New reports coming out of Europe are talking about a new Paramount Pictures theme park coming to Spain in 2015, including a high-tech Star Trek-themed attraction. TrekMovie has confirmed that the project is in development, but that financing is details are still being worked out. More below.
Next week the American Cinematheque is presenting a special Star Trek series, showing the first six Trek films over four days in Hollywood. Each screening will include a Q&A, with George Takei, Walter Koenig, Nick Meyer and members of the TMP effects team. Star Trek The Experience at the Las Vegas Hilton closed its doors in September 2008 and earlier this year much of the attraction was auctioned off by CBS, but one piece remains. The original sign for ST: The Experience is still up at the Hilton, and some former Experience cast members are trying to preserve it. See the local news report below.
After its current installation in Valencia, Spain wraps up Star Trek: The Exhibition will continue its tour through Europe and head to Germany. The travelling exhibit of props, costumes and replicas will open in Potsdam near Berlin in May 2011. More details and links below.

Earlier this year Star Trek’s Leonard Nimoy said 2010 would be his final year for conventions, but Creation has just announced that Mr. Nimoy is planning to attend their San Francisco con next March. In addition, Creation has a total of nine cons lined up for the next year, celebrating Star Trek’s 45th anniversary.
In January Star Trek: The Exhibition, the traveling exhibit of Star Trek props and replicas, heads east to the Louisville Science Center in Kentucky. Tickets went on sale today, more details and links below.

The weekend of October 22-24, Creation Entertainment held an Official Star Trek Convention in Rosemont (near Chicago), Illinois. I was there to speak and to enjoy the festivities, and so I thought I would share my impressions of the weekend. We also have a photo slideshow from the event.

The discussion covered his approach to the first Star Trek, the Klingon music that didn’t make it into the film, possible ideas for the sequel and more. One of the highlights of the Trek Trak at Dragon*Con is the annual “Miss Star Trek Universe” Pageant. The contest of Trek beauties was held this year on Sunday, hosted by Star Trek Voyager’s Garret Wang (who was the host of the Trek Trak). The STAR TREK Simply Spectacular Saturdays Summer Series at the Royal Theater in West LA comes to an end tonight with the JJ Abrams’ 2009 Star Trek movie. And the special guest for the night will be Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino.
