Trekkies in Germany and Tampa Beat Star Trek Costumed Fans Record

On May 1 Trekkies on two continents set out to break the world record for a gathering of fans in Star Trek costumes. The gatherings in Tampa, Florida and Bonn, Germany both succeeded in beating the record set in London earlier this year. But it was the group at the FedCon XIX Convention that wound up with what (pending certification) will be the new world record.  



Ron Moore Inks New TV Development Deal With Sony

Recently Brannon Braga, the man with the most Star Trek writing credits, inked a big TV development deal with Fox and soon signed on as showrunner for Steven Spielberg’s time-travel dinosaur series. Now comes news that the man with the 2nd most writing credits, Ron Moore, has also got a new TV deal, this time with Sony, which will hopefully result in even more new sci-fi TV. Details below. 


Update on Star Trek: Final Frontier – The New Star Trek Animated Series That Never Was

Back in December 2006 TrekMovie posted a story about a possible web animated series being developed byDavid Rossi, Doug Mirabello and José Muñoz. Later called "Star Trek: Final Frontier" the project essentially died with the 2007 layoffs at StarTrek.com. Now in a new interview and on their new website, Rossi, Munoz and Mirabello give out all the details on this Trek that never was.

Next Batman Film Coming July 20th 2012 – 3 Weekends After Star Trek Sequel

The 2005 film  Batman Begins, was often held up as a model for how the 2009 Star Trek film could successfully bring back a franchise. And in 2012 it looks like the new crew of the Enterprise will be taking the caped crusader head on as Warner Brothers just announced they will release their next Batman film three weeks after the next Star Trek film.

This weekend there are conventions on two continents full of Star trek celebs, and there will be attempts to set a new record of costumed fans at both! The Vulcan convention in Tampa, Florida and the FedCon on Bonn, Germany both kick off today. And you don’t need to attend the cons to participate in either record attempt.

CBS Experimenting With Converting Star Trek TV Series To 3-D – Moonves Not Convinced There Is A Market

The next big thing for television technology is supposed to be 3-D TV. So far content is scarce as studios and broadcasters are just starting to plan out their 3-D TV strategies. And in the case of CBS it appears that part of their testing of the technology has been with classic Star Trek, but the head of CBS isn’t too impressed.

In June Julien’s Auctions will be holding an auction of items from the estate of Gene and Majel Roddenberry, from William Shatner and from JJ Abrams & Paramount. The lots, on auction to benefit charity, will range from personal items from Roddenberry’s office, to costumes from the 2009 Star Trek movie, to William Shatner’s motorcycle.
