On Friday we previewed IDWs TNG Ghosts #4, but this week IDW is also kicking off its six-issue 2009 Star Trek movie adaptation. We now have the preview of that, and as you will see, the adaptation will include deleted scenes from the movie (starting on page 1). Check it out below.
Species 8472 is back. Now called the ‘Undine’, the Borg butt-kicking tripods from from fluidic space have stepped from Star Trek: Voyager to the Star Trek Online massive multiplayer game. Atari have provided us with video, images and intel reports below.

The annual big official Star Trek convention in Las Vegas is already shaping up to be a good one. Big Trek stars like William Shatner, Jeri Ryan, Jonathan Frakes, and many more are already lined up for the four day event in August. And the official Star Trek Magazine has just launched a contest where you can get gold tickets .
On Monday TrekMovie reported on new Diamond Select Star Trek Toys being shown at Toy Fair 2010 in New York this week. The original report mentioned, but didn’t show the four new MEGO style retro cloth figures. Images for those are now available, check them out below.

The world of Star Trek has taken another step into the digital future. Today the ad-supported streaming site Hulu added their first Star Trek movie, Star Trek Generations. Anyone in the US can watch it for free and you can even embed it on your own site (as we have done below).

Today in London, Namco Bandai organized a world record attempt at the largest gathering of people in Star Trek costumes. The stunt was done to promote Star Trek Online in Europe and according to the people at Guinness, they set the record. TrekMovie has a full set of pictures from the event below.

The new massive multiplayer game Star Trek Online is only 10 days old, and Crytpic have just announced the first big addition of new content for the game, and it is all about The Borg. New episodes are being added to the game for higher level players to take on the collective. We have details, concept art, screenshots, video and ‘intel reports’ below.
For the last decade or so, one of the most anticipated Trek products each year is the Ships of the Line calendar, featuring work from veteran Trek artists, wrangled by Doug Drexler. Last week Doug put up a sneak peak of a special bonus centerfold for this year’s calendar, featuring a tech manual style -look at a couple of the ships in the calendar including a ‘refit’ of the NX-01 from Enterprise, which bridges the gap towards a TOS style.

The release week for Star Trek Online continues to be exciting. Today there is a new interview with Zachary Quinto talking about the game and more, plus Cryptic says that they don’t need to take on World of Warcraft to succeed with STO. All that and more in our latest STO update.
Star Trek Online got off to a big start yesterday (see previous article) and already Cryptic is talking about having to expand their server capacity to deal with the load. After years of waiting, the massive multiplayer game allowing you to play in a persistent universe of Trek’s 25th century is online, and according to Cryptic they have already logged in over 1 million registered accounts at the official websites. STO is also the top selling PC game Amazon. Cryptic has also added the first two purchasable in game items: playable Starfleet Klingons and Ferengi. Zachary Quinto caused a bit of a tempest earlier in the week with his comments in one interview about taking a break from Star Trek. In some new interviews promoting Star Trek Online, the actor goes into more detail on his plans for the near future, and how he plans to return to Trek after doing some of his own projects. Star Trek Online has its official launch on Tuesday February 2nd, however the ‘head start’ for the game went live just minutes ago. When you first launch Star Trek Online you will be treated to an introduction to game narrated by Leonard Nimoy which explains some of the back-story and ties it into the 2009 Star Trek movie. This intro was one of the last elements of the game added to the beta over last weekend, and so a few fans captured it and put it online. Check it out below.
Now the the beta test for Star Trek Online is over (see earlier report) the game is preparing for its official launch next Tuesday (and ‘head start’ this Friday). Today Cryptic posted a new ‘state of the game’, including comments dealing with bugs, some details on new content, and hints for for the first big update of the game. One of the cool features of the new Star Trek Online MMORPG is the voice of Zachary Quinto (Spock in 2009’s Star Trek), who plays the role of an EMH who guides you through the STO tutorial when you first start in the game. However, in a new interview the actor says he is now going to take some time off from Star Trek.
The extended open beta for Star Trek Online ended Tuesday, but instead of just shutting it down, Cryptic made an event out of it. Early in the day they made an announcement of an end of beta event, then in the final moments for players found themselves facing a massive invasion of the Federation by the Klingons, and then the Borg.
