William Shatner NOT In Life Or Death Struggle
The current issue (which came out last Friday) of The National Enquirer has a story titled WILLIAM SHATNER SURGERY TURNS INTO LIFE-OR-DEATH DRAMA which would be pretty big news if it were true. The story states that Mr. Shatner suffered heart complications during hip surgery. After being sent tips to the story, TrekMovie.com checked in at Shatner HQ and was told that Bill was fine, that he has had no surgeries and the whole thing was made up.

New Video Projects From Shatner
William Shatner continues his quest to become king of the Internet with the addition of a couple of new online projects. Firstly a site called VideoJug announced today a new set of interactive videos of The Shat discussing his “candid and personal views on life, Star Trek and the entertainment business.” And if you want to get more personal, LiveAutographs.com is offering the opportunity to get a personalized video of Shatner signing memorabilia.

Star Trek producer/director JJ Abrams called in for an interview with the Howard Stern Show and being that it was Howard Stern, questions ranged from “is your wife hot?” to “did you bang Jennifer Garner?” to “how much money do you make?” to “is Tom Cruise nuts?” But he also took some serious questions about the writers strike, people getting sick watching Cloverfield and, of course, Star Trek (and Shatner). Details and Cover For New Shatner Autobiography
This week details and a cover have been released on a new autobiography from William Shatner, the first Captain James T. Kirk. The book titled "Up Till Now: The Autobiography" (co-authored by David Fisher) promises to be the definite Shatner-ography and will be available in May on both a hardcover and audio CD (presumably narrated by the man himself). Nimoy On Aging and Revitalizing Trek
In a new interview Leonard Nimoy talks about photography, aging and Trek. The 76 year old actor/director/photographer tells Hossli.com that he thinks about death and has even set up a clock that runs backward which tells him how much time he has left. He also feels that the new Star Trek will ‘revitalize’ the Trek franchise.
Takei On Trek’s Diversity
In a new interview with Metro Weekly George Takei (TOS: Sulu) talks in depth about the diversity in Star Trek. Takei said that he he was proud to be part of the production with the first interracial kiss calling it “a real breakthrough.” But Takei also defended the series for not having a gay character saying that it would have pushed the envelope too far. Also in an unrelated bit, Takei revealed a bit about what we may see with John Cho’s Sulu in the new Star Trek.

Nimoy Talks Spocks [UPDATE: and Shatner]
CBS 2 in Los Angeles has put up more video from their interview with Leonard Nimoy, with this one focusing more on Star Trek. Although he acknowledges that he helped shape the character of Spock (and therefore all future Vulcans), the actor gives most of the credit to Gene Roddenberry. Nimoy also revealed that the original plan for Spock was to use red make-up, but it didn’t work well on black and white TVs which were still prevalent in 1966. Nimoy also spoke about coming back for the new Star Trek, revealing a small spoiler.

This weekend an exhibit of Leonard Nimoy’s “Full Body Project” begins at a gallery in Los Angeles. Mr. Nimoy gave an interview to the local CBS affiliate where he talks about the show and his photography. You can see the interview at CBS2.com. Part 2 of the interview (where Mr. Nimoy will talk about the new Star Trek movie) airs tomorrow on CBS 2 in LA during the 5 PM news. Nimoy will appear at a gallery reception on Saturday. IDW Announce 5 New Comic Series + Plan on Movie Tie-In
More TOS & TNG + New Frontier, Mirror Universe & Gary Seven! In 2007 IDW ended a six year drought in Star Trek comic books. Last week IDW announced a new TNG comic series to debut in January and today the company announced an aggressive slate of four additional series to premiere over the following 5 months. These include a TOS ‘Year 4’ series written by D.C. Fontana, a New Frontier series written by Peter David, a Gary Seven ‘Assignment Earth’ series by comic legend John Byrne plus a series set in the mirror universe. There are also plans afoot for an adaptation for the new Star Trek movie later in the year.

In a new video interview with nuts.tv, Marina Sirtis (TNG: Troi) says that her job was not secure in the early days of Star Trek The Next Generation so she decided to become “the convention queen” to build up her fanbase and ensure her job. Shatner In The Movie Saga Still Not Over
Over the last few months there have been a lot of stories regarding whether William Shatner will or will not be in the new Star Trek movie. Periodically a report crops up that claims to have the definitive answer one way or another. The latest is a new report at Moviehole claiming ‘final confirmation’ from co-writer and executive producer Roberto Orci that Shatner will not be in the film. However, it appears they have jumped the gun.

Today the nominees for the 65th Annual Golden Globe Awards were announced as usual there are a few Trek connections. Captain Kirk himself, William Shatner was nominated for Best Supporting Actor in a TV Series for his role on Boston Legal. If he wins it will be his second Golden Globe. In addition, Star Trek Voyager writer/producer Bryan Fuller’s Pushing Daisies was nominated for Best Comedy or Musical TV Series. Fuller created Pushing Daisies and is executive producer; this is his first Globe nomination.

Nana Visitor Headed To Battlestar
Star Trek Deep Space Nine star Nana Visitor (Kira Nerys) will be joining the ragtag fleet of Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica. In an interview with Starburst, Moore revealed that Visitor will have a recurring role as a cancer patient named Emily who meets Laura Roslin (played by Mary McDonnell) while she gets her cancer treatment. Moore states “Nana is going to be terrific for this role, and it’s great to see her again.” Visitor will actually be the second Trek Bajoran to join the Colonial Fleet, following Michelle Forbes (TNG: Ro Laren) who was most recently featured in in the BSG TV movie (and DVD) “Razor.” Read the rest of Moore’s BSG 4th Season preview interview at SciFi Pulse.
