There’s a few bits of Star Trek-related award news today. First up the original Star Trek series was nominated (again) for a Television Critics Association Award, as was William Shatner. And Bill won an award for his latest audio book, as did Wil Wheaton. And new Star Trek movie star Benedict Cumberbatch picked up another award nomination.
The Star Trek highlight of Phoenix Comicon on Saturday was William Shatner who delighted the packed crowd with stories from his life along with some of his insights into his career path, the nature of fandom, the mythology of Star Trek, how his Star Trek novels are actually autobiographical, and more. Memorial Day Weekend in Phoenix is going to get a lot geekier with Phoenix Comic Con. This year promises to be the biggest one ever for the fan-friendly event, including a slew of Star Trek guests and fan panels. William Shatner will be there along with Star Trek: The Next Generation stars Brent Spiner, Michael Dorn, Marina Sirits, Wil Wheaton and LeVar Burton. On Saturday, the third day of this year’s FedCon, Jonathan Frakes revealed he had been on the set of the new Star Trek movie, William Shatner filled not one but two rooms and talked about JJ Abrams not hiring him, while Gates McFadden told the audience about her heroes and said she hoped to join Wil Wheaon on Big Bang Theory. Last night William Shatner appeared on The Colbert Report to promote his new Broadway show and host Stephen Colbert showed his inner Trekkie by gushing with Bill, including saying that when he was on Star Trek he was "god damn beautiful" and a "golden god." Last night Star Trek’s original Kirk William Shatner opened his new Broadway show "Shatner’s World: We Just Live In It" (which will be going on the road for a US tour next month). Today Priceline released what they are calling the final ad featuring Shatner as "The Negotiator," and they may even be ending their relationship with the actor who helped launch the brand in the 90s. Recently a small Star Trek / Star Wars “feud” erupted online between William Shatner and Carrie Fisher. Now George Takei has entered himself into the feud in an effort to calm to the situation.
