Believe it or not, but the speculation and buzz for Star Trek Into Darkness we see in the US some other countries is not universal. In some markets the uber-secret approach to promoting the film just doesn’t work. An example is Japan where in an interview found by TrekMovie’s Tokyo correspondent, producer/director JJ Abrams actually provided some details about the film’s plot and themes. Cumberbatch: Abrams Pitched Into Darkness Villain As Combo Of Hannibal Lector, ‘Shining’ Jack & Joker

The hottest topic around Trek these days has been about the villain (and his plan) in Star Trek Into Darkness. A newly released video of Benedict Cumberbatch from the Japanese press event offers some more tidbits, including how JJ Abrams described the role villain role before his audition. Cumberbatch also says that even though he is a bad guy, the villain has a three dimensional motivation and he may even be a sympathetic character.


Bad Robot Tweets New Star Trek Into Darkness Image + Did TrekMovie Get Cory Booker A Trek Cameo?

JJ Abrams’ Bad Robot production company is new to Twitter, but they are already giving Trek fans something to talk about. Today the official Bad Robot Twitter account sent out an image from the set of Star Trek Into Darkness. Also @bad_robot seems to have picked up on some tweets from @trekmovie about how the mayor of Newark, NJ wants to get into the next Star Trek. More details below.


Russian Fans Revolt Over Title Translation of Star Trek Into Darkness – Distributor Responds

Two weeks ago TrekMovie reported that in Russia the local distributor chose an alternative title for Star Trek Into Darkness. The title (translated as "Star Trek: Vengeance") was one of those tested for the film but lost out to "Into Darkness" everywhere but Russia. Since the announcement some Trek fans in Russia have tried to get the decision changed and yesterday they even got a meeting with the Russian distributor.
