Hey, great podcast as usual. Tawny seems like the greatest. I look forward to seeing her in many more things including hopefully, many more seasons of Lower Decks!

Related to nothing in particular, I was rewatching Star Trek: First Contact since I just got the 4K remaster version. The previous copy I owned was the 2005 2-disk edition (with the grey cover), so I was surprised to see the “new” (to me) audio commentary track with Anthony and Damon Lindelof. It was a fun listen and I can’t believe I didn’t realize it existed before now!

Tony pops up in so many cool Star Trek places…

Wow! Great photo!

:)

CCXP stands for Comic-Con eXPerience, since the organizers couldn’t use the Comic-Con name. It’s the Comic-Con equivalent of the former Star Trek Las Vegas, now 50-Something-Year Mission. :-)

You should come to Brazil for a future CCXP! It is a huge event!

I hope Tony does go one year to cover it! It sounds fun. (And thanks for the info.)

Great interview. Tawny’s just awesome; her being part of the Academy writers’ room single-handedly made my interest in that show skyrocket.

If you’re looking for suggestions on DS9 episodes you could have her on to discuss: 2024 is the year “Past Tense” takes part in, and I recall Tawny saying in another interview it was one of her top DS9 episodes.

(Full disclosure, “Past Tense” is 2nd on my DS9 list, behind “Way of the Warrior”)

This is a great interview. Thank you Laurie. I love Newsome/Mariner. I liked what she said about LDS striking a good balance between Easter eggs/fan service and a good story. That’s precisely why I love this show so much. The stories and world building feel truly like Star Trek and the fan service gives me warm and fuzzy feelings of being in a happy place.

I also like how she tells it like it is with her Hollywood being full of psychopaths comment. Refreshing to hear someone not afraid of speaking her mind, even though the comment was tongue-in-cheek…

I’d like to hear Tawny Newsome tell us the wild thing about Damar.

Great interview Laurie. Tawny comes across as an extremely smart and likable talent. Hopefully much more LDS to come and I’d also like to see more cross-over on SNW.

More Lower Decks pls

Helluva interview. I have confidence that that franchise is in good hands with younger talent, and can take it places not yet explored. I couldn’t help but smile when you both acknowledged the portion of the fan base that’s perpetually persnickety…..and I’ll leave it there. 😁
