Armin Shimerman And Terry Farrell Join The ‘Delta Flyers’ Podcast For ‘Star Trek: Deep Space Nine’ Rewatch

The Delta Flyers with the Deep Space Nine space station and wormhole - TrekMovie

Early on the pandemic, Star Trek: Voyager stars Garrett Wang and Robert Duncan McNeill started the Delta Flyers podcast. Each week, the duo watched, recapped, and reviewed an episode of Voyager, making their way through the show chronologically. A few weeks ago, they wrapped things up with the Voyager finale “Endgame,” having rushed to get it all in the proverbial can before the SAG-AFTRA strike started so they wouldn’t leave listeners hanging. Now they’ve announced that the popular podcast will begin a new chapter as they rewatch Star Trek: Deep Space Nine with two stars of that series.

Up next: Deep Space Nine with Terry Farrell and Armin Shimerman

Before reviewing the Voyager finale McNeill and Wang announced (in a video sent to Patreon subscribers) that they finally had a game plan for what they call “chapter two” of the podcast: They’re going to be reviewing Deep Space Nine, joined by their new co-hosts, Terry Farrell and Armin Shimerman. As they did with with Voyager, they’ll bring on a great selection of guests, from series regulars and guest stars to behind-the-scenes pros, with bonus content available to listeners who choose to pay (via Patreon) at various tiers.

More guests coming as they wait out the strike

They can’t start with DS9 until after the SAG-AFTRA strike is over as actors are still prohibited from promoting “struck work,” but they still have a lot of episodes lined up. They posted this note on Patreon:

For September and as long as the SAG strike lasts, we have interviews lined up with Roxann Dawson, Tim Russ, Ethan Phillips, Martha Hackett, and we’ll be adding more as the strike continues. These interviews will focus on them as actors and their personal journey with acting/directing/careers. You’ll get a chance to learn about their professional journey and get to know them as people just a little bit more! And, as soon as the strike is over, we will begin our DS9 watch with Terry Farrell and Armin Shimerman!

wow! I quit on Delta Flyers after a while but should circle back.
Will definitely tune in for DS9 – maybe it’s just Voyager. I’ve not been diligent with MissionLog either. I miss Ken a lot on MissionLog. Norman is ok, but it’s not the same. So between that and just not caring that much about Voyager I’ve been slow rolling on MissionLog and have quite the backlog when it used to be a drop day listen

I quit on them, too. They just seemed to hate all the episodes they were reviewing, and be bitter about their characters. I just got tired of listening to them rag on a show I love. But maybe that has changed as they got later in the show…

I don’t mind honest critic and there is more than enough legitimate gripe to go around with Voyager. I just found Garret to be such a grating dork lol

Their criticism of the Chakotay background stuff was interesting and good, essentially “10 points for effort but minus 10,000 for execution and accuracy and hiring the way wrong person to consult”.

Re: Garret is also kind of where I lean w/ Norman on MissionLog. The conversations between Ken and Jon always seemed so loose and free, but Norm is a little philosophically full of himself and always seems to be reading from a pre-written script, it gets a little tiring to take in large doses. I still really enjoy the effort, just between Voyager *and* that, I can’t binge 8 episodes in a row like I can with the TOS and TNG era of MissionLog

I will take this announcement. A great birthday present. I can’t wait!

I’ve been spending the day watching my favorite Trek episodes with some friends. One of which will be watching some of them for the first time. I can’t wait to see the reactions.

Happy Birthday!

Thank you!

Happy Birthday! Mine just past recently this month too!

Thank you. Happy belated birthday to you then!

Happy birthday!

Thank you!

Happy belated birthday as well my friend! Yeah a great announcement for sure.

Thank you!

Going to be interesting to hear Farrell’s thoughts on season 7.

I listened to Delta Flyers for awhile but stopped. I’m going to go back and catch up. Plus, I just signed up as a LT tier so I’ll be ready for DS9. I love Terry.

I’m totally going to play this in my car during my daily commute

Man! Those cartoon versions of them in the graphic has got my mind stuck on a Trek-themed version of Beavis and Butthead with Tom and Harry! Someone needs to make this.

there’s a Lower Decks joke here somewhere ;)

The 8th Season dropped yesterday; they were talking about what an 8th season of Voyager would have looked like. One thing that would have tamped down a ‘Voyager is home’ celebration would be the long shadow of the Dominion War. Yeah, the Federation (Alliance) won, but the Dominion kicked the s**t out of it in the process. I’d imagine there’d be some issues with survivors’ guilt among the crew, and some open hostility among some in Starfleet that Voyager is being lauded for basically returning from getting lost in space….

Absolutely love the Delta Flyers. I started just a year ago but it was my #1 podcast and finally caught up to the current episodes by season 7. I was actually a bit depressed it was ending but was so happy to hear they were going to review DS9 with Shimerman and Farrell which they announced when they were discussing Endgame. It was smart to get people on the production because they were very thorough about everything dealing with Voyager. And besides other actors, I loved when they also brought in writers and producers like Bryan Fuller and Lisa Klink to discuss specific episodes. I was hoping they got Rick Berman on the show (but he did the Shuttlepod show discussing Enterprise which was great). I appreciate both the show and TV production in general more after hearing what goes into making all these shows.

Just listened to their ‘season 8’ episode today which was a lot of fun and can’t wait to hear all the cast interviews they got lined up. Voyager ended over 20 years ago and I still love hearing and reading everything about it lol.

So excited to listen to behind the scenes with these amazing actors!
