On Monday Star Trek Into Darkness director J.J. Abrams was in New York to promote the movie, appearing on NBC’s Today Show, The Daily Show with John Stewart on Comedy Central and Howard Stern’s Sirius radio show. See below for video and audio clips of all of his appearances.
In January, after five seasons, FOX ran the series finale of Fringe the genre show from the Star Trek team of JJ Abrams, Bryan Burk, Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci. According to JJ Abrams, there is still a chance he could return to the director’s chair for a third Star Trek movie (even though he is set to direct the next Star Wars movie). This revelation and more comes from a new lengthy Playboy interview with Abrams. JJ also points to a young director he has his eye on and talks a bit about William Shatner too. Excerpts below.

On Friday William Shatner’s voice will be heard in the animated feature Escape From Planet Earth. Variety and other Hollywood news sources are reporting today that J.J. Abrams is directing the next Star Wars after all. There aren’t any details other than the fact Disney is close to closing the deal with Abrams. Last month TrekMovie reported that even though he had been approached, JJ Abrams was not interested in directing the new Star Wars movie in development at Disney (who recently acquired LucasFilm). In a new interview Abrams offers more details on why he said no, notably that he feels a loyalty to Star Trek.
