Paramount First To Pass $1 Bil. in 2009 – Studio Chief ‘Excited’ For Future Trek (& Transformers)

Just like last year, Paramount Pictures is again the first studio to pass the $1 Billion mark in domestic ticket sales, and over half of that is due to two films, Star Trek, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Paramount has released a statement about the event, which cites both films as well as acknowledging how they will play into the future of the studio.   






New BD Live Video Content Coming For Star Trek Season One Blu-ray Set

If you have the recently released Star Trek Season One Blu-ray set, then you actually have more content headed your way via BD Live (an optional part of Blu-ray discs that allows for extra content and interactive features to be downloaded or streamed over a high-speed Internet connection). Beginning this week CBS will be posting brand new video bonus material into the Star Trek Season One Portal, available exclusively to those with the Season One Set.

Today is the 43rd birthday of Star Trek producer/director Jeffrey Jacob ‘JJ’ Abrams. The man behind Lost, Alias, Felicity, Fringe, MI3, Cloverfield and much more joined the Star Trek universe 3 years ago, and he was a welcome addition to the family. So happy birthday JJ, and many more.

President Obama Flashes Vulcan Salute (Twice) At Correspondent Dinner – Is Trek Cool Again?

Last night was the annual Radio and TV Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington DC. Traditionally it is a light-hearted evening attended by the current President with comic entertainment. As noted in yesterday’s ‘ShatWatch’, William Shatner was a guest on last night’s Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien. Bill was there to promote his latest projects and was his usual avuncular self. There was no talk of the new Star Trek movie, but Bill did recall a Trek related story and then there was a bit of an incident when he gave Conan a couple of different ‘salutes’. Star Trek Shows Up At Country Music Awards

As the number one movie in America, Star Trek seems to be working its way into all demographics. It showed up at the MTV Movie Awards, The Kids Choice Awards, and was nominated at the Teen Choice Awards. And last night Star Trek worked its way into the Country Music Television (CMT) Awards.
