Editorial: President Proposes Bold New Approach to Exploring the Final Frontier

In 2008 Star Trek writer/producer and science advisor Andre Bormanis wrote an editorial here at TrekMovie about the presidential campaign and the future of NASA, advocating the Constellation program. Barack Obama (a Trekkie) went on to win the election and this week his administration announced a major shift in NASA policy, including the cancellation of Constellation. Today Andre is back with his thoughts on the new NASA.

Riding high on her 2009 movies Star Trek and Avatar, Zoe Saldana is white hot these days, so we have a special Saldana edition of CelebWatch. First Look and Excerpts for Star Trek Magazine Klingon/STO Special

The 100-page Issue 24 of the official Star Trek magazine is a "Klingon Special" which has a big focus on the Klingons and the new Star Trek Online Game (featuring Klingons back as the enemy of the Federation). Movie Fan Polling On Star Trek Academy Best Pic Omission – But Orci Says ‘No Snub’

Not long after yesterday’s nominations for the Academy Awards were announced, many in the media started calling the omission of a Best Picture nod for Star Trek a ‘snub’ or a ‘surprise’ (see previous report). Now a couple of polls show many movie fans agree. However, Star Trek exec producer and co-writer Roberto Orci doesn’t agree.

Star Trek Online Launches With Over 1 Million Accounts + New Ground Video + Playable Starfleet Klingons & Ferengi Added To Store

After years of waiting, the massive multiplayer game allowing you to play in a persistent universe of Trek’s 25th century is online, and according to Cryptic they have already logged in over 1 million registered accounts at the official websites. STO is also the top selling PC game Amazon. Cryptic has also added the first two purchasable in game items: playable Starfleet Klingons and Ferengi. Was Star Trek Snubbed By The Academy?

The nominations for the Academy Awards were announced a couple hours ago (see previous report). Although Star Trek picked up four technical nominations, it didn’t get a nod for Best Picture. Although not considered a shoe-in, the film had received a lot of buzz and many are already calling ‘snub’, especially due to one of the films that did make it in. UPDATED: Patrick Stewart Doesn’t Tweet and Isn’t In Mad Max 4

[UPDATED] The rumor over the weekend was that Sir Patrick Stewart may be rejoining his Nemesis pal Tom Hardy for Mad Max 4, but it turns out that it isn’t true. Oh well, Stewart will be appearing in tonight’s Frontline Special "Digital Nation", and you can watch a clip of him below talking technology where he balks at Twitter, but expresses love for his iPhone.

Star Trek Nominated For 4 Academy Awards – Matching Franchise Record

This morning (Feb. 2) the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the nominees for the 82nd annual Academy Awards, and the 2009 Star Trek movie picked up four nominations, matching the record set by Star Trek IV. Although there was a bit of buzz, Star Trek did not pick up a Best Picture nomination. In addition, some Trek vets picked up nods. Details below.
