Simon Pegg (Star Trek’s new Scotty) is still out promoting his new film How to Lose Friends and Alienate People and still talking (a bit) about Trek. Pegg tells Conan O’Brien that while he pays tribute to the original Scotty, James Doohan, he doesn’t imitate him. And in that interview and many others, Pegg again shows off his geek cred.

UPDATED: Simon Pegg is out promoting his new movie, How To Lose Friends and Alienate People, and of course he is still talking Scotty. In one new interview he makes it clear that Star Trek is no parody, but in another he has a laugh about the secrecy and even demonstrates his Scotty (well not really). More details and video below.

The upcoming issue of the UK’s SFX has a Star Trek cover story and the fine folks at the magazine have shared with TrekMovie some exclusive excerpts from interviews with Zachary Quinto (the new Spock) and executive producer Bryan Burk, and one item of particular interest is both speaking about the future of the franchise after the new Star Trek movie.
Gene Roddenberry’s son Rod Roddneberry has been working on a documentary about his father and Trek fandom for a few years. Over the summer TrekMovie reported that Roddenberry had hired a new editor (Emmy winner Allan Holzman) who was finally putting it all together and had created a new trailer, which is now online.
Heroes kicked off its third season tonight on NBC. Over the past two seasons the show has featured a number of references to another NBC show, Star Trek. Tonight in the "Countdown to Heroes" special, Zachary Quinto (the new Spock) helped introduced a video segment on the Trek/Heroes homages, see video below.
The 60th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards were held this evening, and no, William Shatner didn’t win. Unlike last weekend at the Creative Arts Emmys, nobody associated with Trek walked away with an Emmy this year. A bit of a slow week in genre movie news but we do have updates on Transformers 2, Green Hornet, a host of Marvel movies, and more including some new pics and vids. For TV news there is a ton of stuff from The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Heroes, Stargate, Lost, and more, including lots of new images and video (including the new Prisoner).
British comedian Ricky Gervais said no to JJ Abrams. The actor, who didn’t become a star until he was 40 with his 2001 BBC comedy hit The Office, stars in Paramount DreamWork’s Ghost Town which opened this weekend, but apparently he has also been turning down a lot of work as well, including a spot in Abrams’ new Star Trek movie.
This weekend the original Spock, Leonard Nimoy, is the ‘not my job guest’ on the NPR quiz show Wait Wait Dont Tell Me, where he joked around about Star Trek and played the game “Your are not that Spock either,” taking questions about the expertise of ‘Dr. Spock,’ and child rearing. Looks like we can add another pretty face to the cast of the new Star Trek movie. In an interview (and photo shoot) with Maxim, 25 year-old actress and former Guess girl model Diora Baird talks about her role an a ‘green girl’ (Orion) in JJ Abrams new movie.
Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman have a lot of things going on right now with their new show Fringe, the new movie Eagle Eye (opening next weekend), the next Transformers movie and a little thing called Trek.
