‘The Orville’ Season 3 Release Date Announced—Watch “New Horizons” Teaser

After finally wrapping up production on its third season last month, The Orville is getting set to launch on its new streaming home in 2022. We have more details and the new teaser from Hulu.

The Orville arrives March 2022

After airing for two seasons on Fox, Seth MacFarlane’s homage to Star Trek: The Next Generation is moving to Hulu for what they are calling The Orville: New Horizons. This third season will arrive on Thursday, March 10, 2022, exclusively on Hulu in the USA. The rest of the 10-episode season will run weekly on Thursdays. There is no information yet on when it will arrive internationally, but TrekMovie has confirmed it will be available on Disney+ Star, which currently includes the first two seasons.

According to Hulu, The Orville: New Horizons “finds the crew of the U.S.S. Orville continuing their mission of exploration, as they navigate both the mysteries of the universe and the complexities of their own interpersonal relationships.”

Returning for season three are MacFarlane, along with Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald, Scott Grimes, Peter Macon, J. Lee, Mark Jackson, Chad L. Coleman, and Jessica Szohr. And Anne Winters joins the cast with a new character. Although not mentioned in the official release, Deadline reports that the recently passed Norm Macdonald will also return, as the voice of Yaphit.

I really enjoy this show — so I’m pretty excited. Plus I’ve finally figured out how to watch Hulu in Canada (shhh). :)

Please give hints. I have not been able to figure it out. Want to watch Orville in Canada but cannot find it.

Hmm looks like it will be out around the same time as SNW. Let’s hope their are no more delays in getting S3 back on the air (or on the web). It’s been a long time since the S2 finale so let’s hope the majority of fans haven’t decided “out of sight, out of mind”.

From the initial look of S3, it looks like it is going to be less of a dramedy and a more serious show – IMO that is an improvement. No matter what, overall the more science fiction out there, the better.

It should never stop being a comedy. If it just becomes a serious sci-fi drama, then its just a bad Star Trek clone. As a comedy, it is its own unique thing.

Fully agreed. As a comedy it was unique. As a space drama, it’s just a pale TNG clone.

But this still has to be said… Even a more dramatic Orville STILL had more jokes that landed in two episodes than the entire first season of LDX combined.

They all but abandoned the comedy after season 1. Season 2 had some laughs but they weren’t nearly as prevalent as they were in season 1. In fact, the problem with season one was that they leaned too far to the drama. They should have leaned more towards the comedy. Gone more like 65-35 in favor of the yuks. But in stead they were about 25-75 on the comedy side. Season two they went even further the other way. Perhaps 10% comedy 90% TNG clone.

It will never ever Stop Being a Comedy. It is the orville….

Except it did.

The bridge got a serious upgrade. I like it!

They got rid of the carpet :(

THE SETS GOT A MASSIVE FACELIFT.

I am consistently impressed by how The Orville is able to cause/inspire a sense of excitement, adventure, and wonder which the various modern Star Trek shows seem unable to do for me(fingers crossed for SNW).

And wow, that set update looks great! Looks like new everything in one way or another and yet you can tell it flows directly from its precursor without needing any mental leaps to justify!

Yeah. All I could think when watching the Discovery Season 4 Trailer was “what?! The same plot again?! 🙄”

This is just showing a chair and I’m excited 😁

Will be interesting to see, if SNW worlds drops an inspiring Teaser/Trailer and more importantly if the show is any good. But I doubt it. The Marketing is pretty much all the stuff they said before Picard and Discovery Seasons 2 und 3. Why would it be true this time? 🤷🏻‍♂️

I’m really glad the date for the third season has finally been announced, but I didn’t think that was much of a teaser, with only audio and an essentially static picture.

Are Adrianne Palicki and Scott Grimes still married to each other?

Well, that’s a weird personal story.

They reconciled, then filed again the summer of 2020, but split as friends on good terms and it was reported they have been very professional during the filming of Season 3 of “The Orville”.

Man, I completely forgot that Norm Macdonald was on this show.

I was going to write the exact same sentence. Was pretty nice that “The Connors” held up a tribute board in his honor at the end of this past Tuesday’s live show.

Easy to forget since he only showed up in perhaps 25-30% of the episodes.

Cool! I hope Disney’s 20th would release season three on home media, for I can’t reactivate my Hulu account. Hulu used to be a free service, but not anymore.

I miss the days of free Hulu with commercials. Here’s hoping for a BluRay release! (but i doubt it will happen)

They certainly are taking their time….

I wonder if that means they’ll release it all at once instead of weekly like on FOX.

The article says that new episodes are going to be released weekly.

That looks like a more sterile and less comfortable bridge design with all the blues and grays and a lack of beige and tan to warm it up. I wonder who’s decision that was.

And there was much rejoicing.

New Horizons!? Wow! The Bridge looks fantastic. Nice upgrade! Can’t wait to watch the new season. Every day, we got more (good) news for Trekkies and Trekkers.

The Orville is truly from the Berman era. A 1990 Star Trek show without the restraints and limitations. Good script, humor, and stories. Really like the tone they set at the end of Season 2. :P

It seems that there is no news on distribution outside the United States.

I dont see a reason it wouldnt be the same deals as when it was on the Fox proper – first run will probably go to the same partners and then it will go to Disney+/Star a short while later

In Canada, it was on CityTV.

That’s a smallish chain of what used to be independent television stations now owned by Global. Some what analogous to the CW in the US, but Global cut ties with the other media conglomerates here.

So, where the Orville will go now that it’s a streaming series isn’t obvious. When I decided to catch up on season one, it was only available for purchase on YouTube.

Update- with a bit more googling, I found stories saying that CityTV wanted to carry on with the Orville on broadcast, but also reports that the show is listed for Disney Star for Canada.

Still not entirely clear.

I enjoy this show and I want it to continue but lets be honest has there ever been a show that had this much time between season that survived? (maybe some HBO shows back in the day) But this is not a prestige HBO drama so I have a feeling this will either be the last season or they are gonna get one more year to wrap up things after this. The momentum is just gone and I don’t think many people will remember that the show is still airing. Of course I’d love to be wrong in this instance as I absolutely enjoy the show.

In fact there has been! And it was Seth Macfarlane’s show back then too – Family Guy!

Different circumstance. Family Guy was actually cancelled then got new life on DVD. It became so popular that FOX actually revived it. By contrast, The Orville was never canceled. Just moved networks.

Now if you want to say something about the failed longevity of shows that have swapped networks then you are on to something…

There is at least one show that has “swapped networks” and is still airing some 7 years later.. and it also was created by Seth – American Dad

(Yes, yes, it’s animated..)

True. It does seem to have gotten new life on TBS. But that is an exception. Generally speaking shows that swap networks have a short life after the swap.

I’m gonna miss the carpet :/ Really gave the Orville a TNG/Enterprise-D feel to it.

Bridge looks to clinical and blue.
Hoping they dress it up further (with the carpet) when filming

If the show was still on FOX I would check it out. But not going to subscribe to Hulu just for this. The 2nd season was much worse than the first. So nah… I’ll wait for the discs.

Regarding the promo… Dull.

Ênfase uma série com bons arcos e o humor da uma pitada de “quero mais”.

Ready and waiting. Time to re-watch seasons 1 and 2….

Wow, look at this!

People just their giving basic thoughts about the show and not turning it into a silly immature nerd fight over which show is ‘better’? It took four years but nice to see people just acting like adults and realize multiple shows can exist at the same time without it being an issue. Well done. ;)
