Writer-director James Kerwin’s Yesterday Was a Lie starring (and produced by) DS9 vet Chase Masterson opens in Los Angeles today. The independent film was extremely well-received on the indie film circuit, picking up several awards along the way. Last night Bill Shatner was on Jimmy Kimmel Live, promoting his show Raw Nerve, but things swung around to discussion of Star Trek. Bill said he thought the Star Trek movie was "wonderful", implying he finally saw it, and revealed he and JJ Abrams recently had lunch. However, he said he didn’t know if he would be in the sequel. JJ Abrams Star Trek continues to build steam in its quest for award season glory. Today the prestigious National Board of Review of Motion Pictures named its top 11 films of the year and Star Trek is on the list. Composer Michael Giacchino has a lot to celebrate as last night he was nominated for four Grammy Awards by The Recording Academy, including one for his Star Trek soundtrack. The other three nominations were for his work on the Disney/Pixar movie Up. This is the first time a Star Trek production has been nominated for a Grammy. See below for details.

The final Star Trek novel from Pocket Books in 2009 takes us into the mirror universe, with David Mack’s "The Sorrows of Empire". Originally a novella in the 2007 "Glass Empires" anthology, Mack has expanded the story of Mirror Spock’s rise to power in the Terran Empire.
