[UPDATED] Star Trek Axanar Fan Film Sued by Paramount and CBS Over Copyright Infringement

A potentially multi-million dollar lawsuit, including a request for injunction, has been filed against the fan film Star Trek Axanar, its creator Alec Peters, and up to 20 others working on the production by Star Trek rights holders CBS and Paramount. [UPDATE]: Alec Peters has made an official statement in response to the lawsuit.

STLV 2015 Day Three: William Shatner + Chakotay Makeup + Women of Voyager + Cosplay + More

Today was by far the busiest day of the convention both in terms of guests and stars on the stage. Bill Shatner headlined the day in the way only the Shat can do. Karl Urban, who was supposed to make an appearance today, had a last minute cancellation leaving no one from JJ Trek at this year’s con. Today was also the day to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Star Trek Voyager, with lots of VOY panels.

And, we’re off! It’s officially Day One of the Official Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas! This year’s con started strong with two big panels: Enterprise (feat. Connor Trineer, Dominic Keating, John Billinglsey, Linda Park, and Anthony Montgomery) and Deep Space Nine (feat. Armin Shimerman, James Darren, and Nicole de Boer — plus a surprise cameo by our favorite “mute”). Plus, get a look around the con floor and see today’s best cosplay.

Star Trek Fan and Presidential Hopeful Ted Cruz: “Kirk Is A Republican”

Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz spoke out today on what is surely the only real question we should be asking candidates for the highest office in the United States: Kirk or Picard? In a New York Times interview, the Texas senator picked Kirk as the best captain, stating, “I think it is quite likely that Kirk is a Republican and Picard is a Democrat.”


Leonard Nimoy passes away

TrekMovie is deeply saddened to report that Leonard Nimoy passed away this morning at home in Los Angeles.  He was 83.  His wife, Susan Bay Nimoy, said the cause was end-stage chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.  Leonard announced last year that he had the disease, which he attributed to years of heavy smoking decades ago. He also assisted with the recent publication of Return to Tomorrow, the oral history of Star Trek: The Motion Picture. Lukas says he’s a lifelong Trekker who follows the ongoing dialogue about the franchise, and thought he had something to add about its fundamental appeal—and, among other things, the reason why J.J. Trek is so polarizing.
