Comic Con 08: Star Trek Takes Half Of Paramount’s Booth + Possible New Image?

TrekMovie has been reporting that the new Star Trek movie will have a ‘presence’ at the Paramount booth at the 2008 Comic Con taking place in San Diego. The con opened to day, revealing the presence takes up half the booth. The ‘under construction’ theme is in full force with girls handing out construction jobs and new promotional items tied into the new Star Trek movie. Plus there is a new Star Trek-related website (with a possible new image).


TrekMovie Guide To Comic Con 2008

On Thursday of this week tens of thousands will descend on San Diego California for the ultimate nerd-gasm that is Comic Con. Although there is no big panel for the new Star Trek film, TrekMovie is still going to report on all the other Trek happenings at the Paramount booth and with the other Trek licensee booths, Trek panels and with the various Trek celebrities who will be there. Creation Vegas 08 Con Shaping Up To Be Huge + TrekMovie Ticket Contest

On August 6th Creation’s official Star Trek convention kicks off at the Las Vegas Hilton for five days of Trek craziness with 15,000 Trek fans being entertained with events and dozens of Trek stars including the Spocks, Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy. JumpCon Series In Serious Doubt – Celebrity Guests Not Planning To Attend [UPDATE: Event Cancelled]

It appears that JumpCon is headed for the same kind of meltdown as FedCon USA, but on an even larger scale. JumpCon promoted itself as a new kind of experience with a line up of over a hundred Sci-Fi stars (including many Trek celebrities) to appear at over a dozen different cities during  the Summer and Fall. However, TrekMovie has learned their first stop (in Boston) this weekend may be cancelled and that future JumpCons are also in serious doubt.


Still No Plans For Paramount Trek Comic Con Panel

In the 10 days since Paramount announced they would not be doing any movie panels (including for Star Trek) at Comic-Con, the world of fandom has been going through the various stages of grief, and apparently some are still in the denial phase. Some websites are even questioning TrekMovie’s recent update on Comic Con. And G4 TV is running a new Comic Con Preview Show which is fueling the conspiracy theories.

News of the September closing of Star Trek: The Experience (and Quark’s Bar and Grill) at the Las Vegas Hilton is sad news for fans who enjoy mixing the reel of Star Trek with the real of restaurants. Quark’s, with its Trek name and themed food, was the biggest Star Trek restaurant ever, but there have been others. Star Trek The Experience Closure Follow-up + CBS Hints At A Future

On Sunday TrekMovie first broke the news that Star Trek The Experience in Las Vegas will close this September. Star Trek The Experience Closing In September [UPDATED]

In May TrekMovie first reported that the future of the Star Trek The Experience at the Hilton Hotel in Las Vegas was in doubt after its contract ended in December. Recently we reported that talks were continuing to the end of this month, but apparently a decision has been made in the last couple of days and the contract will not be renewed. After over 10 years in operation, The Experience will close its doors in early September.


Nichelle Nichols Almost Had ‘Star Trek’ Cameo?

According Nichelle Nichols, the original Uhura, there was talk about her getting a cameo role in the new Star Trek movie. Nichols, who has previously spoken enthusiastically about visiting the movie set and meeting both the new Uhura (Zoe Saldana) and director JJ Abrams, made this new revaluation Saturday at the Supernova Pop Culture Expo in Perth Australia.

John Billingsley – Hero of FedCon USA

Since TrekMovie first reported the abrupt demise of FedCon USA last weekend, there has been much debated and discussed during the postmortem. Although the failure of FedCon USA unfortunate, it is worth highlighting how the actors who showed up, especially Star Trek Enterprise’s John Billingsley (along with his wife Bonita), went above and beyond to make the best of a bad situation. The small town of Vulcan, Alberta, Canada (the same one that is lobbying to get the Star Trek premiere in 2009) is holding its 15th annual Star Trek convention this weekend, and this time there is a special Roddenberry tribute, and a special Roddenberry guest. Future of ‘Star Trek: The Experience’ In Doubt

Since opening in early 1998, Star Trek The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton has been the premiere live Star Trek attraction in the world. With its Trek-themed restaurant, museum, shops and rides, it plays hosts to thousands of tourists and Trekkies every year. However, the current contract is up and it looks like 2008 may be the last year for Star Trek The Experience.




FedCon: TNG Stars Hit Germany + Burton Hopes For TNG Movie

FedCon, Europe’s biggest Star Trek and Sci Fi convention took place over the last weekend in Bonn, Germany and over 5000 EuroFans came out to see the sci-fi stars. Among the many guests were TNG stars Brent Spiner, LeVar Burton, Marina Sirtis and John de Lancie. Of particular interest were comments from Burton about hopes for another TNG move.


Con Report: Quinto, Nichols and Visitor At Starfest 08

Zachary Quinto (the new Spock) and Nichelle Nichols (the original Uhura) took a trip to StarFest over the weekend to give Colorado fans a Trek treat. Quinto stuck with his code of silence but impressed the crowd with his respect for the role of Spock. And Nichols provided more details on her visit to the new Star Trek set. Nana Visitor also attended and and gave the ‘Niners’ and singing treat.


Grand Slam XVI: Two Spocks Rock The House

The ultimate event of the Grand Slam Sci-Fi Summit was the appearances  of the two Spocks, Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy. The pair each had a solo portion followed by a joint appearance (in the same way they often do it when Shatner and Nimoy appear at cons). Of course the actors were not there to reveal big details about the ultra-secret Trek feature film, but their enthusiasm and chemistry was undeniable. Highlights + pics below.


Grand Slam XVI: Spiner On Dreamland, Typecasting, Nemesis + Interview

Brent Spiner, Star Trek The Next Generations’ Data, took the stage Saturday at Creation’s Sci-Fi Grand Slam and entertained the large crowd with jokes and stories from his career in and out of Trek. New York Con Reports, Pictures and Video [UPDATED]

Creation Entertainment held their Official Star Trek convention in New Jersey this weekend and many Trek stars were on hand to entertain the fans (primarily from TNG, DS9 and Enterprise).
