JJ Abrams Star Trek movie comes out on Blu-ray and DVD on November 17th. In July Paramount released the full details on the releases and around Comic Con they released a teaser trailer with some mock up box art, but today they released the final box art for the three sets. The last bit of details on the Fall Star Trek home video titles has been revealed with the full press release for Star Trek Season Two on Blu-ray. The set will have some very interesting bits, including HD versions of TAS and DS9 ‘Tribble’ episodes. Full details below.
This Fall is going to be big for Star Trek on home video. We had announced some box art previously, but we now have art for the whole collection, including and exclusive look at the TOS Season 2 on Blu-ray set. This weekend Star Trek’s first pilot "The Cage" will be the final new episode to air in syndication for the remastered Star Trek (check local listings). Also this week CBS Home Entertainment released Season One of the remastered Star Trek on Blu-ray. Back in September 2006 CBS commemorated the 40th Anniversary of Star Trek by going back to the original film and digitally remastering the series for the HD era, cleaning up the images and adding new CGI special effects. Previous HD-DVD & DVD releases were available with only the new. But now thanks to the benefits of Blu-ray, fans have a choice (original or CGI), and can see Trek in 1080p.
Just this month William Shatner’s 2002 feature film Groom Lake on has been re-released on DVD this March. First shown in the early 2000s on the Sci-Fi Channel, the film is a science fiction tale written, produced, and directed by William Shatner (who also stars in the movie).
