Happy 50th anniversary – The Man Trap

Star Trek turns 50 years old this week, in the USA the first episode, “The Man Trap” aired today, September 8, at 8:30PM in 1966. Our friends to north in Canada got to see “The Man Trap” two days earlier on September 6. “The Man Trap” was part of the first batch of finished episodes which also included: “Where No Man Has Gone Before”, “The Corbomite Maneuver”, “Charlie X”, “The Naked Time”, and “Mudd’s Women”. Mission: New York Day Two – The Next Generation, Discovery, Feminist Fandom, and Trek’s Film Stars

The second day of Mission: New York kicked off on the main stage with a reunion of the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast including LeVar Burton, Michael Dorn, Jonathan Frakes, Gates McFadden, and Marina Sirtis. Kelvin Timeline-stars Peter Weller and Bruce Greenwood The most-anticipated panel of the convention was on Star Trek: Discovery with series consulting producer and writer Nicholas Meyer along with writer Kirsten Beyer. Beyer revealed that DSC would be a cross-media production involving television, novels, and comics.



Mission: New York Day One – Nicholas Meyer, DS9, Enterprise

The first day of Mission: New York kicked off on the main stage with a wonderful Deep Space Nine cast reunion. The boys of Enterprise had the crowd bursting with laughter over their antics and stories from the set. However, the highlight of the day was a short question and answer session with Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan writer/director Nicholas Meyer, who shared stories of the film’s production before debuting his director’s cut in 4K UHD.


EDITORIAL: The Needs of the Many Outweigh the Voices of the Few

Vocal minorities tend to lead perception. It’s not necessarily because they are right, but because they are loud, consistent in message and sometimes the only mouthpiece. Lately however, that vox populi has taken its gripes and issues to an entirely new level; one that ridicules, mocks and bullies creators online, as well as posting critical and negative comments to anything and everything covering something that supposedly brings these fans great joy. All of these behaviors can easily be attached to countless fandoms currently occupying the zeitgeist, yet sadly it seems to have taken a firm hold on Star Trek, which is disappointing considering what the franchise represents.






“The World of James Horner” Blu-ray a Fitting Tribute to Star Trek II and III Composer’s 30-Year Career

Grieving over the tragic news one year ago of the untimely death of Star Trek II and III composer James Horner, fans of the musician poured onto social media to celebrate, lament and share stories of the famed composer. One of those fans just happened to be Varèse Sarabande’s Robert Townson, who as luck would have it, was able to share a very special career moment in 2013 with Horner at the Hollywood in Vienna concert. While commiserating with fans online, Townson noticed the one sliver of sunshine for everyone was his posts about the concert itself and time he spent with Horner. Thus was born, Hollywood in Vienna: The World of James Horner project.



Longtime Trek Author and Publicist Terry Erdmann Recognizes His 27-Year-Old Work in “Star Trek Beyond”

Briefly, near the end of Star Trek Beyond, there is a touching final moment that occurs in remembrance of Leonard Nimoy’s 47-year portrayal of Spock. It is a moment that was orchestrated 27 years earlier by the unit publicist on Star Trek V: The Final Frontier, Terry Erdmann.


TrekMovie Presents: A Look At The Kelvin Timeline In Comics, Part One

Cause and effect is a concept as old as time, and the title of a terrific TNG episode to boot. Seven years ago, when Spock Prime attempted to save the galaxy using red matter, the resulting outcome forged the birth of the Kelvin Timeline, which produced three feature films in the new universe and launched new comic book adventures. Part I of TrekMovie’s examination of the Kelvin Timeline comic books focuses on the resulting IDW mini-series that the 2009 film spawned as well as the Official Motion Picture Adaptation.
