.
We know that Q somehow linked himself to the post atomic horror before. What if the timeline we get is a result of meddling with WWIII not taking place, being altered or postponed? If WWIII is supposed to start in 2026 according to Star Trek and Nostradamus, this may very well be set in the near future… I’m wondering if they are so bold to even connect Q to the enimatic Q anon figure in real life…That very idea gives me the shivers… given all the repercussions and implications that could mean…
The alternative Starfleet with its black uniforms and mirrorish insignia may be the result of WWIII not happening and mankind not learning their lesson from it.
This may very well be linked to Q meddling with history or tricking someone into changing the past. If the Eastern Coalition is indeed led by China it may even play into the “truth” behind Covid-19 and/or the Q’anon movement, the 2024 elections etc…
This timeline will not create “our” mirror universe but something close to it, a timeline in which Starfleet is a war-mongering power wearing all-black uniforms, using a sword in its pins and probably bringing down the Borg before they could even assimilate Annika Hanson.
Those are intriguing comcepts but being so close to those (still fictional) events makes it very difficult to keep any sort of allegorical distance…
What you describe would come very close to a retake on the City on the Edge of Forever concept. Fascinating thought.
Wow Garth, there have been a lot of interesting theories on what could be happening but yours is definitely the most interesting one I read so far. The fact that WW 3 never happened ended up making the future worse, not better is a really unique rabbit hole to go down.
I think the China/Covid/Qanon stuff might be a little too controversial to cover but I do think they can certainly delve into those types of issues.
*Very* interesting. I have read that (in an early example of Hollywood kowtowing to the PRC) the “Eastern Coalition” was indeed “China” in early drafts of FIRST CONTACT. It still fits in remarkably well with the Belt and Road initiative.
I do think that the big event that’s changed everything (if it’s one thing) will most likely be about a specific choice made by Picard. The show is really about him, so if the whole season is going to be about an alternate timeline, I imagine it’s centered around actions he took.
I wonder is Q will mention the events from the future timeline from All Good Things since it matches up closely to the Picard show.
It’s a bit better than the May 21 episode, where the audio levels between Tony and Laurie were way off. This time the audio level is just very inconsistent across the episode. At 52:00 Tony’s at -18db while Laurie and Tony both are at -6db, sometimes hitting the limit at about 24:30.
Love the pod, but I can’t really listen to it with headphones or on low volume, because on headphones it really hurts when the volume goes up so far and you can’t hear the low volume parts at the same time. Setting it to low volume non-dangerous levels the low volume parts are inaudible.
