Following yesterday’s report that Star Trek: Discovery writer/producer Nicholas Meyer said Michelle Yeoh had been cast in the new series, her casting has been confirmed by two additional sources, and Yeoh herself has commented. Deadline claims that she will play Captain Han Bo of the U.S.S. Shenzhou, a ship key to Discovery‘s first season.

ComingSoon.net is reporting that Michelle Yeoh, star of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon is set to headline Star Trek: Discovery. Her role is as yet unconfirmed but may be the series lead, a female Lieutenant Commander, or possibly the ship’s captain, rumored to be a woman of color. UPDATE: New sources have confirmed Yeoh’s casting with additional details on the role she will play, and Yeoh herself has made a comment.

Star Trek: Discovery Executive Producer and Showrunner Bryan Fuller spoke with IGN regarding the continuing evolution of the design of the U.S.S. Discovery from the teaser that was shown at San Diego Comic Con. Fuller said that the ship has significantly changed as the version featured in the SDCC teaser was not the final design, but also confirmed that the Discovery is based on Ralph McQuarrie’s designs for the Enterprise in the Planet of the Titans aborted film.

Fuller Announces New Series Titled ‘Star Trek Discovery’ Set in Prime Timeline UPDATED

Star Trek Executive Producer Bryan Fuller today announced at San Diego Comic Con that the new Star Trek series set to debut in January 2017 will be called Star Trek Discovery. The series will focus on the adventures of the U.S.S. Discovery, a ship of an unknown class with the registry NCC-1031, set in the Prime Timeline.
