Star Trek And Kid Cudi Launching New “Boldly Be” Campaign

As part of Star Trek Day 2023, it was announced today that Star Trek and actor and hip hop artist Kid Cudi are teaming up for the “Boldly Be” campaign this October. The collab will feature a new Trek inspired song by Kid Cudi, interactive games, and a fashion line.

Star Trek x Kid Cudi

Star Trek and Scott Mescudi, better known by his stage name Kid Cudi, have joined forces this collaboration they say “reflects the optimistic and inclusive spirit of adventure, discovery, imagination, and most importantly, hope, at the heart of the cultural phenomenon.”

The collaboration includes Kid Cudi’s “unique lens on music” with an original song inspired by Star Trek. There will also be an interactive gaming component and a “bold fashion collaboration” launching this October. Additional details will be announced at a later date, but here is a teaser video released on Star Trek Day.

Mescudi had this to say in a statement:

I grew up watching ‘Star Trek’ with my dad who is single handedly responsible for turning me into a fan. The most important thing to me is to be as authentic as possible. ‘Star Trek’s’ mission has always been about having a hopeful future and when I was first approached about this project it was the perfect marriage of all the things I believe in – being brave and a hero by doing what’s right and fighting for freedom. I can’t wait to share my love of this incredible franchise with the world.

The “Boldly Be” is inspired by Star Trek’s ethos of IDIC (Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations). StarTrek.com invites fans around the world to celebrate their own selves by sharing their boldest moments and collaborating on stories and visuals that represent Star Trek’s enduring message of hope, authenticity, discovery and more. For more details, follow @StarTrek on social and await more details on how to get involved with “Boldly Be.”

So it’s just a song, a video game, and clothes? Or am I missing something?

I don’t think that you are missing anything.

Yeah, you’re missing that this is also a younger person of color and influence willing to work to promote the franchise to a generation who see it as something for (mostly) old white people.

You make a very good point.

Is anybody likely to get into Trek because this guy makes cool shirts or whatever?

Time will tell…

Boomers go grrrrrrrrrrrrr

Why assume someone is a boomer? I have no idea how old anyone here is, and I doubt you do, either. Also, what’s wrong with someone being a boomer?

Just joking boomer

If you’re talking about me, I’m a millennial. I think I’m one of the younger people here, actually.

idk over or under 33

Under

Oh wow you’re younger than me.

I believe there might be a misunderstanding about the Star Trek community here. Historically, the franchise has broken boundaries when it comes to casting actors and actresses of diverse ethnicities. It has always been an inclusive space that welcomes diversity, both in terms of ethnicity and LGBTQ+ representation. It’s where I found my friends!

Ummm how long have you been watching Star Trek young person? If you care to watch the shows across multiple decades you will see that Star Trek has always been diverse but I guess you will see what you want to see. Sheesh.

I love how many people in the arts are Star Trek fans!

And the sciences, even better.

Oh, but I EXPECT people in the sciences to love Trek! :-)

If you pay them or they have any monetary gain fro it, then yes.

Yeah this is what we asked for. This is from the minds of a bunch of suits who have probably never watched Trek saying

“Hear me out, what if…” and a bunch of plebs clapping in response. So out of touch. Cudi is not really relevant in hip hop the way he was 5+ years ago.

What do they think the outcome of this will be. A bunch of Cudi fans signing up for P+?

Who’s this “we” of which you speak? People who are pissed that the studio doesn’t agree that the salvation of the franchise is to figure out a way to get the ancient Shatner back into action hero shape?

Who are the “we” you’re referring to? You only speak for yourself.

Ah yes, the angry fanboy who thinks he speaks for all of the fandom. Take a seat.

What we want: Hi-Def ReMasters of DS9 and Voyager!!!

A clothing line???

🤦‍♂️

Who are the “we” you’re referring to? You only speak for yourself.

The ‘we’ must be myself and him. I’d rather have Voyager and DS9 in HD than have star trek themed clothes.

In truth, so would I. Star Trek clothing has no appeal to me. But whenever someone says “What we want,” that person is presuming to speak for fandom, which they don’t.

‘We’ being a majority of fandom opinion as gauged by expressions and statements made by fandom in numerous public forums.

I want remastered DS9 as much as anyone, but these are hardly comparable things. It’s not like they had the choice to do one or the other and went with Kid Cudi.

By the way, Cudi helped Bill and Ted save all reality, and now he’s teaming up with Trek. That makes him pretty cool, in my book!

Young minds, fresh ideas. I’m happy to see this collaboration, and wish it the best.

Hey, I just want you to know I made my comment. Is somebody who likes Kid Cudi. But why can’t we have both?

kid cudi is very original dude i like him a lot

Ok. Paramount is desperate.

gatekeeping cringeass behavior, unfortunately that kinna behavior doesnt surprise me

this is fkn wonderful

Can’t they just greenlight Star Trek Legacy? Remaster DS9 or Voy in HD? Remaster TOS in 4K? Give Prodigy a new home?

This is more corporate nonsense. Like S2 of SNW, this has nothing to do with storytelling or art or making the world better or issues we face in society. It’s all about the buzz it creates in social media. It’s clickbait. It’s the studio saying, “hey come check us out, look what we’re doing, make a meme out of this to keep people talking.”

I hope Unite the Trek was a success.

Star Trek Legacy is not something that was ever on the table to be greenlighted.

Legacy seems to be on the cards once the strike ends

Narrator: “It isn’t.” Legacy is something the PICARD cast and fans have pushed for. It’s not something that has ever actually been in discussions.

We heard exactly the same thing about Strange New Worlds. “Paramount isn’t even discussing such a show! It’s only being talked about by fans and the cast!” Oops.

That we know of.

I imagine three has been a lot of chatter (before the strikes) we haven’t been made privy to.

Also I am sure that actors who joined guild strike will be fired after some time. And Paramount won’t rehire them again.

You’re probably right. I don’t actually expect it to happen. It’s wishful thinking.

We can’t really expect news of Legacy until the strike’s over.

Maybe they’re just doing something fun for Star Trek day.

It’s not my version of fun, but maybe I’m being too harsh. It’s weird to me.

All I want is people who can write Star Trek – which is NONE of the current batch of writers for TV or the movies. This is pointless and just showing Star Trek is a cash cow now and the milk has no taste

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Wow, you think none of the current batch of writers across 3 live action and 2 animated shows can write star Trek? it might just be that you are wearing rose colored glasses about older Trek.

Can you do any better?

Kid Cudi is such a cool name! My good buddy Joe Stains is often called ‘Kid Stains’ by friends and family.

He’s a big TOS fan and is a good fellow

Never heard of him, but good luck in their efforts to make Trek relevant to younger audiences.

I though he was the new Doctor Who

We don’t all look alike

in a starfleet uniform???

Ugh. Log your racist ass off and go and educate yourself.

erm….. no, no thank you.
